Don Vu shared thisSuper excited to share that I joined JPMorganChase as Head of Applied AI, Payments and Global Banking. A few things that have stood out during my first couple of months: - Incredible Scale: The scale of JPMC Payments and Global Banking is hard to comprehend. Payments processes $10T+ a day, which is equivalent to the world's GDP every couple of weeks. Global Banking operates in 45+ countries with over $44T assets under custody. It's a massive surface area for impact and full of opportunity. - A proven AI foundation: Having been here for a couple of months it's clear why JPMC has been named #1 in Banking in the Evident AI Index 4 years in a row. Over a decade of heavy AI and technology investment, the company's intentional push in recent years, and the tone set from the top have come together to build an incredible foundation. - A results-driven culture focused on impact: Although the firm is a global leader across multiple businesses and there has been a lot of progress with AI and transformation, no one is satisfied and there are endless opportunities and interesting problems to solve. It's clear that we are way past AI adoption and the focus continues to be on driving significant business impact and change. If you're looking for a new adventure, we're hiring -- particularly across Engineering, AI, Data Science and Product. Excited for what's ahead...

Don Vu shared thisThe New Work Foundation was co-founded by Clara Shih, Nick Mehta and Samantha Wen with Andrew Yang as Founding Advisor to help new grads and early career professionals navigate AI workforce disruption. The data is stark, with new grad unemployment at a ~40 year high, but the personal stories are even more gut-wrenching. So many early career professionals have applied to 100s of job openings with no traction, compounding self-doubt, and ongoing uncertainty. I hear about it all the time from students, family and friends, and I’m guessing you have too. I’m grateful to be one of many volunteer professionals chipping in to help. New Work Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) with true startup DNA. We are building forever-free open source tools, driving transparent conversation about the issue, and building mentor-driven communities to help address the problem. All volunteers are unpaid and simply want to leave it better than we found it. To keep tabs on our work you can give New Work Foundation a follow and subscribe to the Dear CC newsletter/content (link in comments). If you’d like to help, please reach out. If you’d like to pitch in with a donation, every little bit helps and goes directly to free tools and resources. Donate here: https://lnkd.in/gxNQCgiPDon Vu shared thisClara Shih and I hosted our first (in-person/virtual) offsite for New Work Foundation (NWF) yesterday in San Francisco (thanks to Bessemer Venture Partners for hosting!) Our mission for the non-profit is to "equip young workers in America with the AI tools, skills, and community to navigate an AI-reshaped economy." Some takeaways from trying to get this off the ground: 1. Everyone Wants to Help: When you state a universally important and shared goal like "helping young people to get started in their lives," the outpouring of support is limitless. We had ~25 all-volunteer humans join the meeting across all walks of life, from Gen Z folks looking for work to experienced executives searching for meaning. We started by asking everyone their "why" for interest in NWF. The answers were inspiring and collectively amounted to the idea that the future with AI can be great if we make it so. 2. This is a Startup: When Clara kindly asked me to join her as a co-founder, her approach really sold me. She wanted to run this like a startup, with lots of experimentation and fast failure. The problem we are trying to solve is clear. The solution is not. So it's fun to be in brainstorming mode. 3. Creativity Matters: Part of NWF is our DearCC content machine, producing podcasts and videos with recent grads talking about what it's like to find a job. We want to get more and more creative in how we produce the content. Expect some engaging stuff coming soon! 4. Claude Coding Our Way to Impact: We have been prototyping a number of solutions to help job seekers and it's been incredible to see our pace of iteration, given AI tools. StayRelevant (link below) is just one example of what's the come. 5. The Human Impact Is Real: My biggest takeaway is that we often intellectualize the jobs challenge - "how do we help people find roles?" Careers provide money and security, so they are important. But equally, we were heartened by the stories of job seekers who talked about the emotional toll - in particular, the loneliness of finding work. In our solutions, we want to make sure we help people with a sense of connection as well. We're all honored to have this side gig to help in a small way. So fired up for what's to come!

Don Vu shared thisWhich insurance AI companies will matter in ten years? The ICONIQ team put out a piece on this that's worth your time. Workflow automation is already table stakes. The platforms that compound will close the loop between action and outcome, and earn trust through verifiable, auditable decision-making. Distribution is its own opportunity. Appreciated the chance to contribute to their thinking. Thanks Sruthi, Carolyn, and Brooke! If you're an operator inside a carrier or MGA, it's a useful lens for evaluating which AI vendors are building something durable vs. just making existing workflows a little faster. Don Vu shared thisToo busy to take a selfie, but I did take a picture of this great sign. Last week I attended my first UVA School of Data Science board meeting. Genuinely grateful for the opportunity. It was humbling to be in a room with so many accomplished colleagues and faculty, all committed to building something that matters. It was a real reminder that the best work happens when people show up for something bigger than themselves. The biggest highlight was time with the students. They were sharp, curious, and clear-eyed about how AI is reshaping both what they're learning and what they're walking into as they start their careers. It gave me more energy and optimism than anything else that day. One thing I've heard from some leaders is that data science is becoming obsolete. That you can just hit an API or use one of the many incredible AI tools that are readily available to get what you need. I couldn't disagree more. Access to intelligence and tools is the easy part now. What's hard, and what still separates the teams driving real impact, is everything around it. A clear problem statement tied to a business outcome. A hypothesis and a genuine new way of working. The cross-functional collaboration to make it real, and the change management to get it to stick. And then the discipline to read the feedback loop, optimize, and keep iterating. That's data science. That's always been data science, and it's never been more relevant. Grateful to help the next generation at University of Virginia build on strong foundations and navigate a rapidly changing reality.

Don Vu shared thisIt's a privilege and honor to join the Advisory Board for the UVA School of Data Science. AI is dramatically reshaping how we live, work, and operate across every industry, and the opportunities and challenges ahead are enormous. Throughout my career I've focused on preparing people and organizations to thrive in an exponential world, and I've learned firsthand that AI is the ultimate team sport. That makes the UVA School of Data Science a natural fit. Founded on cross-disciplinary collaboration and the late Dean Bourne's vision of a "school without walls," the school provides a strong foundation for preparing the next generation to navigate and lead in an AI-driven world. Excited to help shape what comes next. 🙌Don Vu shared thisI'm excited to welcome our newest members to the UVA School of Data Science Advisory Board: Samantha Garofalo, Don Vu, and Will Foshay! Don Vu shared thisMy last official day at New York Life was earlier this month. After two and a half years building something I'm proud of and grateful for, it's time to move on to the next chapter. More on that in a future update. For now I wanted to share my appreciation for my time at New York Life and for the people who made it meaningful. To the AI & Data team: what we built together is special. You came from different places and different ways of seeing the work, grew through real challenges, and showed the kind of grit and adaptability that only comes from people who genuinely care. Watching this team find its footing and then its stride was one of the highlights of my career. The foundation you laid will compound for years. To the incredible partners across the enterprise who leaned in and collaborated on our AI and data transformation journey: none of it happens without you. AI transformation is the ultimate team sport, and I couldn't have asked for better teammates. In every move I make, I look for the chance to grow, have real impact, and work with people who care deeply about what they do. I had all of that at New York Life, and for that I'll always be grateful. 🙏

Don Vu shared thisOpenClaw has been fascinating to watch. If you haven't been following: it's an open-source AI agent that went viral over the past week or two, going from zero to 145K GitHub stars. It can proactively manage your calendar, clear your inbox, write code, run commands on your system. Basically, it can do anything you can do on your computer if you let it. It integrates with WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, iMessage, and essentially every messenger, so you engage with it like you'd talk to a colleague, friend, or assistant. That alone is an experience unlock for interacting with AI agents that seems to have added to its virality. The project has been through three name changes in a week (involving trademark issues and some crypto drama). There's even Moltbook, an AI agent social network built on top of it. More on that another time. A good summary here: https://lnkd.in/eq--5cGq There's something real here. This is the kind of proactive AI agent people have been waiting for. Not a deterministic, heavily orchestrated workflow, but something that can actually initiate action and adapt. For individuals, it's a genuine window into how AI will lead to further personal empowerment. For those of us leading enterprise AI transformation, though, it's in some ways the manifestation of the nightmare. How do we enable proactive, adaptive agentic AI safely at scale? We've all been working on it, with platforms, architectures, and operating models planned to handle it. But OpenClaw makes it tangible, and the risk profile is markedly different. In all honesty, many enterprises may not get to this level of proactive agency in the near future. Deterministic, highly controlled agentic AI will likely be more pervasive until the proactive, autonomous version is proven to operate safely and securely within the right guardrails. On the surface, enterprise deployment seems straightforward: agents only access what Joe Employee can access. Except Joe has judgment and has had required training on what NOT to do with sensitive data (in theory), and what the consequences are. You have onboarding, training, and access controls for employees. What versions of those should we have for AI agents? A few obvious places that have been on my mind: identity management for non-human identities, observability that catches agent behavior that traditional monitoring misses, governance frameworks including human-in-the-loop for irreversible actions. The enterprises, frontier labs, vendors, and delivery teams that figure out governance for proactive AI agents early, in a way that scales and drives business value, will have a real advantage. #AgenticAI #EnterpriseAI

Don Vu shared thisWhat a privilege to be at The New York Public Library's 2025 Library Lions Gala last night. It was truly an incredible evening. Bruce Springsteen talked about how a song is really just a story told in two and a half minutes: a complete narrative that can move you, change you, take you somewhere else entirely. And then he proved it, treating us to an acoustic performance that had the entire room spellbound. Sitting in that magnificent space, it struck me that the library does exactly that, with 54 million different stories waiting to be told. This year's Lions were absolutely legendary: Louise Erdrich, Daniel Kehlmann, James McBride, James Patterson, Shonda Rhimes, and Springsteen as the marquee honoree. What a remarkable gathering of master storytellers. The Library Lions tradition honors distinguished individuals who've made their mark in arts, culture, letters, and scholarship, joining the ranks of past honorees like Oprah Winfrey, Gloria Steinem, Steven Spielberg, and Spike Lee, who we saw recognized last year. Hearing Springsteen connect music to storytelling was powerful. It perfectly captures what this library represents: sharing stories that transform lives across all five boroughs, and not just through books. From free literacy programs and job training to citizenship classes and creative workshops, this institution understands that everyone has a story worth telling and a journey worth supporting. New York Life Insurance Company has been partnering with the library for over 75 years, and representing the company at this event alongside amazing colleagues never loses its significance. It remains an honor every single time. Every time I'm there, I'm reminded that libraries aren't just about books on shelves. They're about the stories that connect us all. Like Springsteen said about songs, whether it's two and a half minutes or 250 pages, a great story can change everything. Many thanks to Heather Malkin Nesle and the New York Life Foundation team for keeping this partnership going strong and for bringing us together. 📚 ❤️

Don Vu liked thisDon Vu liked thisThere's a huge opportunity right now in being the deployment layer for AI into the economy. The amount of work it takes to change out workflows in enterprises tends to be far greater than anyone realizes or would prefer. Clearly this is what the applied layer of AI is going to look like in the form of software and agents, but also it opens up new services firms opportunities. Legacy systems need to be moved to the cloud, data organization and access needs to be updated, software needs to be connected to agents in new ways, workflows need to be reengineered for agents, HITL needs to be figured out for the process, evals need to be generated and maintained, and the entire system needs to be continually updated as new models get released and new capabilities emerge. And the full list may even be longer. AI is not the same as just deploying software. Software you generally did the implementation of an existing, well understood category of technology, then stepped back and the customer kept running. With AI agents, you're delivering actual work augmentation to the organization, which has a completely different set of complexities associated with it. You're no longer deploying tools that the company is merely enabled by, you're deploying work output in a process. Completely different implementation and enablement process. As a result, this is going to open up lots of new kinds of firms and plays for existing firms to diffuse AI into organizations. We're going to see approaches by industry, by size of company, and by problem inside of companies. Traditional SIs will modernize and adapt (some will clearly not adapt as well), and new entrants will also be founded in this period that take advantage of this window. Great time to be an FDE or FDE firm.

Don Vu liked thisDon Vu liked thisMany of you know me through my day job of doing PR for Salesforce AI Research, Slack, and commerce, among other things. But in my free time, I’ve been helping Clara Shih and her new nonprofit, New Work Foundation, announce dearCC | Get hired in the AI economy A little backstory: I am the oldest of nine kids. Among us, many are still on their way to entering the working world. Two are still in high school, one just graduated college, and three others are working on (or just finished) getting their master's degrees. I’m so excited for their futures, but I’m also a little fearful at times. While I use AI all day, every day in my own job, it’s undoubtedly set the bar higher than ever for entry-level candidates. New Work Foundation, and dearCC specifically, is trying to do something real about it. It’s an AI-powered platform and Slack (‼️ 💜) community built to help Gen Z actually break through the current hiring freeze. Together the dearCC community and tools like Game Plan (which maps out personalized career steps) and Field Report (which shares real insider info on industry-specific hiring trends) gives them the mentorship and information needed to stand out and crack the code on landing their first real role. Here’s to turning AI from an obstacle into a massive advantage for the next generation of workers (including hopefully the rest of my siblings) 👏 Check out the announcement: https://lnkd.in/eCynHfPD And if you’re in the media world and interested in speaking with Clara/learning more about New Work Foundation, drop me a message 😊

I’ll be joining fellow leaders from banking and regulation for a fireside discussion on "How to use the best tool for the job." We’ll be looking at how technology has changed the way we work, from the tools that have shaped our careers to the automation and AI transforming regulatory reporting today - and where experience and human judgement still matter. I’m looking forward to contributing to the discussion, sharing some different experiences, and hearing perspectives from across the industry. Don Vu liked thisDon Vu liked this🚀 NBA Launchpad is back. Season 6 applications are officially open! 🚀 Over the past five years, 27 companies from 9 countries have come through the program and collectively closed 100+ deals with NBA and WNBA teams, with many direct partnerships with the league. The deal count is the easy thing to point to. The strategic value to the National Basketball Association (NBA), WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association), and broader basketball ecosystem is harder to quantify, but it's what continues to motivate our team. Products co-created through NBA Launchpad are changing how our players stay healthy and perform, how young players experience the game, how we run critical parts of our business, and, in some cases, what the on-court product itself will look like a few years from now. What keeps us investing here is that founders now build for basketball on purpose, and what they develop tends to travel well beyond our properties. That same logic is why Asia is a priority area this season. There is serious technical depth across the continent, particularly in hardware and in new ways of engaging fans across sports, media, and entertainment, and very little of it has been pointed at basketball so far. We want to change that, so if you are building in the region and you think our game is the right proving ground, shoot us a message & apply. Hi Everyone,<br><br>I've worked in Technology for over 30 years, with a career divided between technical roles — in the areas of architecture, engineering, and operations of large-scale data, AI and digital platforms — and executive leadership positions (Chief Architect, Technology, Data and Analytics Officer) bringing to the table a futuristic vision with the ability to realize it.<br><br>I spent more than a decade in Silicon Valley, where I was one of the leading architects of Salesforce’s innovations during its startup period, contributing directly to the breakthroughs that enabled cloud computing. I also led the data and analytics architecture at PayPal, driving the organization into the Big Data era. Later, I served as Chief Architect at Medidata, leading its SaaS platform migration to the cloud and its integration with IoT (medical sensors).<br><br>In early 2019, back in Brazil, I served as CTO and CDAO at Itaú, where I played a key role in the bank’s digital transformation. I was responsible for the modernization and design of customer platforms, CRM, data, AI, and Gen AI in the cloud. I also had an important role in the organization’s cultural transformation, promoting a AI-driven culture, with diversity and inclusion.<br><br>In mid-2024, I decided to step away from my role at Itaú to take an extended sabbatical. After years leading large-scale architectures and digital transformations, I wanted time to reflect, reconnect with purpose, and design the next chapter of my journey. Now, as I return, I’m focusing on working as a board member and independent consultant, senior advisor, leadership mentor, and speaker. My mission is to help organizations navigate the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century—particularly in the age of artificial intelligence. I bring to these conversations not just technical depth, but also a humanistic lens grounded in ethics, cultural transformation, leadership, mindfulness, and socio-environmental awareness.<br><br>I split my time between Belo Horizonte - Brazil, my hometown, and San Francisco, my long-time community in Silicon Valley. This dual perspective allows me to bridge global innovation with local insight—connecting philosophical, ethical, and anthropological ideas to real-world technology and business strategy. My background in yoga and meditation has also shaped the way I view leadership, decision making and organizational growth. After decades as a high-tech executive, I’m evolving into a more integrated role: one that unites data, AI, and digital strategy with purpose, human leadership, customer centricity and profit.

Anthropic CEO is outlining a plan to a FINRA + SEC like structure. Key concern is how do you balance innovation with safety and a race for Ai dominance with China, who stated 9 years ago this is a key goal and they are not far behind despite efforts to curtail the export of technology needed to achieve it. The former will slow down release of these models to a select few (potentially enshrining winners and losses + locking in cartel like setup for pricing) it will also likely make Opensource models more challenged to be successful (e.g some compliance fee or certification) to be hosted. I suspect hosting companies will be where the pressure is applied the most. https://lnkd.in/e44RA6V7

Cost versus value: Managing agentic AI system performance-Per-token pricing has stopped being a useful measure for what enterprises actually pay for gen AI. A conversation with David Tepper, CEO of Pay-i, delves into the new economics of measurement. or the first two years of gen AI adoption, most enterprises focused on access, experimentation, and deployment. As agents move into production, a different set of questions is emerging: How should leaders think about the economics of systems whose costs scale with usage rather than users? What happens when information, software, and even coding itself become increasingly generated on demand? The decision to scale an agent is increasingly becoming a complex and fast-changing economic decision, not a technical one. To explore these ideas in greater depth, McKinsey Senior Partner Lari Hämäläinen spoke with David Tepper, CEO and cofounder of Pay-i, who has spent the past three years building measurement and economics infrastructure for enterprise agentic systems (see sidebar “About Pay-i”). Tepper spent 19 years at Microsoft, where he held leadership roles related to Azure’s internal gen AI consumption strategy, and holds an early gen AI patent dating back to 2011. AI is Shaking Up Brand Visibility - Are You Ready? Hey marketers, remember the time when search visibility was all about rankings? Those times are long gone! Today, it's about discovery across traditional search results, local listings, and brand knowledge panels. The real game changer? Visible presence on AI-driven platforms that serve up answers without users even clicking. And here's a controversial theory: Visibility has become both tougher to measure and easier to lose. Hard pill to swallow, huh? But think about it, SEO teams now wrestle with trust signals and consistency, not just keywords. Well, guess what? Your brand may not be as visible as you think. Shocked? Within commerce and advertising, we view agentic experiences as a potential extension of ongoing efforts to reduce friction across the consumer journey where consumers may increasingly rely on AI native interfaces to assist with discovery, research, and purchase/transaction. As adoption broadens, we see the potential for greater convergence between commerce and advertising as platforms seek to connect commercial intent more directly with measurable transaction outcomes.

Personal AI assistants are becoming one of the most interesting areas of consumer AI because the product relationship is starting to change. We are seeing a new class of products that can retain context, operate across applications, stay active over time and increasingly complete outcomes on behalf of the user. As that capability improves, the important questions shift toward who earns the right to hold that context, where the assistant lives, how much autonomy users are willing to give it, and what keeps that relationship durable over time. Distribution, trust, habit and accumulated context will matter deeply. I am also watching what happens as personal AI assistants begin to coordinate across people, other agents and services. That multiplayer layer could create entirely new consumer networks and new forms of defensibility. The category is still early. We have strong products, meaningful capital formation and increasingly capable systems, while the long-term consumer relationship remains open.
