This guide is a simplified overview of all the changes in Java Edition 1.1, which assumes at least some familiarity with the Adventure Update: Part II (Java Edition 1.0.x releases).

  • The collision box on fence gates now matches that of fences.
  • Fence gates can now be opened and closed with redstone.

Melons and pumpkins Can now grow onto dirt instead of only farmland.

Spawn egg Creative mode inventory only. Used to spawn a specified mob. There are 20 spawn eggs available, one for each mob except the ender dragon, the giant and the snow golem.

Music disc
  • Music discs can now drop from creepers killed by skeletons.
  • The "Blocks", "Chirp", "Far", "Mall", "Mellohi", "Stal", "Strad", and "Ward" music discs are now legitimately obtainable. The "11" music disc remains unobtainable until 1.4.4.
