Bequignol Wine

©IFV-INRA-Montpellier SupAgro | Bequinol Grapes

In France, it is most commonly grown in Lavilledieu. The variety is not overly common in Argentina but plantings far surpass those of France. Here, it is used in blends with Malbec, Bonarda and Cabernet Sauvignon.

While the variety is quite productive and performs well in dry conditions, vignerons have been slow to produce varietal Bequignol wines. When so, they are light and best consumed young.

Synonyms include: Chausset, Breton, Blanc Fer, Red Chenin, Negrotte.
