Daniel Novak shared thisIt was great to connect with our Metro Inc. network at the Metro Pharmacy Conference in Niagara Falls last week as we bring in multiple new listings to shelves across Ontario. Embarrassing Canadian confession: first time I visited the falls 😬 Made sure the little ones checked off that box much earlier! Erin Little Charles Buhagiar

Daniel Novak shared thisThis team at Landish has taken a pretty unconventional path. Leaving jobs on the same Friday. Rebuilding the company from scratch 3 years in. Building a Health Canada site-licensed manufacturing plant during the pandemic despite being advised against operating as a brand and manufacturer at the same time. Taking on new wellness categories with fresh eyes and a local-first / lab-tested / would-we-give-this-to-our-families-daily approach has been our calling card. This has involved working up the North American supply chain to help source and develop better ingredients, understanding that false starts are part of figuring it out. Merci à notre communauté de plus de 150 000 clients, qui continue de nous inspirer à travers les hauts et les bas de la vie entrepreneuriale, et merci à EY de nous aider à raconter notre histoire! Daniel Novak shared thisKeeping the momentum going with Costco Wholesale Canada, launching our Landish Creatine Monohydrate (1 kg / 200 servings) on costco[dot]ca. This is a co-branding with Creapure, the only creatine monohydrate in the world synthesized outside of China, produced in a purpose-built, pharmaceutical-grade facility in Germany. It's also widely known as the purest creatine monohydrate in the world and the only one guaranteeing 0 ppm of dihydrotriazine, a toxic byproduct, thanks to a patented process designed to prevent its formation entirely. Not a single other creatine offers this advantage. If you've ever seen "Made in Canada/USA/UK" on a creatine product, these would be non-compliant statements, simply referring to the creatine powder being micronized (ground down to smaller particles) in those countries, an attempt at "last substantial transformation" to bypass product origin laws. What does our label say? "Creatine made in Germany. Packaged and lab tested in Canada". This refers to Landish packing the creatine in our own facility, isolated from all priority allergens, and a second series of lab tests we have a third party, Health Canada accredited facility conduct in addition to those done in Germany. Supply is limited and $69.99 CAD (shipping included) is an amazing price for 200 servings. If you do order, a review would be super appreciated ☺️ Costco Wholesale Canada once again, thanks for supporting Canadian partners making purity and transparency a priority. Daniel Novak shared thisSharing an email I sent to our community this morning. For my network outside Canada: this is a snapshot of how we’re thinking about things right now, and part of our ongoing response to economic coercion and threats to our sovereignty. It’s motivation to do better here, and to support each other. What this is not: even the slightest negative sentiment toward our US-based partners. We’re united by shared values, and we’re grateful for the relationships we’ve built. Prosperity isn’t a zero-sum game. It can and should be the opposite. If this resonates, I’d genuinely love to hear your perspective, especially from folks building in Canada and the US.

Daniel Novak shared thisAfter over 100 days of Costco roadshows, we’re now officially live on Costco[dot]ca. Only 24 hours in and it's very rewarding to see some nice volume already moving after putting in so much hard work. When we approached the RTD category, we wanted to broaden access to our Canadian-made North Atlantic marine collagen (made from wild cod and haddock skins that would otherwise go to waste) by offering a convenient format and punchy flavours, but with a whole list of picky requirements. You can order them now for only $3.18 (CAD) per can with shipping included (usually $4.99 at retail). What you get: → A healthy dose (5 g) of high-purity, wild, Canadian-made, low–molecular weight marine collagen peptides (ultra-bioavailable) → Light, no-bloat sparkle with a crisp, refreshing finish → 50% DV vitamin C as a cofactor (essential for collagen synthesis) → 0 g sugar, sweetened with monk fruit; no artificial flavours or sweeteners (no aspartame, sucralose, sugar alcohols) → All 20 calories from protein → Certified organic natural flavours (no funky stuff) → In a BPA-free can Thanks Costco Wholesale Canada for backing Canadian innovation 🍁💪

Daniel Novak liked thisDaniel Novak liked thisThe world faces two significant near-term risks that seem on their face unrelated, but with every passing day become more dangerously entangled. US Debt The first risk is the size of the US debt and deficit. As has been frequently-noted, the US debt recently passed the $40 Trillion mark. And the US deficit stands at around 6% of GDP. As interest on that debt ticks up, the deficit and debt rise inexorably. A day of reckoning for the US economy seems to be drawing nearer. The two most effective ways of averting a crisis — increasing revenues (through taxation), or reducing expenses — both appear politically impossible. And so the US is left with one remaining solution: to grow their way out of their debt. This is what is being proposed by the US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who claims that if the US can grow at 3% per year, then it can escape a debt trap. Except the US economy has rarely grown at 3% a year; in fact, it’s only had 5 years where it grew at 3% a year since 2000. And so consistently growing at 3% would seem to be very unlikely, maybe impossible. Enter AI The only real hope the US has to consistently grow at 3% a year is to fundamentally increase productivity and the rate of growth of the US economy, and the only thing that has any chance to make this kind of fundamental change is AI. I believe this explains in large measure the complete resistance of the Trump administration in imposing ANY kind of sensible regulation on this run-away industry, despite the industry practically begging for it. The administration is afraid that even the most modest regulation would tap the breaks on a US economy that is all-in on AI, which could lead to a financial crisis. These two risks — an unsustainable US debt, and an unconstrained all-in bet on AI — are coming together to create a very unstable future. Each of them poses an extraordinary systemic risk on their own, but they are made worse by their entanglement with each other. The fear of doing anything to slow the economy will make the US much less willing to put the necessary constraints and guardrails on AI. And equally, if/when the US debt crisis arrives, it will be significantly worse because of the all-in bet on AI. This could lead to an unprecedented crisis, one that the US government will find extremely hard to manage because they will have no fiscal capacity left. Mark Carney recently spoke about the need to prepare for "extreme tail risks”, including even the potential of a US invasion of Canada. I’m glad he’s considering all potential risks, even things as unlikely as that. Much more likely in my opinion is a crisis kicked off by some combination of an unconstrained AI sector going off the rails and a US debt crisis. I think it’s time to try to imagine what that could look like, and to be prepared for it.

A huge thank you to all of our amazing partners and to the Purity Life team for the continued trust, support, and collaboration. I feel very lucky to work alongside so many incredible people. Feeling very thankful for this one and excited for what’s ahead!

Daniel Novak liked thisDaniel Novak liked thisFour beauty brands. One packaging innovation. Almost the same launch window. Fenty Skin teased its new hydrogel eye patches on September 18. Four days later, Glow Recipe and Huda Beauty revealed remarkably similar products. To be honest identical ! Meanwhile, Korean brand Wonder Bath already had its version on the market. All four featured a similar concept: a twist mechanism that dispenses individual eye patches without the usual struggle of separating slippery patches from a jar. How do several major beauty brands end up introducing almost identical packaging within days of each other? Having worked with beauty manufacturers, I know that many brands have access to the same packaging innovations. Suppliers develop new mechanisms, present them to multiple clients, and brands incorporate them into their development pipelines. Creating exclusive packaging requires additional investment, tooling and development time. For many brands, choosing an existing innovation is simply a more commercially viable option. But this situation raises an interesting question about how much visibility brands have into what their suppliers are simultaneously developing for competitors. There is currently no confirmation that these four brands share the same packaging manufacturer. However, the similarity of the mechanisms and the remarkably close launch announcements illustrate a broader challenge facing the beauty industry. When innovation becomes accessible to everyone, differentiation becomes increasingly difficult. And here's where I think this story gets particularly interesting. The packaging doesn't just solve a practical problem. It creates an experience. Twist the jar, watch the patch appear, and suddenly something as ordinary as applying an eye mask becomes satisfying content. The packaging becomes the demonstration. The demonstration becomes the marketing. Fenty Skin even joined the conversation with a playful reference to the Spider-Man pointing meme, acknowledging the similarities rather than ignoring them. You might as well “lean in” at this point! It's a reminder that when several brands arrive at a similar innovation, the conversation can quickly shift from product development to brand personality. Ultimately, the brands may share a similar mechanism, but they don't necessarily share the same formulation, audience, positioning or distribution strategy. And those differences matter. For beauty brands, the challenge isn't always creating something nobody else has. It's building a brand that consumers recognize and choose, even when competitors have access to similar innovations. If your competitor launched a product with almost identical packaging tomorrow, would your brand still stand out? #BeautyIndustry #BeautyInnovation #BrandStrategy #ProductDevelopment #BeautyMarketing

We’re excited to announce the acquisition of 9 Industrial Road in Perth, Ontario, in partnership with Melinor. The 79,892 SF industrial facility was acquired through a sale-leaseback with Eaton, which will remain the long-term tenant. This marks MONDEV's first acquisition outside Quebec. Daniel Novak liked thisDaniel Novak liked thisAnd just like that… another CHFA NOW Toronto is in the books! 💙✨ There’s something pretty special about standing on the show floor and seeing months of planning, emails, spreadsheets, meetings, vendor calls, last-minute changes (and maybe a little controlled chaos 😅) all come to life. This year’s Purity City was bigger, busier and full of energy — and I couldn’t be happier with how it all came together. From our incredible vendor and broker partners who brought their brands to life, to our retailers who came through ready to connect and discover what’s new, and of course the entire Purity Life team who jumped in wherever needed — THANK YOU. 💙 And a special shoutout to the behind-the-scenes show partners who make my job possible. Events like this take a village, and I’m incredibly grateful for the teams at Cross Connect, Freeman, ShowTech and Exhibition Place, along with all of the show suppliers, crews and partners who help turn my plans, floorplans and MANY requests into reality. 😂 Your support, problem-solving and willingness to jump in when I need something (often very last minute!) is such a huge part of making a show like this successful. One of my favourite parts of what I do is getting to bring all of these pieces together and then finally watch the plans turn into real conversations, connections and moments on the show floor.A huge thank you as well to CHFA for continuing to create a space where our industry can come together, discover what’s next and celebrate the people and brands behind it. Definitely tired. 😂 Definitely proud.
