I built my website with WordPress. When I search for my website (amngroup.se) on Google, the search results display a strange or incorrect favicon (a bird) instead of my own. However, when I visit the website directly, the correct favicon is shown. I also tested using Google's favicon service:

https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=amngroup.se&sz=64

This correctly shows my favicon.

Why does Google Search display a different favicon, and how can I ensure it shows the correct one?

  • For starters, I'd recommend that you fix the icon references your document currently contains. There are multiple <link rel="icon" type="image/png" sizes="16x16" href="/favicon-16x16.png">, for icon sizes 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 96x96 and 192x192 - and except for the 96x96 one, all those URLs only give a 404 error response. I just checked the amngroup.se, and I could see your favicon. Maybe you should clear your browser and retry it.
