This post is intended as a general Community Badge signpost: both an FAQ, and a collection of all existing Community Badges.

  • What is a Community Badge? While most badges are standardized across all sites and automatically awarded by the system, Community Badges are site-specific and are manually awarded by moderators.
  • How are Community Badges created? By request! Post a new meta question tagged , provide the badge details and an argument for why the badge would be useful, then wait and see whether the community approves. If there's significant support, flag for a moderator to add . Example meta post.
  • How do I get a Community Badge? By fulfilling its requirements. See below for a full list of badges. Please wait at least a week as this process requires manual moderator intervention. If you believe you are missing a deserved badge, please flag a post of yours or ping a moderator in chat.

Seasonal Setter

Meta post

Bronze badge: Post a seasonally themed puzzle as part of a community event (e.g. Puzzling Advent Calendar)

Post at least one puzzle as part of a year's Puzzling Advent Calendar (or separate seasonal event). This badge is awardable multiple times, but only once a year (i.e. if you post one puzzle in 2023 and one in 2024, then you get two badges, but if you post two in 2024, you get one badge)

This badge should normally be awarded the day the corresponding puzzle is posted.

Quartermaster

Meta post

Silver badge: Have a puzzle voted as the best puzzle of the quarter by the community as part of the best-of series

The community runs an automatic quarterly vote - called the best-of series, in which people can submit puzzles which they think stood out. The community then votes on which puzzle was 'best' that quarter. The highest voted puzzle at the end of the quarter would receive the badge. This badge is awardable multiple times. Normally only one is awarded per quarter. (Multiple could be awarded per quarter if the vote ends in a tie.)

This badge is awarded once the corresponding post slips off of Hot Meta Posts (~2 weeks). Best-of-year posts (example) don't count for this badge. Note that during the February 2026 backfill, the current post scores were used instead of checking what each score was at the time, for simplicity.
