I'm unable to run any single Stack Exchange Data Explorer query. I keep getting an error that "something unexpected went wrong while running your query".

Per this prior post, this happens whenever Cloudflare needs to verify that I'm not a bot. However, no matter how many times I try to run the query, I keep getting the verification message and I'm unable to run even a single query.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Go to any random query on the Data Explorer, such as this one.
  2. Run the query and wait some time for it to run: "Hold tight while we fetch your results"
  3. Receive an error that "something unexpected went wrong": "Something unexpected went wrong while running your query. Don't worry, blame is already being assigned."
  4. Refresh the page, or click on any internal link on the page. Notice that there's a Cloudflare verification: "Verifying you are human. This may take a few seconds."
You can't always reproduce this by refreshing the page, but I was able to consistently reproduce by clicking another link.
  5. Go back to the same query (if you followed another link) and repeat steps 2-4 endlessly.

It looks like whenever I run a query, it triggers a verification, which stops it from being able to work.

I'm using Microsoft Edge 140 on Windows 11. My Ray ID is 98933bb6780e8c16.

Can confirm. Further, logging in does not solve the issue. Commented Oct 8 at 21:10

This specific scenario (inability to run any SEDE query) appears to solved. Unfortunately, the more general bug of cryptic feedback when a Cloudflare verification is requested is not.
