Chenault: "It's not the strongest or the most intelligent who survive, but those most adaptive to change. Over the past 10 years, the need for, and focus on, adaptability has accelerated". What this says to me is that systems are important, but hiring the right people who are able and willing to adapt and lead through change is even more important.

Even so, Michelin has waded into the pool with a brand new wine scoring system starting with Burgundy and Bordeaux. A few weeks ago the company awarded “Three Grapes” (the highest designation) to just nine Burgundy estates out of the many hundreds that exist. What are the ratings based on? Remarkably, in an interview with The Drinks Business, Michelin International Director Gwendal Poullennec, said “…excellence is not defined solely by the prestige of a name. It is expressed above all through the precision of the work carried out both in the vineyard and in the cellar, and through the personality that each vintner brings to their estate in the pursuit of the highest quality.” Wow. Judia Black liked thisI recently joined Stephen Garten for the Charity Charge Show to discuss how MADD is thinking differently about the future of impaired driving prevention through strategic programming, partnerships, and innovative leadership, while supporting victims and survivors. As a 45-year-old legacy organization, MADD continues to lead cultural and policy shifts where safe choices are easier, expected, and built into the systems around us, and that movement is ongoing. We are working toward a future where advanced lifesaving technology becomes standard in all vehicles, where rideshare services and autonomous vehicles are part of responsible planning, where caring adults are equipped to talk to teens early and often, and where collaboration across sectors, industries, and communities remains a focus to keep roads safe and address the root causes of impaired driving. Things are constantly changing in society and we must innovate with them. That reality requires us to take a broader, more modern approach to prevention and meeting people where they are. Judia Black reacted on thisJudia Black reacted on thisTwo years after taking one of the biggest leaps of my life, I received some wonderful news: Napa Valley Noir® was voted the No. 3 Best Wine Tour Company in the nation in the 2026 USA TODAY 10BEST Readers' Choice Awards. Thank you to everyone who voted and shared! The timing for starting a company in 2024 wasn't exactly what I had envisioned when I moved from San Francisco to Napa Valley eleven years ago today. I planned to launch a communications consulting firm. But before I could put that plan into motion, Alpha Omega winery offered me the opportunity to become its first Director of Communications. It was simply too good to pass up. I put entrepreneurship on hold for a steady paycheck, health insurance, and the chance to help tell the story of one of Napa Valley's premier wineries. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I could have made. During nearly eight years at the winery, I learned far more than communications. I had always been on the receiving end of luxury hospitality as a journalist. Suddenly, I was helping create it. I'm grateful the company had faith in me, allowing me to build relationships with vintners, hospitality professionals, and so many others throughout the Napa Valley community. I immersed myself in the business of wine, eventually earning my WSET Level 3 certification. Those experiences shaped me in ways I couldn't have imagined. Then life took another unexpected turn. After returning from cancer treatment in November 2023, I unexpectedly lost my job. I had a choice. I could look for another communications position, or I could finally bet on myself. While I took on communications consulting projects, I found myself drawn in a different direction. I realized what energized me most wasn't simply telling Wine Country's story—it was helping people experience it through the relationships, knowledge, and perspective I had spent years developing. That’s when Napa Valley Noir was born. Has it been scary? Absolutely. There are still days when I worry about finding clients, stress over unsteady income and agonize over whether I'm making the right decisions. That's part of entrepreneurship. Which is why being named the No. 3 Best Wine Tour Company in the United States in the 2026 USA TODAY 10BEST Readers' Choice Awards means so much. This recognition belongs to every corporate and leisure client who has trusted me to elevate their Wine Country experience, every winery and hospitality partner who has welcomed my guests so warmly, and everyone who voted. Most of all, this recognition is a reminder that the most meaningful journeys are rarely the ones we set out to take. Thank you to every client, partner, friend, and supporter who has been part of this journey. In the end, people won't remember every conversation or every piece of advice. They'll remember who stood beside them. Through celebrations and heartbreak. Through uncertainty and hope. Through the moments that shaped their lives. Looking back, I realize I was never just helping people build wealth. I was earning a place in their stories. That is a privilege I have never taken for granted. To every client who trusted me, every colleague who challenged me, every mentor who believed in me, and every friend who walked this journey with me, thank you. Forty years later, I am reminded that the greatest legacy we leave behind isn't what we build. It's the lives we're blessed to be a small part of.
