A few times a day, my Plantronics Poly C5200 headset goes silent and the mic stops working. If I unplug it and plug it in again, it works again.

This has been happening for a couple of years. No soltuions from Plantronics.

Finally fixed this by having Copilot analyse USB/Services/Audio Endpoint states in a working and non-working state.

Based on this and some advice from Gemini, I found that this worked and has been stable a few days.

  • System > Sound > More Sound Settings
  • In both record and playback tabs, find the Plantronics device
    • Properties > Advanced
    • Uncheck "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device"

This may be the first time I've heard of Copilot AI coming up with an answer a human might not have found. Since you've tested the answer and not copied from AI, I recommend this answer be retained, despite being AI-derived. Commented 2 days ago

I did a web search (duckduckgo) for "windows headset goes silent randomly" and the top link included the specific advice the AI gave. The AI did nothing special. Commented 13 hours ago
