I am a transformative leader in the database industry, with expertise in every area – from OLTP to Analytics, and now in AI; an extensive pedigree of innovation with over 100 patents, pioneering breakthroughs across databases, analytics and AI for over 25 years. Many of those innovations have become foundational data technologies across the industry. <br><br>I co-created Exadata, the product to pioneer disaggregated smart storage; created the Hybrid Columnar format, the predecessor of ORC and Parquet. My early work as an engineer also set the standard in database recovery, time travel queries, and core transaction & consistency protocol that underlie Oracle RAC shared-disk clusters.<br><br>At Google, I am responsible for building our next generation Agentic AI-native databases. I lead research and engineering collaborations across Google Research, Google Deepmind and Google Cloud. In Cloud, I am also responsible for a portfolio of large scale database services such as Cloud SQL; several of which, including AlloyDB, led through their inception.<br><br>I am deeply passionate about scaling from 0 to Billion+ dollars, with a proven track record of accomplishing this feat for multiple businesses throughout his career. I love setting an ambitious vision that inspires high-performing teams to chart path-breaking courses. By giving teams the agency to innovate and thrive and the support to take risks and grow, I like an engineering culture deeply rooted in customer-centricity to turn foundational technology into market-leading enterprise products.<br><br>I started my career as an engineer building distributed transaction processing at Oracle. I hold an MS in CS (with an LOA from the Ph.D. program!) from Stanford University and B.Tech. in CSE from IIT Bombay with the President of India Gold Medal.

FinOps as Code gets a functionality bump today: we're expanding the Vantage docs MCP to not only provide information about Vantage features...but it now also has context about the Vantage Terraform provider and help you write and troubleshoot Terraform configurations...and it's awesome. Below is a clip of this in action with Anthropic - when writing Terraform and hitting an issue, you can just ask Claude to resolve it. Claude leverages the Vantage Docs MCP as well as additional context of everything provided by the Vantage Terraform provider and will resolve and give you the templates accordingly. I'm always authentically stunned when I hear from customers moving over from other vendors that they're required to do everything manually via ClickOps on those platforms. This set of functionality will set you free...and honestly seems like table-stakes heading into 2026. Full blog post with all the details is in the comments.

#Kubernetes offers agility and scale, but many overlook the risk of security debt. Rancher’s CVEs exposed plaintext secrets inside Kubernetes objects, leading to urgent audits, token rotation, and operational disruption. Fixing it wasn’t enough. It forced teams to rethink their Kubernetes strategy. #MKE 4k and #k0s take a different path with zero-trust architecture and security built in from the start. Read the blog to see why platforms with security and automation at the core are shaping the future of Kubernetes. Read now! https://buff.ly/fnCz0h2

Two of AWS’ Sr. Principal Engineers, Nicholas Matsakis and Marc Bowes, take us inside the development of Aurora DSQL in a fascinating new blog. The post shows how the team scaled write operations without two-phase commit, overcame garbage collection hurdles, and ultimately embraced Rust for both data and control planes. What I find particularly interesting is how the team's journey with Rust evolved. They started cautiously, using it for a single component, and ended up rewriting almost everything in Rust. It's a reminder that sometimes the hard choices - like adopting a new language - can unlock tremendous value. The full post is well worth your time. It's not just about database internals, but also about team dynamics, a culture of learning (and questioning established approaches), and making difficult architectural decisions. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/eMhxBu9e Now, go build!

"Should we keep this data or stay under budget?" is not a question observability teams should have to ask. But here we are. We wrote about how observability costs spiraled out of control - and more importantly, how columnar storage + OpenTelemetry might actually fix it. Spoiler: ClickHouse wasn't built specifically for observability, but turns out it's kind of perfect for it. Fast aggregations, high compression, handles high-cardinality data like a champ, and doesn't force you to scatter your logs, metrics, and traces across three different systems. https://lnkd.in/g87k5sYm
