Hi I am a Pakistani passport holder.

My passport is expiring in 2 weeks and I have to urgently go to Pakistan (from jfk) for an urgent family matter.

I do not have time to renew my passport.

I know Pakistan cannot refuse me entry as long as my passport is valid.

My question is for AUH. I will only transit for 3 hours or so at the airport before catching my flight to Pakistan. I am not entering UAE.

Will my expiring passport give me issues at AUH?

Shouldn't you worry about your return to the US more? Commented Jul 25 at 11:18
  • @8192K: Perhaps they expect to stay in Pakistan long enough to renew the passport before they return. Or perhaps they're not planning to return to the US at all. Might as well focus on the question at hand. Commented Jul 25 at 23:01

Passport validity is a criteria for obtaining any kind of UAE visa. In principle, in the UAE you do not need a transit visa if you plan on staying airside for up to 24 hours. Keep in mind that you can only remain airside if you have booked the itinerary on a single ticket.

With this in mind, the assumption is that your passport validity should not matter when remaining airside during a layover in the UAE. Unfortunately, the internet does not seem to provide a consensus on this matter, mostly because the people who are in this situation usually rush to get an emergency passport renewal, in order to avoid risking being blocked from flying.

The best thing you can do is get in touch with your airline and ask them. As airlines may have their own passport validity requirements that may be more or less stringent than those of the destination country. For example, Etihad says that, if you are flying home, passport validity is dictated by the destination country. Therefore, it is up to you to check the requirements.
