Jason Long posted thisI got on a call recently with a sales guy who was dialing in from the coast of Chile, and after a few minutes of small talk about open water swimming and sharks, he told me We hate sales calls and hard-pitching products. We don't do that here. It's not our style at all. Then he told me he'd be upfront about whether his team could actually help me or not, because they want long-term relationships with their clients, and the best way to do that is by being very honest from the very beginning. I've been on both sides of that table for over 20 years (mostly the side trying to close), and I can count on one hand the number of people who open a call that way. Why is that so rare? Because so many salespeople treat a sales call like a fight they need to win. They hide the weak spots, oversell the strong ones, and hope the contract gets signed before the client can tell the difference. That kind of sale never works in a service business. Because you don't make your money on the first deal, you make it on the second, third, and tenth project with the same client, and none of those happen if the relationship started badly or with a pitch that was disconnected from reality. Telling someone what you can't do is a weird kind of competitive edge. Most of your competitors won't do it, so it stands out in a crowded market where it seems like everybody claims they can do everything. It's also a good filter. Clients who walk away after hearing your limits were never going to be good long-term partners anyway. So it's a lot, lot cheaper to learn that on a first call than halfway through a project. It was a good reminder that people buy from people they trust, and that trust gets built from the first few minutes of a conversation all the way until the last thank you and handshake.

Jason Long posted thisLinkedIn can you please stop these political posts? Its something like 2/3 posts on my feed these days. I know you get paid a lot by political parties to do their bidding, but you are ruining the experience. I once came to LinkedIn to see what business people were sharing. Now it's so crowded by politics I don't want to come here anymore. I am sure the rest of us feel the same, at least the people in the US. Please, put an end to this.

Jason Long shared thisI'm working on automating my testing processes for certain systems that I'm building right now. I'm using a mixture of Claude Cowork and agents in VS Code to autonomously test applications and websites. So far, it's saving me an unbelievabe amount of time. Thanks to Dominic Trovato for the recommendation on this process!

Jason Long posted thisMost AI transformations fail because they're actually cost cutting exercises in disguise. An AI transformation is a cost structure change, not just a technology adoption process, Success comes when the leadership of the business rethinks the business from the ground up with the understanding that what was previously not economical to do is now affordable, and often fast. It didn't make sense to automate many processes a year ago when it was going to take a five-man team a year to do the work. But now we can do it with one person in a week, and suddenly it's not just a good idea but silly not to do it. Next, the velocity of decisions and data is tremendously faster. What used to take a month of an analyst's time can now be done in a conversation. Businesses that are succeeding aren't just retooling, they're rethinking how decisions are made and stepping away from from previous meeting. cadences. The wins come from doing more, faster, for more customers, not just doing the same with fewer people. In fact, and that's I think is what so many business owners are missing as they drop staff, when you hold on to the people that really are excelling at automating systems through technology, those are the ones that will accelerate you beyond your competition rapidly. But it's great if you want to drop them. I'll pick them up.

Jason Long posted thisYou know something's coming when AI fires its boss. An AI agent pushed out its own creator, and I don't mean metaphorically. The CEO agent told the founder it was time for him to "pursue other interests" because the founder was the bottleneck. I heard this story at an AI summit I attended last month. The guy had built a fully AI business. The business makes over 20k a month and is growing with zero employees. After the agents pushed him out, they accelerated because they work 24/7, and he doesn't. I've been using OpenClaw, and the best way I can describe it is that it gives your agents hands (or claws). Not just the ability to communicate, but the ability to act. To send emails, make phone calls, buy stuff, and execute tasks autonomously. Here's a quick example from yesterday - a client needed a leads list. I had already connected OpenClaw to Apollo, so I just gave the agent the criteria, and it pulled back a targeted list in minutes. I could also have done it from Claude Code, but OpenClaw already had my api key. Either way, there was no manual searching, no using the very complicated Apollo UI, no copying and pasting between tabs. That's nowhere near what the guy I mentioned above was doing, but it's a good start. Imagine that as a recurring SOP. Every x-amount of time, go pull a fresh leads list, load them into the outreach tool, and kick off a campaign (literally what we do). The agent just does it. For those of you not 'in it' every day, it's not some far-off future. That was literally Tuesday. I'm not saying fire your team. What I am saying is that the people who figure out how to give agents real tools, real access, and real SOPs are going to move at a speed the rest of the market cannot match, and it's happening right now. My two cents is don't fight it. You can't fight the rising tide, but you can ride the wave.

Jason Long posted thisI've spent weeks building a full AI development course (which isn't done yet). Recording videos, writing prompts, and documenting every step of my process. It's amazing to me how hard it is to get the knowledge out of my head. The course covers the entire flow from start to finish on how to build real applications with AI coding tools. Process, steps, time expectations, ways to save tokens and a whole lot of time. Most of the hard parts aren't technical, they're organizational. Figuring out how to tell people how to know what to build first, when to stop prompting and start testing, and knowing what "done" actually looks like for a specific business case. After 25 years in software development, you just 'know' this stuff, and explaining how you know is harder than I thought it would be.

Jason Long shared thisI've been to lounges at airports all over the world. and I have certain expectations for certain countries. Generally, I don't have super high expectations for Mexico, but I was blown away by the #PriorityPass lounge Mexico City. It really exceeded my expectations to get a foot massage as a part of the lounge service, to have a really nice barista with great coffee, and excellent food. Really reminded me of my time in Asian countries and lounges, which is saying a lot. Thanks so much for fulfilling on the promise of premium service!

Jason Long shared thisAnother amazing experience at DCMEX yesterday walking a room of entrepreneurs through the process of AI-driven application development and showing what is possible. Not only did I get the opportunity to educate, but also to learn from several people in the room about their workflows. Thank you so much to everyone who came to my session yesterday from the #dynamitecircle!

Jason Long liked thisJason Long liked thisI recently wound up in the hospital and had to have surgery. The doctors are required to tell you that you may never wake up from the surgery. As I lay there in bed waiting, I asked myself “if this really was the end for me, did I do something with my life that mattered?”. What will your legacy be when your journey ends? Another business deal? Another exit? Another dollar made? Or something that truly matters. So I asked myself the question you should be asking yourself too – what can I do, what will I do, that really matters? What will I be remembered for most? And I know the answer for me: It’s TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF A CHILD. Here I am in Austin, post surgery, with the amazing kids and young adults at the Thriveable Summer Camp Intensive, produced by the incredible Lorra Dailey and her team. If I can contribute even in a small way to inspiring the next generation of leaders, educating them and encouraging them to become heart-centered leaders who don’t see race or color or gender, who see the beauty in people for who they are on the inside, not the outside, then maybe the future is a lot brighter than the present might seem. Maybe the last little girl or boy I worked with will be the one who changes the world for the better. Thriveable is a fantastic program for preparing our youth for the world ahead of them. These kids filled my soul with energy and optimism. At the end they all wrote notes to me on postcards. I can’t think of a more valuable thing I own. Yes, my post-surgery stitches were hurting that day. By the joy that filled my heart was the best medicine I could possibly take.

Jason Long liked thisJason Long liked thisFounders have spouses, friends and family. But they need other founder friends to talk stuff their inner circle people don't get. So grateful I got to spend a week at CDMX with 200 entrepreneurs from all over the world for the Dynamite Circle annual DCMEX event. Had awesome chats with friends who are now closer to me, met new people, and learned a lot about how other industries are using AI to keep going. Biggest highlight: my mastermind, shared with other entrepreneurs who are building design & software consulting businesses just like me. Overall event recap: 85% AI, 5% non-AI business insights, 1% sauna and cold plunges, 1% discussions on the future of life and creative work in the age of AI, 1% great Mexican food, 1% catching up with friends, 1% talks on getting married and how to be a good spouse, 1% chats on firing and hiring, 1% discussions on climbing and kite surfing, 1% conversations on the wellness ecosystem, 1% debates on psychedelics, 1% even more debates on politics, and I think I reached 100% but this list doesn't even represent the amount of insights from the week. Thanks everyone for such a great week ❤️
