Aleka Gutzmore shared thisAn end of an era… and the beginning of something new. Here I am with Ashley Brown and Tom, after a national team training day, standing in front of one of London’s most iconic landmarks, a fitting backdrop for a milestone that feels significant and bittersweet. After almost ten years with Moneysprite, it's time for me to move on. I still remember the recruiter saying, “Can you wait two weeks? The director is on holiday, but I have the perfect home for you.” He was right. Back in 2016, the Financial HUG® was still in its infancy, with just two workshops behind it. Ashley listened to my vision and said, “I’ll support that.” He kept his word. He is one of the leaders I will remember; the care he provides to every team member is outstanding. At Moneysprite, personal and professional well-being are not just words; they are at the heart of the company. "Treat people well, and the rest becomes easier, more ethical and far more enjoyable." - My Christmases will never be the same! I joined Moneysprite with an idea and I leave as a multi-award-winning financial educator, carrying a wealth of knowledge, experience and gratitude. I was given room to grow, challenged when I needed it and championed at every turn. Now it is time to step into the next phase of my career. Moneysprite has not lost me completely; I will continue to interact with the team, just no longer as the front-facing adviser. In the interim, my clients will be supported by a very capable team: Arjan Bhakar, Ameer Mer and Jasneth Richards. Financial services will remain at the heart of everything I do; for now, I will simply be doing it differently. The Financial HUG® continues. But today, I am celebrating the remarkable company and people who helped turn a hopeful idea into a recognisable brand and framework, with so much more still to come. Thank you for an unforgettable chapter. 🏆 The next one is already taking shape, and I cannot wait to share more. #leadershipdevelopment #newchapter #succession

1wAleka Gutzmore shared this⭐Recognising the People Raising the Standard.⭐ As BMPAN marks two years of progress and launches the BMPAN Standard, we are celebrating the professionals whose leadership, courage and generosity are already shaping a stronger, more inclusive mortgage industry. Excellence is not defined by seniority, job title or commercial success alone. It is reflected in how we lead, the barriers we break, the doors we open and the opportunities we create for others. Across our industry, Black professionals and allies are making that difference every day, advocating for colleagues, sharing knowledge and networks, challenging established thinking, collaborating generously and helping others move forward. Too often, their impact goes unrecognised. Together, we can change that. Now we are asking the BMPAN community and our wider professional network to help us recognise them. 💫 Who is raising the standard? Think of someone you have worked with, learned from, been supported by or seen create meaningful change across the mortgage industry. Who opened a door? Who broke down a barrier? Who brought people together, led with purpose or consistently gave back? Nominate an individual in one or all of the five categories and share a few sentences about the contribution they have made. - https://lnkd.in/eC_9YRB2 Your nomination can help ensure their leadership is seen, valued and celebrated. Take a moment today: nominate someone, celebrate their impact and help us shine a light on the people building a better future for our industry. #excellence #blackprofessionals #recognition #alleys #leadership -

Aleka Gutzmore liked this"What happens in this house stays in this house." Many of us grew up hearing it. Some of us are still living by it. It may have started as protection: protecting the family's dignity from a society that already judged us. But protection that keeps someone unsafe isn't protection. It's control. Silence doesn't protect the family. It protects the person causing the harm. This week I joined The BMHM Show's Domestic Violence Awareness Month series to talk about breaking the silence and stigma around domestic abuse in Black families and communities. Here are the thoughts I want to leave with you. Respectability is a strategy, not a need. Underneath it are real needs for belonging, dignity and acceptance. But when the family's image matters more than the person inside the home, the need for acceptance gets met at the cost of the need for safety. Shame keeps people silent. One survivor I've worked with feared "embarrassment and judgment more than she feared for her life." Our brains are wired for belonging, so being judged or cast out by family, church or community can register as a bigger threat than the abuse itself. Abuse is not only physical. Verbal, emotional, financial and controlling behaviour work on the mind and the nervous system. Repeated criticism becomes how a person sees themselves. "Be strong" has a cost. Only 14% of Black women experiencing severe intimate partner violence sought help from mental health professionals. When help is refused, people learn to stop asking. Nearly 4 in 5 Black and minoritised survivors face rejection from refuges, compared with 1 in 5 overall (Imkaan/EVAW). Over time that becomes a subconscious belief: my feelings don't matter, I have to handle this alone. Children learn the rule without being told and carry it into their own relationships and parenting. That's how one family rule becomes a generational pattern. But a pattern isn't destiny. Once it's made conscious, it can be broken. Black men experience abuse too, and are often met with disbelief, shame and "man up." "Just leave" is not simple. 38% of women murdered by ex-partners were killed within one month of separation (Femicide Census). If someone confides in you: "I believe you. Thank you for telling me. It's not your fault." Then listen. If you're living with abuse and aren't ready to tell anyone: what you're feeling is real, it isn't your fault, and you deserve to feel safe. Breaking the silence isn't betrayal. It's protection. Full episode below. In many Black families and communities, cultural expectations to "keep it in the house," protect the family's image, or stay strong at all costs can keep survivors from speaking up and getting help. In this special episode of The BMHM Show, part of our Domestic Violence Awareness Series, host Shawn Cunningham is joined by Maisha Sumah, Dr. Elizabeth Ssemanda, MD, PhD and Ayesha Giselle Dornelly for an honest conversation about the cultural stigma surrounding domestic violence, the barriers survivors face when seeking help, the mental health impact on survivors and children, and how families, faith communities, and loved ones can offer safe, meaningful support. Your story, your voice, and your healing matter.
