I have a Generalplus Technology Inc. GENERAL WEBCAM attached to my laptop (Dell precision 7770 running openSUSE Leap 15.6). I last successfully used the camera on Sunday October 12th 2025 with Google Meet. The camera is still connected because lsusb can see it:

Now Google Meet can't see the camera, and Kamoso can't see it either. Also neither of them can see the laptop's built-in camera. Google Meet runs in my browser (Firefox) and has permission to use the camera. Kamoso runs directly as a Plasma app, so it isn't affected by Firefox permissions.

Why dosn't either camera work?

Could it be some software security setting that has somehow got set, and if so how do I unset it?

Could it be a bug in the new kernel release 6.4.0-150600.23.73-default (64-bit) which I think got installed since I last used the camera?

Could it be something else, and if so what?

It was the new kernel release.

The camera works with 6.4.0-150600.23.70-default (64-bit).

6.4.0 is not a new kernel; in fact, the 6.4 kernel line is end-of-life since 13. September 2023. You might want to generally update your operating system? Leap 16.0 is out! Commented Oct 16 at 21:41
