It was filled with ENERGY, IDEAS, OPPORTUNITIES, and COLLABORATION. The highly informative briefs from Harrison Conyers (Mayor’s Office), David Norquist (NDIA CEO), Capt. Jeffrey Flumignan (NDTA), Chris Budihas (Keystone Heights Innovation & Defense Campus), Northeast Florida Regional Council, Congressman Rutherford, and regional base commanders set the stage for an action filled initiative building workshop. This catalyst event is the launching pad for action between stakeholders from military, government, industry and academia. Identify the gap. Find the solution. Create the change. Move faster. Do better. Build the community. Regional Action = Global Impact! This day was inspirational and passion filled. Much more work to be done but what a great start! Joe Rodriguez liked thisJoe Rodriguez liked thisMarine Corps Col. Christopher McDonald II assumed command of Fleet Readiness Center East from Navy Capt. Randy Berti during a change of command ceremony today. FRC East is on Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, down in Havelock. It is the largest industrial employer in Eastern North Carolina, and it overhauls aircraft, mostly Navy and Marine aircraft. McDonald has served as the depot’s executive officer since 2024 and previously served as the depot’s logistics and industrial operations military deputy group head from 2016 to 2018. So he knows the place, which is good. McDonald is a native of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He enlisted in the Marines in 1988. He earned his commission as an officer in December 1999, and has worked in aviation logistics. He commanded Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 14 from 2018 to 2020. He has deployed overseas several times. Navy Capt. Charles Fisher Jr. will serve as FRCE’s new executive officer. Fisher most recently served as maintenance officer for Commander, Strike Fighter Wing Atlantic at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach.
