Nick Wiseman posted thisSome major additions to the Little Sesame team lately. We’re thrilled to welcome Alexandra O'Brien as Chief Marketing Officer, fresh off an amazing run at Harmless Harvest. She’s a world-class brand builder and I’m very excited to hand her the megaphone. We also added Jesse Merrill, Co-founder & CEO of good culture, to our Board of Directors. Jesse built one of the most inspiring brands in food, and I can’t wait to bring that kind of bold thinking to our category. Big moment for our team. Excited for this next chapter together.

Nick Wiseman reposted thisNick Wiseman reposted thisIt’s not easy to disrupt categories that have looked the same for decades, but it’s what makes the results even more rewarding. I’m constantly inspired by the brands rewriting the rules and making old-school staples exciting again. Right now, I’m cheering for brands like: ✨ BEZI: if you don’t know what labneh is, you will soon. ✨ Heyday Canning Co.: making pantry staples crave-worthy ✨ Fishwife: who knew tinned fish could be so aesthetic? ✨ Little Sesame : delicious hummus with main character energy Big respect to these teams who are making clean, real food more exciting. Their win lifts the entire category. Who else is shaking things up right now? Drop them below - I want to root for them too! Nick Wiseman shared thisI have looked up to Ali for years. She's been a guiding voice to so many CPG brands trying to find their footing. So grateful to be able to share the Little Sesame story together!Nick Wiseman shared thisWhen we talk about building moats around #cpg businesses - we usually mean one of the following: ⭐ vertical integration or some #supplychain advantage ⭐ a REAL community that gives the brand value and loyalty ⭐ a product that is truly differentiated So it was fun to interview Nick Wiseman, #CEO and #cofounder of Little Sesame - a brand that has ALL 3 - on #inthesauce #podcast this week. They make their own hummus with regenerative chickpeas. They've built Little Sesame out of a hoppin' restaurant in DC. They make it fluffy and fresh with inclusions like chili crisp and caramelized onion. Great convo - helpful to #emerging brands, and a beautiful story of an excellent product. Listen anywhere you get your pods!

Nick Wiseman reposted thisNick Wiseman reposted thisI had a fun conversation with Nick Wiseman about building next-gen hummus brand Little Sesame and the interplay between foodservice and CPG as evidenced by the success of omnichannel brands like Rao's, Carbone, and Momofuku. We also talked about leveraging CPG as a force to help shift our ag system towards more sustainable practices as well as the power of brand collabs with FLY BY JING and Tacombi to bring much needed innovation to the hummus category. Check out the full episode linked in the comments!

Nick Wiseman reposted thisNick Wiseman reposted thisAt Beliade, we’re passionate about backing companies that make a real difference—brands like Little Sesame which is setting a new standard with products designed for healthier, more sustainable living. Their new Little Sesame Kids Hummus Cups, launched nationwide at Whole Foods Market, are a game-changer for parents who want wholesome, organic snacks for their children, free of preservatives and harmful additives. What makes this company so special? Little Sesame sources organic, regeneratively grown chickpeas from American farmers in Montana, helping to fight climate change while supporting soil health. And it’s inspiring to see government initiatives like USDA grants backing these kinds of efforts. This type of support is essential for companies dedicated to building a healthier America. Private equity has an important role in amplifying these kinds of companies—fueling innovation and scaling ideas that prioritize the well-being of our children and our planet. We’re proud to be part of this mission and to support brands with a vision as bold as Little Sesame’s. Nick Wiseman reposted thisNick Wiseman reposted thisLunch today (just because I’m excited I had the time to pack it), is just a few of my favorite things…. But seriously, these two brands represent so much good (and I don’t just mean flavor). Haven's Kitchen makes healthy and delicious eating easy with the delicious aiolis & sauces. Founder Alison Cayne is a powerhouse: podcast host, mentor, continuous learner, and all around lovely and inspring person (and has been a terrific support to LEAP as a speaker and mentor). Little Sesame has managed to take the seriously tasty hummus from their DC restaurant, and package it so that us hummus fans can enjoy it coast to coast. Co-Founder Nick Wiseman represented Little Sesame as a member of our 2023 LEAP: On the Verge cohort, and spoke during one of our 2024 On the Verge sessions. I am truly inspired by Nick’s business acumen and commitment to supporting regenerative agriculture. #wholefoodsmarket #emergingbrands #clearlynotafoodstylist #norafoodphotographer #localandemergingacceleratorprogram

Nick Wiseman reposted thisIncreasing the experimental capacity of farmers is essential. And regenerative brands do just that. So while they're not a silver bullet - they’re an essential piece of the puzzle.Nick Wiseman reposted thisConventional farming is safe. 🌾 Government crop insurance programs, traditional ag lending, and stable market demand all contribute to the safety net farmers have when farming conventionally. But what happens when farmers want to change how they farm and experiment with their land? 🏳️ They put themselves at risk of losing it all. So “increasing the experimental capacity of farmers” is essential to grow the amount of land being farmed regeneratively. And regenerative brands do just that. 🧩 So while they are not a silver bullet - they’re an essential piece of the puzzle. Look no further than Little Sesame as another example that proves that. Nick Wiseman liked thishalf a decade of Snaxshot called for new branding I built my dream job that is a combination of insights, community, creative and consulting. I've gotten to work with the biggest food and beverage companies around the world, I've been the youngest speaker at the The Wall Street Journal Global Food Forum, featured in countless media around the world and being profiled by the The New York Times for my work. Nick Wiseman liked thisNick Wiseman liked thisAfter 13+ years of bootstrapping, I'm excited to announce Farm To People's first outside investment, $5 million led by Elly Truesdell and Hallie Bonnar of New Fare Partners alongside a list of founders and operators I've admired for a long time, listed below. Read more in yesterday's The New York Times, linked in the comments. Farm to People was never meant to be a different grocery delivery company. It's infrastructure for a food system where a small farm can actually make a living. The Times put it as our ambition, and they're right: a new economy for small farms to succeed. That's what happens when the quality of the farmers market meets the ease of modern e-commerce. From my parents' studio apartment on the Upper West Side to a new 40,000 square foot warehouse coming soon in The Bronx, it's been a helluva ride. Thank you David Robinov for being a pioneer in the natural foods movement since before I was born and for making this all possible. And Anina von Haeften for your partnership and vision every day! To every customer, farmer, maker, driver, packer, buyer, and team member who got us here: thank you. And we're just getting started. If you want to build this with us, we're hiring. It's hard work. If you're ready to make an impact, reach out. Here's the incredible list of investors who share our vision of the future and inspire us: Gary Hirshberg (and Ethan, Alex, Danielle) founder of Stonyfield; Walter Robb former co-CEO of Whole Foods; David Barber of Blue Hill At Stone Barns; Fred Wilson (and Joanne & Josh) founder of Union Square Ventures; Martin Dolfi, Bill Schultz and Whitney Williams from Beliade Consumer Partners; Jean-Francois Jeff Déchant (and Felix Dechant, our COO, who makes FtP run every day); Jeff Sterrett & Jamie Sterrett; Stephen Williamson, John Charles Hanley & Daisy Bowes Williamson; Todd Lachman; Tom Gellert & Andrew Gellert; Sam Slover; Jeff Samberg; Gabi Lewis; and more. Nick Wiseman liked thisNick Wiseman liked thisWell, apparently, I don't know how LinkedIn works. 😄 I updated my profile today without realizing LinkedIn would send a notification to my network, so my ROA announcement didn't quite get the moment it deserves. Let me try again: I'm incredibly excited to be joining the Regenerative Organic Alliance Board! What draws me to ROA is its belief that building a better food system requires looking at the whole picture: soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness. I'm honored to support an organization helping shape the future of food and looking forward to the work ahead.

Nick Wiseman liked thisNick Wiseman liked thisSome projects 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 make you hungry. We build a lot of commercial foodservice facilities. The largest project in TEEL Construction, Inc.'s books is a kitchen in Dallas, TX (starting later this year) and we're currently completing another one 6,000 miles away in Maui, Hawaii. Kitchens, commissaries, restaurants and production spaces; these are places where great brands bring their products to life. Recently, we completed Little Sesame’s state-of-the-art production facility, and I got to tour the operation. It was incredible. The space, the process, the attention to detail, the energy of the team, all of it. And if you haven’t had their hummus yet, you’re missing out. Big time. #BuiltToServe

The Open Food Company is bolstering its leadership bench as it kicks off a $3 million seed round to scale its “radically transparent” CPG platform. 💼📈 The open-source holding company has appointed former CAVA Group CFO Jonathan Clark as fractional CFO and tapped creative veteran Matthew Langille as strategic advisor. Clark, who previously guided Honest Tea through its acquisition by Coca-Cola, will steer financial strategy and fundraising as the company eyes omnichannel expansion and new brand launches beyond its debut product, Harry’s Famous Sauce. Founded in 2024 by Renée Guilbault and actor Harry Hamlin, the company positions transparency as a competitive advantage—publishing detailed testing and nutrition data alongside its retail rollout at Gelson’s. With plans to expand into marinades, dressings, spices and more, the next chapter is already taking shape. 🌿🥫 Link to the full story in the first comment below 👇 #CPG #FoodIndustry #StartupFunding #Leadership #FoodTransparency #BetterForYou #RetailExpansion

This is an excellent summary from Troy Hooper on what’s happening in the restaurant industry with declining traffic and sales declines. As Troy mentions, everyone needs to be prepared to stop the bleeding as much as possible now so that we’re prepared to take advantage when the market turns positive in 2026.

The U.S. wine and spirits market has plummeted from its pandemic highs. At-home consumption pulled demand forward, and what followed has been a reset marked by softer volumes, rising inventories, and a consumer who is drinking less and thinking more about health. Spirits have been more resilient, but even there growth is slowing. Wine is the clear laggard, losing relevance across multiple price points. The issue is generational. Gen Z and Generation Alpha are not adopting alcohol the way Baby Boomers did. Wellness, moderation, and alternative social rituals are reshaping the landscape. Penfolds sees that clearly. This move is about customer acquisition, not brand awareness. Pop Icon Troye Sivan brings cultural relevance, not just reach. He connects the brand to a younger, global audience that lives at the intersection of music, fashion, and digital culture. But wine still carries signals of formality and occasion that don’t naturally align with how younger consumers engage.

Searching for growth? General Mills has announced plans to boldly go after the over 55s in their quest to increase volumes. While much of CPG chases 18-45s or the latest wellness fad, General Mills is placing its bets on three under-the-radar, high-leverage consumer groups: - Adults aged 55 +, who account for nearly half of U.S. households and have enormous spending power. - Consumers using GLP-1 medications (up to 12%+ of U.S. adults), who’re eating less but seeking more protein, more functional nutrients, smaller portions. - Hispanic shoppers, where General Mills plans to ramp up innovation and engagement by ~40% in FY26. This move takes product renovation in new directions - redesigning products and formats to match how people now live, eat and feel. They’re innovating for smaller households (smaller pack sizes), higher-protein need states, functional nutrition and not just indulgence. And this isn’t an isolated move. It’s part of a broader CPG reboot as the absence of growth looms. Important discussion shared by PeakBridge on ultra-processed foods and the clean-label movement that is growing louder. But one surprising reality is rarely discussed: Most “vanilla flavor” used in food products is not real vanilla. Not because companies don’t want to use it — but because natural vanilla supply has historically been too fragile, volatile, and limited to support global demand. For decades, the industry filled this gap with synthetic flavor systems. If the food industry is truly moving toward cleaner labels and real ingredients, then the ingredient supply chains behind them must evolve as well. At Vanilla Vida, our mission is to help enable that shift by building a scalable and reliable natural vanilla supply chain — combining controlled farming and industrial curing to bring stability to a historically unpredictable crop. #TheVanillaParadox

Coffee companies continue to trade at a premium — often well above the restaurant sector median. From Starbucks with a $90B+ market cap to the newly public Black Rock Coffee Bar, investors are rewarding the category’s combination of brand power, daypart diversification, and asset-light scalability. But the headline numbers obscure the nuance. Even within coffee, performance varies widely. Same category, different stories — some are growing fast but chasing margins; others command consistency but face saturation; and new entrants are yet to prove their brand. The spread reflects not hype, but differences in system sophistication, throughput, and capital discipline. Premium multiples in coffee aren’t just about caffeine (or beverage) culture — they’re a proxy for planning and execution. As valuations diverge, investors are leaning harder on diligence to separate durable growth from over-caffeinated projections. For emerging brands, understanding what drives those multiples — and engineering the systems behind them — will define who becomes the next Starbucks, and who stays local. #restaurants #valuation #coffee
