T4 es adecuado para las matrices de genotipos codominantes (aloenzimas y microsatélites nucleares) y dominantes, con un número ilimitado de alelos por locus, loci, individuos, poblaciones y taxones (individuos diploides, en el caso de co-dominantes de datos). Cualquier matriz de genotipos, siguiendo el patrón de uno de los genotipos aceptados por la codificación del formato propio del T4, es susceptible de ser transformado en los formatos de entrada de uno o varios de las herramientas informáticas mas comúnmente utilizadas para el estudio de las poblaciones.
