I'm handling inbound calls by responding with TwilML that initiates a verb. The is to a business where I expect ringing and then a human to answer, or a voicemail.

How can i detect if the call is abandoned by the caller (hung up by the calling party before a human answered, or before a voicemail was left?).

Is Call Duration on this child call the best indicator I have?

  • If you're in a one party consent state so you can record your calls without notice, I'd run them through a local TTS engine. Sure, it's a lot of CPU cost, but as long as you've got it to spare -- and having answers you're confident in from an expensive path lets you confidently evaluate cheaper paths to quantity efficacy loss. (Caveat: my background -- when I last did VoIP work more then a decade ago -- is Asterisk, not Twilio, so I'm not in a place to suggest anything product-specific) Commented Nov 10 at 15:11
