Alex M. reposted thisAlex M. reposted thisAs AI technology continues to evolve, the importance of sharing knowledge grows with it. That’s why companies like NVIDIA and OpenAI have released their own open weight models, giving developers everywhere the chance to inspect, fine-tune, and build on their work. On October 8th, we’re bringing together the people who share that belief for a panel at our office warming party in San Francisco. We’ll discuss the current state of open weight models, the role they play in the broader ecosystem, and where our panelists think they’re heading next. Panelists: - Venkat Srinivasan, Research Scientist @ NVIDIA - Kathy K., Member of Product Staff @ OpenAI - Man Luo, Senior ML Scientist @ Abridge - Alex M., Global Head of Experian Ventures - George Hurn-Maloney, CEO & Co-Founder @ Fastino Labs Join us in our new office for good food and conversation. Alex M. reposted thisAlex M. reposted thisBREAKING: Sequoia just made one of their partners' private AI briefings public. Pat Grady recorded his full view on AI for Sequoia's LPs. His partners liked it so much they told him to share it with everyone. This doesn't happen often. When a top-tier firm opens an internal LP briefing to the public, that's a signal they want the market to hear something specific. Sequoia is shaping the narrative on AI right now. What Grady sees that most builders don't is worth your time. My full breakdown: https://lnkd.in/dxYHsVv5

Alex M. reposted thisAlex M. reposted thisStarting today, eligible U.S. users can choose to securely access and better understand their own Experian credit information through Finances in ChatGPT. It’s another way consumers can engage with Experian, alongside the products and services we provide directly and the experiences we power for our clients. When users choose to connect to Experian through Finances in ChatGPT, they can access their Experian credit report, VantageScore® 3.0 credit score and credit monitoring, then use the conversational power of AI to explore what that information means for them. It adds another seamless way for consumers to engage with their credit information, using their own Experian credit information as context to better understand their credit profile and how it relates to the financial goals they are working toward. Just as importantly, consumers remain in control. They choose when to access their Experian credit information, with Experian providing the trusted and protected credit information and capabilities behind the experience. As Jeff Softley, CEO of Experian North America, said: “Consumers increasingly expect to access and understand their financial information wherever they choose to engage, and AI is becoming another important part of that landscape. This experience gives ChatGPT users the choice to securely access their own Experian credit information and use the conversational power of AI to better understand what it means.” As consumers increasingly manage their financial lives across different experiences, our goal remains the same: to help people better understand their financial information and put it to work for them. More access. More understanding. More ways to engage with Experian. Alex M. reposted thisAlex M. reposted thisWe just closed a $20M Series A, led by Hoxton Ventures, with Underline Ventures, OTB Ventures, GapMinder VC, Day One Capital and LAUNCHub Ventures. The goal hasn't changed since day one: continuous intelligence on every company in the world. Most company data is a snapshot from the last refresh, while real commercial risk moves by the hour. We set out to close that gap. Today that means 642M companies across 249 countries, resolved into legal entities, locations, and corporate hierarchies. Each one carries 461 attributes that are re-derived as the world changes, and every data point traces back to its source. Those numbers are easy to write in a post. Getting there was hard. A small team in Bucharest had to solve problems without a playbook. They matched a company's legal registration to its real operations when the two barely resemble each other. They figured out which source to trust when three disagree. They rebuilt the pipeline more than once when it hit a scale we hadn't planned for, and then rebuilt it again. The same engineers spent endless hours in customer calls, because watching someone use the data is the fastest way to find where it breaks. That work is why more than 100 organizations run on this graph today. One of them is Experian, where over the past few years we've seen our approach make a difference where it matters most. They know how much high-quality data counts, and working alongside a team with that standard has pushed us to raise ours. Next: more coverage, accelerated growth, and better data where it matters most. To everyone in this photo: you built this. I'm proud to build it with you.

Alex M. reposted thisAlex M. reposted thisTwo or three years ago, this was a happy hour and a pickleball tournament tacked onto Counter, the premier gathering of CVCs. Last year, we took the full leap into CVC Week: 20+ events across San Francisco with 1,000 corporates, founders, and investors in attendance. At Counterpart Ventures, we're the best in the world at bridging traditional and corporate VC. This year we're going even further. A few highlights: ➡️Industry Night: 8 happy hours and dinners, all on Tuesday night, all powered by Counter Club members across Healthcare, Physical AI, Energy Tech, Fintech, Industrial Tech, and Defense Tech. We host the core four events of the week. Everything else is community-enabled, which is exactly the point. Getting to run a community that shows up like this is a genuine privilege. ➡️Platform Day: The morning after Counter VII, we kick off the only full-day summit built for platform and portfolio development professionals at CVCs. As the only non-investor at Counterpart, this one's mine, and it's been a pleasure building the day with the Adobe Ventures team. ➡️Social Events: I've been working on my bowling game for Thursday night with RemoFirst and Pilot.com. Rounding out the week with hoops Sunday and yoga Tuesday 🧘 Full schedule for Counter Club members can be found on: https://counterclub.vc/ Thank you to our annual partners who have been with us from the beginning: Aduro Advisors, Amazon Web Services (AWS), DLA Piper, PitchBook, Silicon Valley Bank None of this happens without the CVC Week Intern Team. Huge thanks to the hard work of Nathalie Thibault, Jadee Lin, and Emile Shah. And to Nicholas Fluegel, Vardaan Ghai, and Luc Oreskovic for everything they touched this summer. Of course, Patrick Eggen, Mikey Kailis, Tanvi Narain, and Joe Saijo for the leadership and guidance that makes this whole thing possible. Shoko Kanehara is even flying in from Japan for this year!

Alex M. reacted on thisAlex M. reacted on thisAfter a long run at Intel Capital, I have decided to move on and do something different. I plan to stay in the industry and will make an announcement at the appropriate time. In the meantime, I will continue to work closely with great companies like Beep, Inc., LILT AI and MinIO. Of course, I continue to talk to other founders to explore ways I can help. Thanks to the great team Intel Capital and, in particular, to my great friend and partner, Anthony Lin (林立中) with whom I worked so closely. Thanks also to Andy Fligel and Nick Washburn for their help in creating such a fun and productive team. Best of luck to all of you!

Alex M. liked thisAlex M. liked thisBen Thompson (Stratechery) says consumer AI has a marketing problem because the average consumer doesn't actually want to be more productive. "Tech companies are like, 'Let us book your flight for you!' I’ve had a personal assistant for 10 years. He does not come within an inch of booking my flights for me. That is crazy talk." "I understand which ones are gonna be delayed. I know which seat I want to be on. So the fact that this is continually a demo is hilarious to me." “Number two: people love shopping. They don’t want to be productive. They want to be entertained. One of the biggest forms of entertainment is shopping.” "Also, there’s so much information on a product page. Companies have spent so much energy focusing on that. You look at apparel as a category. They’re going to tell you what size the model is wearing, and you want to know that, and you want to look at the different styles." "The idea of having a personal agent that’s going and getting some of the information and bringing it back to you, and then you’re like, 'Well, what about this other thing? Tell me about this thing.'" "And you have your eager tech company executive say, “Oh, I have an assistant that can do it for you!" "And it’s like, no. Not only do I want to do it, I want to complain about it. I’m enjoying myself complaining right now, okay? Would you just let me be and live my life?"

Alex M. liked thisAlex M. liked thisBaselayer has raised a $35M Series A led by M13, with participation from Torch Capital, Picus Capital, Afore Capital and Matt Thompson of Socure. Alongside the round, it launched its Agentic Identity Suite. Founded in 2024 by Jonathan Awad (CEO) and Timothy Hyde (CTO), the New York company provides identity verification and risk infrastructure to more than 2,300 financial institutions and payments companies, around one in five in the US. It says it has helped customers prevent more than $1B in fraud losses. Now it's extending that infrastructure to AI agents. As agents start to open accounts, make purchases and move money on someone's behalf, banks and merchants need to know which agent they're dealing with, who it represents, and whether it's authorised to act. The Agentic Identity Suite is built to answer those questions cryptographically, and includes what Baselayer calls the industry's first agentic fraud consortium. The company works with partners including FIS, Prove and Socure, and is helping shape emerging standards through groups like the FIDO Alliance and the x402 Identity Working Group, alongside Cloudflare, Google, Visa and Mastercard. BIG news !!! NVIDIA buying Groq in a huge yet creative 20B USD cash licensing deal!!! Other than Google's TPUs, Groq is/was the most notable attempt on building an alternative that is AI-first to NVIDIA's #GPUs (using an architecture that allows for much more efficient scheduling). Grok's founder actually came from the Google TPU team. That's a strong addition to the Nvidia portfolio. Nvidia demonstrates clear commitment to maintain its dominance in the AI compute space, and an interesting signal for anyone working on an alternative... Less competition isn't great, but more options at scale is 🤷🏻♂️ On a personal note, I am a bullish investor in NVIDIA and an early investor in Groq - so quite happy 😀😇 https://lnkd.in/dt5qWuxa #compute #ai

Meanwhile, for Ibiden, the "build it and they will buy" narrative continues for its AI server substrates (outside of CPUs), and we expect high growth to continue, driven by both increased production from its new plant and ASP increases on the back of evolution in technology. In FY26, in addition to the shift to the Rubin generation for its GPU customer, Ibiden should also benefit from a contribution from switch ICs (production/shipment to begin in 2H25). The company is also set to begin production/shipments for two major ASIC makers (US hyperscalers) from late 2026 to 2027. We believe that ABF substrates with embedded components may be used for ASIC applications, which would further increase the technical complexity of production. Given Ibiden's progress acquiring customers, we expect that even as the company expands capacity, production will keep pace with shipments. We forecast sustained earnings expansion for Ibiden driven by higher production and ASP increases (mix improvement) for GPU/ASIC applications, and by sustained price hikes for CPU applications.
