Through VOICES of Black Women (VOICES), funding is helping community organizations create spaces where trust leads to action. In Philadelphia, the Byrd Cancer Education and Advocacy Foundation used grant support to build a multi-layered outreach approach grounded in connection. Through programs like Sistas & Stories and Picture This, they created welcoming spaces for Black women to share experiences, ask questions, and learn together. These efforts are driving meaningful impact. At a Sistas & Stories luncheon, women connected over shared experiences navigating healthcare, turning a room of strangers into a supportive community. At another event, a participant enrolled after reflecting on the importance of representation in research. These moments show that when women feel seen and supported, participation follows. This is the impact of VOICES. It equips organizations to build trust and advance representation in research. Learn more: https://voices.cancer.org/

As a Post-Baccalaureate Fellow with the American Cancer Society Center for Innovation in Cancer Research Training (CICRT), Richard draws inspiration from the values instilled in him by his parents, who taught him the importance of hard work, perseverance, and commitment. Those lessons continue to influence his approach to research today, where long hours, curiosity, and determination are essential to advancing scientific progress. At the American Cancer Society, we're proud to support emerging researchers like Richard as they develop the skills and experience needed to help drive the next generation of cancer discoveries. At the TIME Health Leadership Forum, Shane Jacobson shared how the American Cancer Society is turning bold leadership into progress against cancer. Since 1946, ACS has invested $5.4 billion in research and funded 54 researchers who went on to receive Nobel Prizes, making ACS the largest nongovernmental funder of cancer research in the U.S. Through patient support, advocacy, research and innovation, ACS is moving us closer to an end to cancer as we know it. Behind every person receiving CAR T-cell therapy is a network of people who help make treatment possible. This includes spouses, family members, friends and community members who navigate the demands of caregiving alongside their loved ones. At the American Cancer Society, we know that caregivers need support, too. That’s why we’re proud to partner with Kite Pharma on a multi-year collaboration focused on addressing the unique needs of CAR T caregivers. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e76dpUka

📣 Just published: The latest Annual Report to the Nation on the Status of Cancer. This year’s report reveals significant progress against lung cancer over the past two decades. Reduced cigarette smoking among adults and secondhand exposure, increased lung cancer screening among those at higher risk, and sustained tobacco control are critical to reducing lung cancer deaths. There is still work that needs to be done. Lung cancer remains the second most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer death in the United States. 📄 Read the full report in Cancer, the interdisciplinary international journal of the American Cancer Society: https://lnkd.in/e4jyxVk9 The Annual Report to the Nation on the Status of Cancer is a collaborative effort among the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Cancer Institute (NCI), American Cancer Society, and North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR, Inc.), providing annual updates on cancer occurrence and mortality in the U.S. Authors: S. For Dr. Anthonise Louis Fields Ph.D, volunteering with the American Cancer Society is deeply personal. After losing her father to prostate cancer, she understands firsthand the impact cancer can have on a family. For more than a decade, Dr. Fields has turned that personal experience into purpose. She is especially passionate about the VOICES of Black Women Study and its potential to ensure Black women’s experiences and voices are represented in cancer research. Through this work, she hopes to help bridge gaps in cancer education and access to care, reduce preventable cancer deaths, and ultimately help more people survive and thrive. Because her reason for volunteering may be personal, but creating a future where everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer is something we can all be part of. 💙
