“Jamie and I worked in the same consulting group at Veolia for nearly 4 years, and with little exaggeration, he was among my favorite colleagues, making it a true pleasure to solve the complex and mission-driven problems our group was tackling. Jamie is the rare combination of extreme technical competence, strong intra-personal skills, a unique ability to win people over, a special passion for environmental innovation, and an overwhelming enthusiasm about what is possible. Jamie was a highly effective change agent with operations workers in the utilities in which we were solving deeply technical optimization and operational issues. Moreover, Jamie played an important role in leading the technical components of these projects and translating technical discovery and analyses into insights and action. He is a true leader who was able to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization, both internal and externally with our clients. I would enthusiastically recommend Jamie for any position or role. He is a positive, capable, and passionate leader and engineer, analytical thinker, and environmental/sustainability professional who can add value to any team.”

Teaming up with Dru and his wonderful team, A-Bay got to work with weekly meetings to align on their existing processes and procedures. Understanding how Dru Bru collected and utilized data along their brewing process was an essential first step. A-Bay started building out tools that would enable Dru Bru to utilize historical data quickly and efficiently. The restructuring and combining multiple databases allowed the data to be more accessible.
Through this collaborative approach, A-Bay continues to develop customized tools for Dru Bru to better suit their needs. These tools include dashboards with overviews of brewday performance, toolkits for mash, boil, & yeast, exception reports, comparisons of batch specific data vs beer averages vs targets and exception reporting. All together, A-Bay has developed an automated system for data entry and utilization, building transparency up and down Dru Bru’s organization.
Brewday & Fermentation Data Real Time Uses
- Grain temperature vs historical mash temperature analysis to ensure the mash temperature on each batch is achieved.
- Current vs historical mash and pre-boil gravity analysis to ensure each batch finishes in spec.
- Brewhouse Efficiency and volume yield analysis to maximize grain to sugar output, and optimize yield resulting in significant raw material cost saving.
- Real time fermentation analysis including warnings if fermentation performance is outside of acceptable limitsOther creatorsSee project -

ARM Global Solutions Data Integration

Arm Global Solutions and A-Bay Engineers started working together in Sept '20 in the midst of a global pandemic. During this time, A-Bay worked closely with managerial staff to determine what ARM’s biggest pain points were and how A-Bay’s expertise could help ARM to reach their short and long term goals. ARM, which started in 1988, has developed into the largest returnable packaging business in North America, helping companies such as DuPont, Carrier & Klockner minimize their carbon footprint. ARM’s focus on sustainability fits nicely with A-Bay’s vision to build a more resourceful and resilient tomorrow.
With A-Bays ability to develop business intelligence tools and streamline the flow of data within operations, there was an immediate opportunity to collaborate. “We no longer have layers of personnel tracking performance, we need these tools to enable our managers to quickly gain the insights they need from the data while wearing so many other hats too” noted Vice President Ron Auberger.
Transparency of performance across the organization and with key clients was lacking or suboptimal. Older excel based tools that utilized operational data had been sitting idle and speculation / guessing had started creeping in.
Working to show off ARM’s excellent performance for a key client, A-Bay developed intuitive, real-time, and customizable dashboards. Automated and streamlined systems were developed to reduce touchpoints and opportunity for errors, while reducing time required performing analysis.
“These tools give us a competitive advantage,” said ARM Vice President Ron Auberger. Improved transparency throughout the organization was realized. Facility managers are now able to have discussions with their operational staff about performance using real time data to build accountability.
Using these interactive dashboards, ARM took the initiative to provide innovative service to their clients, above and beyond what was required of them.Other creators -
Over Yonder Energy Billing Optimization

When A-Bay started working with Over Yonder, the complex structure of electrical bills was prohibiting Over Yonder from optimizing their electrical costs. Over Yonder was a new brewery that didn’t have the ability to benchmark their performance and costs against others to see where they stood. Their utility costs were viewed as a necessary evil.

Over Yonder was a new brewery that didn’t have the ability to benchmark their performance and costs against others to see where they stood. Their utility costs were viewed as a necessary evil.
A-Bay worked closely with Over Yonder’s electrical provider, XCEL to build transparency of electrical usage and billing rates, $ per Kilowatt Hour. Analysis of Over Yonder’s electrical spend and their rate structure revealed an opportunity to reduce their energy billing rate by more than 20% monthly. A free energy audit was conducted by XCEL that highlighted measures that could reduce energy consumption by 5%+ as well.
A-Bay was able to move Over Yonder to a more appropriate electrical rate and reduce their cost of electricity from ~$0.15 / kwh to $0.12 / kwh. This reduction has saved Over Yonder 21% monthly on their electricity bill.Other creatorsSee project
