Rick Robertson liked thisRick Robertson liked thisSargent is happy to announce that we have donated a CAT D3 Dozer to the Goochland County Public Schools' heavy equipment program, and we believe it will be put to great use! Since our initial meeting with the school in Spring 2017, we've been dedicated to shaping the future of aspiring operators in collaboration with Director of Career and Technical Education Bruce Watson in the Richmond, VA region. From humble beginnings, the program has grown to include 57 enthusiastic students currently enrolled. Our involvement in the program goes beyond this donation, including classroom presentations, heavy equipment challenges, and other small contributions to help the students get firsthand experience. In honor of our commitment to the program, employee-owner Justin Embrey was inducted into the Career and Technical Education Hall of Fame in December 2022. We have also welcomed former students like Hunter Proffitt and Trent Lyle into the Sargent family. Two employee-owners who exemplify the program's success and our values. Candidate at Pepperdine Caruso School of Law 🌎 Malibu, California What was your favorite class at MBS and why? I truly enjoyed them all, but I think my very favorite class at MBS was MGT 220 - Business Law! This interesting course opened my eyes to where and how business and the law intersect. I enjoyed the historical aspect of the course, learning about the United States Supreme Court and receiving an introduction to the law, in addition to learning about how the law impacts the business community. This course was an integral part of my decision to attend law school. Why law school? I knew law school would be a challenging yet rewarding experience. I was eager to see how my business perspective could apply to law. There is a lot of overlap between business and law, and I believe that the skills and concepts that I learned in business law, strategic management, business writing, and public speaking prepared me for law school, and have significantly enhanced my experience thus far! After law school, I hope to work in an area that allows me to apply both my business experience and knowledge of law to aid my clients. I would encourage anyone interested to consider law school -- it will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life, and your business perspective will be valuable. What advice would you give a current undergrad? Be as curious as possible! If you are unsure about what you exactly want to do after graduation, embrace it and seek any and all opportunities to learn more about the careers and pathways available to you. Challenge yourself to attend on-campus events, converse with your professors outside of the classroom, and use LinkedIn to request to chat with people in your community who work in industries that intrigue you.
