While reflecting on how the future of AI is going to reshape work, I came across a must read BCG Henderson Institute research note AI will reshape more jobs than it replaces That line matters. Because most boardroom conversations on AI still get stuck in one narrow question - How many jobs will AI replace? But the better question is How many jobs will AI redesign? BCG's research estimates that over the next 2–3 years: - 50–55% of jobs may be reshaped by AI, while - 10–15% of jobs may be vulnerable to elimination That is a very different narrative. The bigger shift is not simply job loss. It is role evolution. - A customer service role may move from answering routine queries to handling exceptions and relationships. - A financial analyst may move from preparing reports to interpreting signals and advising decisions. - A software engineer may move from writing every line of code to orchestrating systems, architecture, quality, and business outcomes. - A marketer may move from channel execution to AI-enabled omnichannel strategy. And alongside this, new roles will emerge: AI workflow designers AI quality reviewers AI risk and governance specialists Human-AI collaboration managers AI systems integrators AI change enablement leads The real disruption is not that AI will do everything. The real disruption is that average execution will no longer be enough. Work will move from: doing tasks to supervising intelligence creating outputs to designing outcomes following processes to redesigning workflows using tools to collaborating with AI systems For leaders, the message is clear: Do not start with layoffs. Start with workflow redesign. Do not ask only where AI can reduce cost. Ask where AI can improve speed, quality, revenue, experience and decision-making. Do not treat upskilling as a training calendar item. Treat it as workforce architecture. Because in the AI era, the companies that succeed may not be the ones that replace most people. I teach Lean Management to high-performing teams for a living. But for a long time, my own office was the ultimate contradiction. I would stand in boardrooms explaining the power of 5S for operational excellence. Then I would sit at a desk buried in loose papers and digital clutter. I knew the theory perfectly, but I was failing to practice it in my own space. The mental friction was exhausting. I was wasting valuable brainpower just trying to find things. So, I decided to treat my own workspace like my biggest client. I applied the exact 5S framework I teach: 1️⃣ Sort, 2️⃣ Set in Order, 3️⃣ Shine, 4️⃣ Standardize, and 5️⃣ Sustain. The results were immediate. I quickly remembered that 5S is not about glorified housekeeping. It is about designing an environment that actually serves you. 🌟 Morale transforms when you walk into a calm, ready-to-work space every morning. ⏱️ Productivity spikes when you can find the exact file you need in under 10 seconds. 🧠 Mental clarity returns when your physical environment stops competing for your attention. Most people misunderstand 5S. They think it is just a corporate cleaning schedule. If you want to truly optimize your workspace, here are three unique Lean principles most people overlook: 🔍 5S is actually about "Anomaly Detection." ✅ A perfectly organized space makes out-of-place items visually scream at you. ✅ You spot missing files or broken processes instantly, long before they become actual problems. 🏷️ The psychological trick of the "Red Tag." ✅ We hold onto clutter "just in case." ✅ In Lean, we place a red tag on doubtful items and move them to a holding area. ✅ If you do not touch it in 30 days, it leaves. ✅ It completely removes the emotional stress of organizing. 📏 The 30-Second Rule. ✅ If someone on your team cannot find a critical document or tool in 30 seconds, your system has failed. ✅ The goal is intuitive access for everyone, not just the person who organized it. To keep this discipline alive, you have to build a standard. That is why I rely heavily on the Service Industry 5S Audit Checklist you see below. It keeps the chaos from creeping back in. But simply holding a checklist does not make you Lean. If you want to start auditing your own space, remember these golden rules: 🛠️ Fix the system, never blame the person: If a desk is constantly messy, your storage process is broken. 🤝 Audit through conversation: Do not become the office police. Ask your team what is physically slowing them down. 📈 Focus on consistency: A quick ten-minute weekly check builds a culture of excellence much faster than a massive annual deep clean. In reality, some of the highest-impact improvements come from redesigning the workplace itself. The transformation shown here is a great example. Before, the production area had undefined traffic routes, unclear work zones, and shared space for pedestrians, forklifts, and materials. This created unnecessary motion, safety risks, and wasted time. After, the workplace became a Visual Factory where the environment itself guides people to work safely and efficiently. Several Lean tools have been implemented: ✅ 5S – Unnecessary items were removed, workstations were organized, and standards were established to maintain a clean and efficient workplace. ✅ Visual Management – Floor markings, color coding, safety signs, and clear labels make information visible at a glance, reducing confusion and improving decision-making. ✅ Traffic Flow Management – Dedicated pedestrian walkways and separate forklift lanes eliminate conflicts between people and vehicles, significantly improving safety. ✅ Factory Layout Optimization – Equipment and work areas are arranged to support smoother material flow while minimizing unnecessary transportation and motion. ✅ Standard Work – Standardized markings and visual instructions ensure everyone follows the same best practices every day. ✅ Safety Management (EHS) – Clearly marked crossings, hazard zones, and mandatory PPE signs help reduce workplace accidents and create a safer environment. ✅ Waste Elimination (Muda) – The new layout minimizes unnecessary movement, transportation, waiting, and other forms of waste that negatively impact productivity. The most valuable outcome isn’t just a cleaner factory—it’s a workplace that communicates with employees. Workers immediately know where to walk, where forklifts operate, where materials belong, and how to perform tasks safely. This is the essence of Lean: creating systems where the process naturally supports the right behavior instead of relying solely on procedures or supervision. A well-designed workplace improves safety, productivity, quality, and employee engagement—without purchasing a single new machine. Continuous improvement often starts with a roll of floor tape, not a million-dollar investment.

🏭 Workplace Floor Markings in Beverages Manufacturing. Simple Lines. Clear Rules. Safer Shop Floors. In high-speed beverages manufacturing environments such as PET, glass, and canning lines, floor markings are not just visual guides. They function as a structured visual control system that ensures safety, disciplined material flow, quality segregation, and compliance with global manufacturing standards. Every color used on the shop floor has a defined purpose and supports day-to-day production activities. 🟨 Yellow – Aisles and Traffic Lanes Yellow markings define safe movement paths for forklifts, pallet trolleys, and operators. In beverage plants, these lanes control the movement of sugar, preforms, closures, and finished goods pallets. Keeping aisles clear reduces congestion, collision risk, and production delays. 🔵 Blue – Raw Material Staging Blue zones are used for staging preforms near the blower, caps near the cap feeder, and label rolls near the labeller. Proper discipline in blue areas ensures FIFO compliance and prevents line stoppages due to material shortages. ⚫ Black – Work in Progress (WIP) Black markings indicate WIP zones where partially processed products are temporarily stored. Examples include filled bottles waiting for labelling or packed cartons pending final checks. Defined WIP areas prevent product mix-ups during changeovers. 🟠 Orange – Product Held for Inspection Orange zones are designated quality hold areas. Trial batches, new flavour runs, or products awaiting Brix, CO₂, torque, or fill-level approval are kept here until officially released by QA. 🔴 Red – Defect, Scrap, and Red-Tag Area Red zones isolate rejected bottles, leakers, damaged cartons, and non-conforming items. Clear segregation protects product integrity and supports structured root cause analysis. ⚪ White – Equipment and Utility Storage White areas are reserved for approved equipment such as change-part trolleys, spare pumps, motors, and maintenance tools, supporting strong 5S practices. ⚫⚪ Black–White – Operational Access (Keep Clear) These markings ensure unobstructed access to electrical panels, MCC rooms, and machine control stations, enabling safe and quick intervention. ⚫🟡 Black–Yellow – Hazard Zones Used near blower ovens, shrink tunnels, and high-speed conveyors, these zones highlight operational hazards and restrict unauthorized entry. 🔴⚪ Red–White – Safety and Emergency Access Fire extinguishers, emergency exits, and eye-wash stations must always remain accessible without exception. 🟢 Green – Finished Goods Staging Green zones are used for QA-approved finished products staged for warehousing and dispatch. The way we design roles has not kept up with the way work has changed. That gap is where performance stalls. Where engagement drops. Where your best people quietly check out. Here’s where it shows up and what to do instead: 1. Busy doesn’t mean effective Stop rewarding effort. Start rewarding movement. → Redefine roles around 3 clear outcomes, not endless tasks → Ask weekly: “What actually moved forward?” 2. Roles built around tasks will break Tasks are easy to automate. Thinking is not. → Strip roles back to decision-making, problem-solving, creativity → Build in space for thinking time, not just doing time. 3. Most people think productivity problems are about motivation. Sometimes, it’s just the setup. Did a quick audit of my workspace today and realized how small desk changes quietly affect focus, posture, energy, and deep work capacity.
