When I navigate to the Delete Profile page, I'm automatically added as a member of the community if I haven't already joined.

This situation arose when I clicked on the link in Glorfindel's comment on this question.

Is this intended behavior, or is it a bug?

After clicking on the link above, I automatically joined Mythology & Folklore, and got the 100 association reputation.

It doesn't just happen to that subpage - it happens to any URL to any page in the user settings that contains current in it. Commented Oct 3 at 6:02

  • Did anybody else just get added to a community after reading this post and navigating away? I was just added to Programming Language Design, and Implementation. Commented Oct 3 at 10:55

Honestly, SE Inc is just using whatever dark pattern they can come up with to keep user numbers artificially high. This here is especially ironic, but it's really just part of a larger trend. The only option to leave is to leave the network. Commented Oct 3 at 10:59

@ouflak if you visited the sandbox, there is a post that leverages this bug to force you into joining PLDI. Commented Oct 3 at 11:36

@ouflak it's this post which I de-fanged. Now simply visiting the sandbox where the answer is visible doesn't automatically create an account. Going to the answer's revision history will still trigger the account creation. Commented Oct 3 at 11:50

FYI, a few days ago, I contacted SE to report this security vulnerability. Commented Oct 9 at 21:37
