We're opening distribution in NorCal this fall, so I drove up to the Bay last week to cover some ground! I didn't realize until I went looking for a hotel that it was Dreamforce week. Everything in the city was booked, and so was everything around it, so I ended up at a hotel in Sonoma driving an hour and a half to get everywhere.
There's something funny about running into Dreamforce by accident. I spent seven years in tech and flew from NY to SF often, and the last time I was at that conference I was working it, reporting on the whole thing for Slack employees. Back then, someone else decided when/where I traveled for work. This time, it was my call!
I picked the meetings, planned the route (not so great!), and drove up from LA with a trunk full of frozen focaccia. It's more stressful now (no per diem), but more exciting.
Some highlights from the week:
- Scoped out Berkeley Bowl with
Trever Knoflick
- Toured the
Good Eggs facility in Oakland and finally met
Bermet Zumabaeva in person after months of emails
- Supported
Ishika Das Deshmukh +
Le Zette at the
Startup CPG Woodlands Grocery Run (our focaccia as a vehicle for their sheep's milk yogurt products)
- Caught up with
Scott Kucirek, who I met at Fancy Food earlier this year
- Had some incredible meals, including the newish Bar Panisse (+ some amazing Sonoma recs from
Chris Crowe)
Last summer we were a folding table at an LA farmers market. Now we're 200+ doors strong with two new regions opening up! That said, I'm still figuring most of it out as I go.
Something magical amidst the chaos of last week: I packed a tote bag I hadn't used in a year. One night at the hotel, after a jam-packed 48 hours of driving Sonoma to Berkeley to the city to Marin to Oakland (wouldn't recommend), I found a little medal in the bottom of it that belonged to Auntie Jennie. I'd forgotten I had it, and had no idea I'd been carrying it around all week.
It was my first big business trip as a founder, and she'd been with me the entire time.
