Super Beautiful Frosted Cranberries Plus Sugar-Free Option

Frosted Cranberries for Garnish

I have been making frosted cranberries for about nine years now! I started making them because they were pretty and festive and I thought they would look beautiful on a tray for Christmas.

My family enjoyed them so much, I now make them every year during the holidays! I posted this picture on my instagram Christmas Eve and so many people wanted to know more about it, so I wanted to share this recipe with you today!

These are delicious on their own, with turkey, on a cheese tray, fruit platter, and the best way is for garnishes on drinks! Frosted cranberries make any drink look prettier. You can even add it to sparkling water, cokes, champagne, tea and the list goes on.

This are super easy to make and they make a big statement!

Since New Year’s Eve is this week, you should definitely make some for your celebration. If you do champagne at midnight, this would be perfect.

I can’t do champagne this year due to medication, but you can bet I will be adding these to some sparkling cider or tea 😉

Frosted Cranberries

  • 1 bag of FRESH cranberries (must be fresh)
  • 1/4 – 1/2 cup egg whites (I buy the organic carton you can safely eat)
  •  1 cup of Raw organic sugar, divided into two parts
  • Optional: Coconut sugar

Directions:

  1. In a bowl, add the fresh cranberries and pour over the egg whites. I usually need about 1/4 cup, but you can use up to 1/2 cup of egg whites. Just make sure they are all completely coated.
  2. Next, take one part of the raw sugar and add to the bowl and mix well until combined with all the cranberries.
  3. Spread out this cranberry mixture onto a tray lined with wax paper. Next, sprinkle the rest of the raw sugar on top. Let this dry for a few hours on the counter, then pop the tray in the fridge overnight.

The next morning, you can sprinkle the top with some coconut sugar for some texture. These do best in the fridge and pop them out whenever you need! If adding to champagne, add 4-5 cranberries per glass 🙂

Frosted Cranberries

They will really look like they are snowy, frosted cranberries in winter 🙂 They taste great this time of years when they cranberries are sweet.  You can also add almost anything to these once they are done. Chopped nuts, pomegranate seeds, or even dried cranberries!

Chemist Tips for Frosted Cranberries

If you need sugar-free options, replace the sugar with some course baking stevia. You will need to use much less egg white since the stevia will dissolved more. Feel free to increase the amount needed as well to keep the frosted look 🙂

If you have any of these leftover, they freeze really well!

Do you do anything big on New Year’s Eve? This will be the first one my husband has off in many years, so I am just excited about getting to hang out with him 🙂

Enjoy the rest of 2015!
