On 30 May 2025, our Rubio received a Marshal badge which can only be awarded to non-moderators. Without speculating on why he's no longer a mod (unless he wants to share anything, and assuming it wasn't because he's now too busy as US secretary of state), let's thank him for everything he did as a moderator, from 2017 up to 2025.

Eight years is a heck of a long time on the internet, and a lot of changes took place on the Stack Exchange network since 2017, which were bravely weathered by Rubio and the rest of our mod team. At the same time, as the quotes and links on his profile show, Rubio always (at least during his more active period; none of us have been around as much in recenter years) took time to interact with the community, and became a sufficiently well-loved figure to have multiple memes circulating about him.

Happy rubiotirement!

Rubio, best wishes with whatever you're doing now rather than moderating us bunch of creative loonies!

$\begingroup$ According to Gareth (a current mod), "Rubio has been de-diamonded for inactivity" - of course that just kicks the can down the road to why he was inactive, but it does mean that he didn't actively (hah) resign. $\endgroup$ Commented Jul 26, 2025 at 4:12

  • $\begingroup$ @DmitryKamenetsky In his profile description, he explicitly states that he neither confirms nor denies... Personally I think it is him. The dog in the picture, that is. I don't think he's Marco Rubio, I find that to be unlikely. $\endgroup$ Commented Aug 3, 2025 at 16:33
