How can something as simple as calorie supply reveal lessons for European #startup investors? This ranking of the world’s best-fed countries offers more than data on diets. It’s a window into systems of abundance, efficiency, and waste. Belgium, Israel, and the United States lead in calorie supply, but what’s striking is how #Europe dominates the list. Twenty-seven of the top forty countries are European. This reflects not only strong agricultural output but also efficient systems that turn resources into consistent supply. For investors, it’s a reminder that scale alone is not the full story. Abundance without optimization creates waste. A fund or startup can show strong inputs capital, deals, or mentors but still underperform if resources are not converted into lasting value. The most successful ecosystems are those that balance growth with efficiency. Europe’s position in the rankings also highlights the advantage of established infrastructure. Founders and #investors operating here benefit from stability, networks, and trust but risk complacency. The next wave of value will come from reducing waste, improving processes, and reallocating excess capacity toward innovation. Ibec’s Founders Report 2025 is now live! This year’s report, shaped by the voices of founders across Ibec and Technology Ireland membership, offers a powerful snapshot of Ireland’s founders startup landscape — the optimism, the ambition, and the barriers still holding growth back. The annual Ibec Founders Report, based on research conducted with over 70 founders, reveals that while Founder confidence remains high, significant challenges in accessing funding and competing for talent are holding them back.  Despite 68% feeling optimistic about the next six months- growth is being constrained. The top challenges identified were access to funding (27%) and competition on pay (37%). Administrative red tape was also cited as a key structural barrier.  Ireland's startup ecosystem continues to grow, supported by strong research institutions, incubators, and accelerators.
