Spencer Tall shared thisGreat post Charlie!Spencer Tall shared thisI read the 2026 HIPAA NPRM expecting a policy refresh. It reads like a forensic document. Every mandated control maps almost one-to-one to a 2024 breach failure mode. MFA is the Change Healthcare answer. Network segmentation is the Ascension answer. Asset inventory is the “we didn’t know that medical device was on the internet” answer. OCR isn’t asking hospitals to imagine new risk. They’re writing prescriptions against specific autopsies. A few things every healthcare CISO should know before the final rule drops: 1. “Addressable” is gone. Roughly 40 controls are moving to required or enhanced. 2. The compliance window is 240 days from final rule publication. For a change this size, that’s aggressive. 3. Segmentation isn’t optional anymore. It’s named explicitly, with enforcement expectations tied to it. Main Line Health is the proof point I keep coming back to. They cut MTTR on a segmentation-relevant incident from 4 to 6 hours down to 10 minutes. Not through a bigger SOC. Through identity-based policy that already knew what every device was allowed to talk to. I put the full breakdown on the blog, plus a one-page CISO briefing and a two-slide deck you can drop straight into a board readout. If you’re the person who’s going to own this program, start there. Spencer Tall reposted thisSpencer Tall reposted thisIt’s awesome that the world gets to finally see Fundamental coming out of stealth! I first met Jeremy Fraenkel in August of 2024 and knew after our first walk that he was the type of person you want to partner with. Beyond being genuinely a good person at his core, he communicated a clear vision for the company with precision. Super pumped to be a seed investor and doubling down on the Series A. The team and he have executed the vision, which has led to this Series A and an amazing partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Traditional ML algorithms are slow and inaccurate, and LLMs struggle with tabular data. The team cooked up NEXUS, a foundation model built from the ground up to reveal the hidden language of tables, and give enterprises the Power to Predict.

In part 2 Paul is going over how extensions are not just scripts running on top of a page. They are small systems living alongside the browser, each with a specific role and level of access. In this post, we break down how extensions are structured, how they communicate, and why that isolation is key to secure browsing. Spencer Tall reposted thisSpencer Tall reposted thisThis piece by Lucidworks CTO Guy Sperry on AI merchandising struck a chord with the e-commerce community and became one of our most-shared blogs of the year. Here's why: The core message remains timely as we enter the age of #AgenticAI: AI serves commerce best when it amplifies human expertise rather than replacing it. While the market chases fully automated solutions, successful retailers understand that merchandising requires the thoughtful direction a conductor brings to an orchestra. #CommerceStudio exemplifies this approach by providing merchandisers with comprehensive visibility and precise control, integrating sophisticated AI capabilities while keeping human expertise central to strategic decisions. The best technology enhances professional capability without obscuring the decision-making process. It provides better instruments for skilled professionals rather than attempting to eliminate professional judgment. Spencer Tall liked thisSpencer Tall liked thisThree continents. Nine offsites. One team. I have shared before that while we didn't intend to build a distributed team, COVID had other ideas and we found ourselves with the best and brightest scattered across three continents. What was once a challenge I sincerely believe is now an Elisity superpower. This week our engineering, product, and customer success teams came together in Gdańsk, Poland for Elisity’s 9th engineering all-hands offsite. We do it twice a year and it has become one of my favorite things to look forward to. This one may have been the best yet. We did three things. We took a hard, honest look at what we’ve learned as a team since moving to an AI-first software development lifecycle over the last two quarters: what actually got faster, what got harder, and what we’d go back and tell ourselves a year ago. We reviewed the next two horizons of our product strategy and build plan as one team, with the people who design the platform, the people who build it, the people who stand it up in customer environments, and the people who support it day-in and day-out for our customers, all at the same whiteboard. And we celebrated, because this team has earned it. A personal note. I had the opportunity to spend last Sunday afternoon at the European Solidarity Centre, built on the grounds of the Gdańsk shipyard where a strike in 1980 set in motion changes that reshaped a continent within a decade. Standing in that space, it is impossible not to be struck by how much is possible, and how quickly, when people stand up for their convictions and work tirelessly on a shared mission. That is recent history, not ancient. I walked out thinking about what a group of people with real conviction and a clear mission can accomplish together, which turned out to be a fitting frame for the rest of the week. A few thank yous I want to make in public. To Michal Garcarz, Michael Chomicz, Brent Colwell, and Pete Doolittle and the teams you lead: the preparation and cross-team collaboration you brought to Gdańsk are why we left with decisions, not just discussion. To Natalie Ouknin and Ester Nespoli: you planned and executed a flawless week. Running an offsite for a team spread across North America, Europe, and India is not a small thing, and you made it look effortless. To our customers and partners: this is the team behind the platform you trust to secure your critical assets and protect your most critical environments. They take that responsibility very seriously. And to engineers thinking about what’s next: we work hard, we play hard, and we do both together. We’re growing this team because of AI, not shrinking it. If building and scaling a security platform for what's next, alongside people who argue well and celebrate harder sounds like your kind of week, let’s talk. Thank you, team. Onward. #Elisity #ZeroTrust #Microsegmentation #Engineering #Hiring

Spencer Tall liked thisSpencer Tall liked thisWell, it's official. Today, NetRise is officially part of Dragos, Inc. alongside runZero and I am taking on a new role as Chief Business Officer of Dragos Public Sector. I'll be dipping my toe all across the business where needed, but living day to day in the public sector business unit. When Michael Scott and I started NetRise in 2020, we had a pretty simple belief: you cannot secure software you do not understand. There was an enormous amount of software running inside the devices and systems we depend on every day that security teams simply could not see. We set out to change that. Over the last six years, that idea turned into a company, an incredible team, technology I am immensely proud of, and customers ranging from some of the largest companies in the world to the United States government. Today, we get to take that mission much further. NetRise and runZero are officially joining Dragos to build what I believe is a fundamentally different approach to securing the entire xOT environment. Dragos brings world-class OT security and threat intelligence. runZero brings incredible asset visibility and exposure management. NetRise brings visibility into the software and firmware running inside those assets. Together, we can understand the asset, the software inside it, the vulnerabilities and risks associated with it, and the threats targeting it. I have spent most of my career thinking about the security of the systems that underpin our country and our way of life. Joining Dragos gives us the opportunity to attack that problem at a scale we simply could not have reached on our own. I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who helped us get here. Our employees who took a chance on a startup and repeatedly did things that probably should have been impossible. Our customers who trusted us with incredibly important problems. Our investors, advisors, partners, friends, and families who supported us through all of the chaos that comes with building a company. And especially Michael Scott Building a company from nothing is an insane thing to do, and there is nobody else I would rather have done it with. This is the end of one chapter for NetRise, but it definitely isn't the end of the mission. In a lot of ways, we're just getting started. I'm really looking forward to partnering with Robert M. Lee and HD Moore, two people I have had an immense amount of respect for in this industry for years and people I know I can learn a lot from. Spencer Tall liked thisSpencer Tall liked thisWhat changes when the identities on your network aren't people? That's the question Jason Elrod, Healthcare CISO and Executive Advisor at Elisity, takes on in a new podcast episode with Becker's Healthcare A few things worth pulling out: • Governance tells you who owns an agent and who can switch it off. It doesn't tell you what that agent can reach. • Exposure is defined by access. In a hospital environment, an agent can touch far more than anyone coming from traditional corporate IT would expect. • Least privilege and segmentation still apply to non-human identities. They're also exactly where most health systems stall when they try to execute at scale. And none of this requires a new budget line to start. Link in comments 👇

💥 this one's for the operators.. special edition of the ai market memo just dropped PE or VC, which actually creates more wealth for operators? this one’s special because I’m in these conversations weekly with GTM execs, VC partners, and PE sponsors. and most operators are making a huge financial decision of their career using wrong napkin math. It’s cap table math. and the math decides whether “0.2% equity” becomes $0 or millions. so in this special edition, we broke it down in parts: 1. the real equation wrong napkin math and the actual payout formula that determines outcomes. 2. the two wealth engines broke down the two operator wealth models: - VC = power law (home run derby outcomes) - PE = manufacturing (timelines + transaction probability) Milad Alucozai gave some great advice on participating preferred. 3. cap table terms before we touched the math, we got the vocabulary straight: common vs preferred, pref stack, dilution, vesting, acceleration, Polina Karachentseva explains single-trigger vs. double-trigger acceleration really well using the windsurf deal as an example. 4. the ‘right’ math. why pressure-testing these four variables: dilution, preference stack, timing and eligibility / acceleration are critical. 5. scenarios then we ran real scenarios both VC and PE including the good and the brutal: - the home run - the “decent exit” - common gets smoked - the acqui-hire trap (headline exit, $0 payout) - the PE leaver clause haircut 6. due diligence checklist finally, the questions operators should take note on. and some wise words from Colin Lernell's stuff. link in the comments.

Today, we're welcoming ORION Security to the Norwest portfolio. The #DLP market has grown to $5B, yet most solutions are still built on thousands of static, human-authored policies. Spending time with Nitay Milner (CEO & Co-Founder) and Jonathan Kreiner (CTO & Co-Founder) in Tel Aviv reinforced why ORION stands apart. Their work is grounded in firsthand experience with the limitations of legacy DLP, guiding their passion and urgency to pave the way for an autonomous, context-driven approach that confronts today’s evolving risks head‑on. Looking forward to seeing what the team builds next as enterprises adopt autonomous DLP at scale. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gH7vXs4x

I am excited to announce that Shine Capital has led AudioShake’s $14M Series A. Our investment represents the culmination of two years of searching for a company that will define the next generation of audio. Since 2023, we have been asking ourselves the question, "What technology will be used pervasively across the totality of the audio landscape?" Then we met Jessica Powell and Luke Miner, founders of AudioShake. AudioShake makes a suite of AI-powered tools for processing audio that include stem-splitting, voice isolation, speaker separation, and more. These primitives are critical infrastructure for almost any task involving audio, as evidenced by the breadth of use cases that the company serves. The Walt Disney Company and Downtown Music use AudioShake to make tracks available for sync licensing. Film studios and post-production houses use AudioShake to clean up sound from microphones to prevent re-recordings and manual audio engineering. Sports leagues and broadcasters use AudioShake to separate stadium noise from commentary to enable clean captioning and crisper audio. And Big Tech and frontier labs use AudioShake to prepare their audio data for multimodal AI training. We believe that audio will be the most important medium in the age of AI, defined by explosive growth across three categories that are even better with AudioShake: 1) Audio-as-AI-Interface: For the first time, people can perform complex compute operations using their voice. Conversing with AI will propel voice assistant usage well beyond its current ~50% adoption. 2) Explosion of Content: The rate at which user-generated content is made continues to accelerate, which will be further amplified by the possibility of AI-generated content. Audio is a superset of video — nearly every video uses sound to convey meaning, message, or emotion. 3) Voice Agents for Business: More than $100B of phone labor is performed annually in the United States. While some of it sits in call centers, most of it is fractional work. Businesses across finance, healthcare, and beyond have rapidly adopted phone agents. We are fortunate to partner with Jessica Powell and Luke Miner, passionate entrepreneurs and audiophiles dedicated to making audio as easy to work with as images or text. Audio contains vast amounts of information and creative possibility, and AudioShake will help unlock it. Thank you to our friends at Indicator Ventures for connecting us to Jessica. We are thrilled to support the AudioShake team with them, alongside Origin Ventures, Thomson Reuters, Precursor Ventures and Background Capital.

As AI workloads eat up global computing supply, DRAM prices are surging like never before—creating major challenges for teams trying to plan out their data center spend. One of my portfolio companies, Mext, is addressing the largest cost component in the datacenter: server memory (DRAM). From being on the board of Redis for the last twelve years, I’ve learned a lot about the various aspects of this problem and approaches to solving them. Mext found a breakthrough, using new AI techniques, for dramatically reducing the amount of server-DRAM required to run applications, all while maintaining performance. It intelligently manages the server’s memory, keeping hot pages (i.e., those in use by applications) in fast DRAM and offloading cold pages (i.e., those less used) to a much less expensive memory tier (e.g., NVMe Flash). Key to the approach is ensuring cold memory pages that are about to be accessed by an application are back in DRAM before the application needs them or notices that they were gone. This is done without modifications to the application or the OS – so it can run in the cloud or on-premise. Mext thus allows applications to either run using less DRAM or keep their DRAM footprint but do more with it. They're hosting a webinar along with Fred Weber (former CTO of AMD) on Jan 22nd at 10am pacific time. You can register here: https://lnkd.in/gXe9GCeE

George Rockett, you are a soul brother of mine. George Rockett Peter Gross, PE Dean Nelson Christian Belady Joseph Kava Alex Veytsel Twenty five years pricing contracts on the buyer side has left me professionally suspicious of everyone. Twenty five years of men in good suits quoting uptime figures that would embarrass a weather forecaster. My default setting: show me the receipts. George has receipts · George invented the filing cabinet. What everyone who arrived after 2015 missed: there was no industry. Just engineers in windowless buildings, each convinced he was the only person alive who cared about chilled water. Their own mothers thought they worked in IT. George found them. One at a time. Not to sell them anything ⋯ out of pure curiosity, which is the one thing you cannot fake for thirty years. He never sold data center space. He built the community that came to fill it. ↝ Publishing by 1998. Vocabulary, then rooms, then arguments. Events by 2002, and that was the unlock. Not another ballroom with cold chicken and a lanyard that strangles you by hour three ⟶ a room where the engineer, the utility guy, the developer, the CFO and the investor finally had to look each other in the face. He saw two decades early that the walls were the problem. Some leaders choose distance. Michael Jackson mystical, floating behind glass. George went the other way. Present. Accessible. Human. The Taylor Swift model: everyone believes they are his close personal friend, and the maddening part is they are all correct. ◆ Do not mistake the warmth for softness. Not just the most thoughtful person in this industry. The hardest thinking person in it. Power, silicon, capital, policy, land, water, snarled like fishing line at the bottom of a boat, and George sits with it until it comes apart into something usable. Somebody had to argue this sector into consequence. George was holding the loom. Then the thing almost nobody bothers with. Training the next generation. Ethics and stewardship in the same syllabus as cooling design. He refused to let this become a business that only knows how to count. Then 2023. The exact age a reasonable man takes the board seat and works on his short game. He started over instead. Yotta. And this week Bowmark took a majority of InfraXmedia, the house he built, now carrying DCD, Yotta, Data Center Nation, SDxCentral. Magazine nobody asked for to a platform private equity paid up for. Not luck. Twenty eight years of compounding. I have been wrong about timing my whole career and right about most everything else. So take this as a professional assessment: George is not evolving. He is unlocking new characters. https://lnkd.in/edMDz8pf
