Change starts with each of us holding ourselves accountable and taking actions towards a better, more just world. A lot of work needs to be done. Here's the note we shared with our team.

Alfred Lin reacted on thisIt is the honor of a lifetime to announce the launch of Summer Health via our public beta, in conjunction with our $7.5M fundraise co-led by Sequoia Capital and Lux Capital. At Summer Health, we believe that every American should have a phone number that they can text to get medical support within 15 minutes. It’s that simple. We are starting with pediatrics, a market where parents have no shortage of questions and providers are hungry for new care models. I started Summer Health because, as a mother of 2 young boys, I feel this problem acutely. We are thrilled to have some of the important healthcare and technology investors in our corner. Our $7.5M fundraise was co-led by Alfred Lin at Sequoia Capital and Deena Shakir at Lux Capital, with participation from Adam Rothenberg and Adina Davis at BoxGroup, Chelsea Clinton and Caroline Kassie at Metrodora Ventures, Shrug Capital, Springbank Collective, Ashley Mayer, Moving Ventures, Kate Ryder, Andrew Dudum, Amira Yahyaoui, Alyssa Jaffee and many others. I am deeply grateful for my team in getting us to this milestone. I’m joined on this journey by my co-founder Matthew Woo and the impressive group working on solving this hard problem: Tim Foran, Emily Boschwitz, Jose Rodriguez, Ali Alhassani, and Mimu Jung. I'm also grateful to my husband, David Eckstein, for supporting me throughout the process. Join us in creating this future we all want for ourselves and for each other. #pediatrics #healthcare #healthcareinnovation #benefits #startupgrowth #doctorsAlfred Lin reacted on thisToday we launch Summer Health to radically simplify access to health care. At Summer Health, we believe that the pediatric care journey should start with a text. Summer Health is the first step and and ongoing tool for anyone navigating their child’s health & development as well as postpartum needs. We offer timely text access to high-quality healthcare professionals who provide expert answers and reliable advice within 15 minutes. Our public beta is available nationwide, starting at $5 for your first month at www.summerhealth.com. Thank you to Ellen D., Matthew Woo, Ali Alhassani, Jose Rodriguez, Mimu J., Tim Foran, Emily Boschwitz, Alfred Lin, Sequoia Capital, Deena Shakir, Lux Group, BoxGroup, Chelsea Clinton and many more for making today possible. #pediatrics #healthcare #healthcareinnovation #benefits #startupgrowth #doctors #funding

Alfred Lin liked thisAlfred Lin liked thisTo think that Airbnb went public over a month ago! We GGV Capital have learned a great deal from Brian Chesky, Nathan Blecharczyk and Joe G. over the last 10 years. 1) Do things that don’t scale. Get out and meet your community. Understand how and why they use the product to build network advantage. More on Airbnb's early days via Glenn Solomon's Founder Real Talk podcast episode with Nathan Blecharczyk: https://lnkd.in/ghUuvZc 2) Be a student of the market. Always take a local first approach when it comes to global expansion. More on Airbnb going global via this Evolving for the Next Billion podcast episode: https://lnkd.in/gPn4wwB Congrats to early investors Alfred Lin at Sequoia Capital, Brian Singerman at Founders Fund and Jeff Jordan at Andreessen Horowitz. Glenn and I are thrilled to watch the Airbnb story continue to unfold!

Yesterday, two DCVC-backed companies raised about a half billion dollars. In today's funding environment, that's not that exceptional... Together, the two companies just happen to enable gigawatt-scale AI compute, except in the unprecedentedly small space of only about 40 shipping containers, no exotic cooling required. You have to wonder what the US military might do with a gigawatt-equivalent of compute they could fit in a few C5 flights... or a 100MW-compute platform that fits in a single rocket launch... Even that, in DCVC's world, isn't that exceptional. We like to say we help make the impossible and essential, profitable and available. But what is exceptional, and this is a theme with us folks, is that they are each only two of many of our companies delivering robustly on outcomes considered impossible on VC dollars or in reasonable time, at the point when we backed each company from very early on: - a safe, cost-effective, meltdown-proof, truck-portable 1 megawatt nuclear reactor (Radiant, see https://lnkd.in/gF3JAHwS) for American energy dominance - American-made AI semiconductor chips that match or outperform everything else at 100x the energy efficiency, on off-the-shelf models (Mythic, see https://lnkd.in/gWFdvZFT) We were able to make the calls on these, and how they could work together, along with similar calls on all of their brother and sister impossible companies, because of a very deep bench of unified scientific, engineering, operational, and business building experience considered passé by a lot of other folks. It's how we make the exceptional routine.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂… 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻’𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗲𝘁? Most founders think fundraising comes down to a great pitch deck, a sharp story, and a bit of luck. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻 says it’s much deeper, and most founders are flying blind. In one of his most insightful Stanford University talks, the Andreessen Horowitz co-founder breaks down how great founders actually raise capital, and the subtle moves that separate fundable startups from forgettable ones. Here are 𝟱 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿: 1️⃣ 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗷𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗩𝗖𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 Junior investors are your private “rehearsal stage.” They’ll tell you what’s missing, what’s confusing, and what senior partners will push back on, before it costs you the meeting. 2️⃣ Start raising long before you need the money If you’re low on runway, investors can smell it instantly. Fundraise from a position of strength, not survival. Momentum is your leverage, desperation destroys deals. 3️⃣ “𝗕𝗲 𝘀𝗼 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂.” Marc echoes Steve Martin here: excellence is the ultimate pitch. Show mastery of your market, real traction, clear insights, and a roadmap that feels inevitable. Hype fades. Substance converts. 4️⃣ 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗖 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 Founders who raise fast aren’t lucky, they’re known. Talk to junior VCs, senior partners, other founders, community members. When it’s time to raise, you want them thinking: “Oh yeah, I know this founder.” 5️⃣ 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝘂𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲 If you’re scrambling to pull financials, metrics, and docs together once investors show interest… you’re already signaling chaos. Great companies look prepared before anyone asks. Founders: don’t guess how fundraising works. Learn it from someone who’s shaped the industry.
