The train hub has cogs on the driven wheels that mesh with the rack on the bridge pieces, so in theory, there should be no slipping. The LEGO Group is also notoriously strict about testing its products and their compatibility, so while I don't have these parts on hand to try, I'd be surprised if these two sets weren't working together. However, others have experienced that when the train hub is powered by batteries with nominal voltage lower than 1.5V (or even partially discharged ones), the locomotive becomes unable to pull larger weights (multiple wagons with their load) up the incline. In that case, the suggested answers to this question could help troubleshoot the issue.
