We are planning a two-day conference in pure mathematics at our university in India. This would be my first time as a organizer. The university, being relatively new, has already provided some financial support; however, this funding is not sufficient to cover all expenses. The programme is intended to be fully academic and scholarly, there will be no registration fee, and participants will be provided with local support (accommodation and meal). We therefore require a modest additional amount (approximately €500). While this may be a small sum internationally, it represents a significant amount in Indian currency.
Since this is a conference in pure mathematics, industrial sponsorship is unlikely. I would therefore like to know whether there are international mathematical organizations that offer financial support for such events. In particular, I have noticed that some mathematics conference posters acknowledge academic journals as sponsors. How does sponsorship by a journal typically work, and what is the appropriate way to approach a journal to request a small amount of financial support?
