Scott Kauffman reposted thisScott Kauffman reposted thisAmerica’s greatest export isn’t software, weapons, or entertainment. It’s the millionaire, and most of them are manufactured in a workshop with no Instagram presence: the public university. It’s a factory that takes in unremarkable kids and turns out small business owners who sponsor the Little League team. America’s secret sauce isn’t genius, but access. I was an unremarkable kid from a lower-middle-class home in 1970s California, and the state decided, for reasons that made no sense at the time, to bet on me anyway.

Scott Kauffman reposted thisScott Kauffman reposted thisAs an undergraduate English major decades ago, I read most of the "classics" as defined by Western academia. One of my all time favorites is Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. And as a Broadway musical fan and community theater musician, I must have seen the show "Man of La Mancha" dozens of times. The story is brilliant, magical and still relevant 400 years after publication. Why the personal history lesson? Because in the age of A.I, I find that I have unofficially assumed the role of Don Quixote himself, traveling the world on my white horse, romantically righting wrongs, defending the helpless and more than occasionally, tilting at A.I. windmills. So imagine my heartrate this morning when I read a NYTimes article on the "pitfalls of using A.I. at work." I was shocked to learn that more and more, companies are designating A.I. agents as bona fide "employees," even including them in their organizational charts. Giving them names like Scout. Crazy right? The theory is that it increases productivity and puts their company on the cutting edge to create official org charts with A.I. bots. But researchers have discovered a pitfall. It turns out that managers tend to vet documents less carefully when told that an A.I. "employee" had produced them. They seem to believe technology delivers perfect results and in fact, missed errors that other managers caught when told they were vetting the work of a human. Pretty scary. And I learned another alarming fact: A.I. models tend to favor incorporating work produced by A.I. So LLM's have an anti-human bias. It turns out that when LLM's scrape and consume data, they are more inclined to infuse A.I. generated content than human writing. So, what does this have to do with the financial communications industry where I have spent nearly 45 years toiling and problem solving for all sorts of clients? My Don Quixote alter ego screams - EVERYTHING. The idea that human instinct, strategy, experience and deliverables are discounted by A.I. models - which are increasingly being used by corporate America to make decisions - is worth unsheathing my sword and racing towards that technology windmill in the distance. And that we are now designating A.I. agents as official employees on corporate org charts? To portray innovative branding? I'm all for incorporating Claude and Chat in my work day. It absolutely helps. But if A.I. agents are now being designated full-time employees and this work is not being vetted as closely as a human counterpart...with clear recognition that mistakes are still pretty widespread across A.I. content...then we might be want to pause for a minute. And remember that clients hire us for our intellect, our failings and successes, our relationships and maybe to some degree our irrational selves...which in conjunction with A.I's firepower, delivers that best of all possible worlds. Hold on - that's a line from Voltaire's Candide...a different classic.

AI token spend, building life-saving tech, non-traditional career paths, championship basketball, the future of civilization and the Beatles. Despite the range of topics, the conversation kept circling back to family, relationships, and not taking time with the people we care about for granted. Thank you, Scott Kauffman, Gene Linetsky, and Jian Jet Zhu for an unforgettable evening. #Revelo

Scott Kauffman shared thisGreat to be working with Justin Lewis again. Welcome!Scott Kauffman shared thisI’m joining NOLA AI as a strategic advisor. Most AI today is fast, fluent, and confident — but it doesn’t know what it knows, why it knows it, or when it should be uncertain. As AI moves into domains where consequences matter, that gap becomes the central challenge. This piece is about why the future of artificial intelligence must move beyond probability toward trust — built on epistemic awareness, persistent knowledge, and inspectable reasoning. Scott Kauffman shared thisThe AI Bubble: Are we repeating the mistakes of 1999? If you feel like the AI hype is disconnecting from reality, you’re not alone. I’ve led companies through a few technology inflection points—from the birth of ad-tech to the dot-com bubble. What I see today echoes the late 90s: immense investment, staggering valuations, and a pervasive belief that scale alone guarantees success. But we now know the truth: 95% of enterprise GenAI pilots fail to generate measurable financial returns. Why? Because the current Large Language Model (LLM) architecture is fundamentally flawed. It excels at sophisticated pattern-matching, yet routinely fails at common sense, reasoning, and context. This "jagged intelligence" leads to the persistent "hallucination problem" that undermines enterprise adoption. For small and medium businesses (SMBs), this creates an impossible gap. They need the efficiency AI promises, but they can't afford the billions in R&D or the risk of unreliable "black box" systems. The correction is happening now. Just as the internet decentralized media, algorithmic efficiency is democratizing intelligence. At NOLA AI, we started with a simple truth: fix the math at inception. Our innovation, Atomic Speed, is the verifiable proof that smaller, smarter models are the future. It's a plug-and-play solution that accelerates training and fine-tuning, dramatically improving capital efficiency for anyone building specialized AI. We’re shifting the competitive advantage from "who can spend the most" to "who can train the smartest and most efficiently". We need to move past the speculative dream of a trillion-dollar cluster and focus on the real, verifiable ROI that specialized AI can deliver today. ➡️ Visit Atomizer.ai (live now) to see the hard data: how we achieve a 75.6% reduction in model training overhead. That’s how we turn the AI hype into reliable, measurable business value. #AIBubble #GenAI #SLM #FutureOfWork #EnterpriseAI #AtomicSpeed

Scott Kauffman shared thisWe're just getting started.Scott Kauffman shared thisWe are excited to announce that coming soon, the ATOMIZER will be available for beta users. This no-code solution to fine-tuning custom AI models is perfect for those interested in exploring custom AI along with advanced options for seasoned AI engineers. It takes less than 5 minutes to set up your account and have your first training up and running! As a company we strive to lower the barrier to entry for powerful custom AI solutions. Our mission is to reduce not only the complexity of fine-tuning AI, but also to make it affordable to businesses and individuals who may otherwise not have the hardware or resources required for common training platforms. Instead of simply “adding more compute”, we’ve rolled back the clock to fix fundamental issues with the status-quo of model building. Starting with ATOMIC Speed, we have drastically reduced the amount of data required without sacrificing model accuracy, leading to faster and cheaper training. Using ATOMIC Speed you can train 4x faster and up to 50% cheaper. Training and inference cost just $1 per million tokens, and you’ll need fewer tokens to reach the same model quality! Get ready for the next big innovation in the AI space. Stay tuned for more updates!

Scott Kauffman reacted on thisScott Kauffman reacted on thisMichael Lisovetsky has exited three companies before the age of 33. Most recently, he sold JUICE, an agency that helps brands grow profitably through paid media. Before starting JUICE, Michael was coming off the acquisition of his previous company, and after a year, he was ready to build another company. At the time, he kept getting referrals from brands spending money on marketing without the growth support they needed. And while running his past companies, Michael hired agencies himself and was consistently disappointed by both their service and their results. So when his co-founder, Troy Osinoff, saw the same demand on his own, the two decided to create the agency Michael had always wanted to hire. Over eight years, JUICE went from two founders taking inbound projects to a full agency with its own team and client base. But by then, both founders were excited about new opportunities they wanted to pursue. So when they reconnected with an old partner, selling felt like the right way to close the JUICE chapter. When it comes to an exit, Michael believes you should build a company someone would want to buy before you actually want to sell. Buyers are ultimately evaluating risk, and a business that depends on its founder brings down valuations and terms. So, he recommends focusing on a strong team and repeatable processes that let the business run without you. And he believes your strongest negotiating position is being willing to keep the business. Michael, thank you for sharing your story and lessons with us!

Scott Kauffman reacted on thisScott Kauffman reacted on thisThere are people we meet through the course of our careers who make a difference. Some contribute to our professional development. Others become friends. Still others leave you with a memory that lasts a lifetime. A few months after I left BBDO Worldwide Los Angeles to complete my law degree, a letter arrived in the mail. Inside was a note and a check that was entirely unexpected. Bob Spofford sent that note. He was my up-line manager. I had left BBDO before annual bonuses were awarded, so I didn’t expect I would receive mine. But there in my mailbox was my bonus check and this note from Bob. He didn’t have to send it. He didn’t need to give me my bonus. My exit to complete my law degree could have closed the door to my time at BBDO. But Bob did a good thing. The right thing. A thing that’s stuck with me throughout my life. I’m sharing this because I think we need more Bob Spoffords in the world. Managers who let us know when we’ve done a good job. Who take the time to acknowledge our efforts. Who go beyond what’s required and do what’s needed to recognize the value of their employees — even when they’re not employees anymore. Here’s to you, Bob Spofford.

Scott Kauffman reacted on thisBeginning of something very exciting.Scott Kauffman reacted on thisThis morning we announced the initial closing of financing intended to fund the largest acquisition in our history. Two things about it are worth knowing. The institutions funding the deal agreed to the valuation, and they receive preferred equity only if we complete the Nasdaq listing we said we’d pursue. Our existing lenders also exchanged their old notes into the new deal. They chose to be part of what comes next. An initial closing isn’t the whole financing, and a listing is a pursuit, not a promise. But the plan we shared in July is moving, and today’s closing is a big part of that. But the moment people will remember from his final game had nothing to do with a pitch. In the final start of his career, his daughter Genevieve ran to the mound to give him a big hug before he was taken out. Manager A.J. Hinch had planned the mound trip with Verlander's wife, Kate Upton. Verlander said afterward he had no clue it was going to happen. Then he left the field grasping his daughter's hand as the Comerica Park crowd gave him a standing ovation. As a father of only daughters, this one hit me hard. Twenty-one years of preparation, discipline, and pressure, and at the very end, the person who walked him off the field was a 7-year-old in her dad's jersey. That's the scoreboard that matters. Rachel got engaged. Natalie is loving her Sophomore year at Ohio State. Ellie just got her license is a Sophomore in High School and is loving FFA. Here's what I've learned: 𝑾𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝒘𝒆'𝒓𝒆 𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒅𝒂𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒕𝒉 𝒊𝒔, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚'𝒓𝒆 𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒖𝒔 𝒕𝒐𝒐. Founders, executives, builders: we spend so much energy chasing the next milestone. Close the deal. Hit the number. Scale the company. All of it matters. But none of it walks you off the field at the end. Be present. Show up. Let them see you cry. That's the real Breakthru. To every dad of daughters: hug them a little longer today.

Scott Kauffman reacted on thisScott Kauffman reacted on thisLouisiana ranks as the least healthy state in the nation. 1.1 million people live in our rural parishes. Rates of diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease are among the highest anywhere in the country. Obviously this is a tragedy…. We hope change is coming - it’s why Louisiana just secured over $200M in the first year of the federal Rural Health Transformation Program - and why the state carved out $20M/year, for 5 years, specifically to invest in rural health startups. More than 200 companies pitched for checks between $250K and $3 million. And in future years the state is considering taking equity - if the companies win, the returns go back into healthcare. In rural Louisiana, appropriate care can be a 2 or 3 hour drive away. So the startup shapes that matter here are specific. -- Better remote communication with providers -- Home monitoring that reports to a care team. -- Records that follow the patient instead of dying with each departing doctor. -- Proactive human outreach for people who have nobody checking on them. The hardest version of the problem lives here - which makes this the best possible lab for solving it. Be in touch with us if you are working in these areas!

Institutions don’t fail all at once. They fail when design can’t keep up with change. In Davos this week, I’ll be joining the inaugural gathering of the Institutional Research Network, a new initiative convened by The Digital Economist. The focus is not another set of conversations but the patient work of connecting research, markets, and governance so ideas can take institutional form and hold under real-world pressure. Some initiatives are about visibility. This one is about durability. #Davos2026 #InstitutionalDesign #IRN #TheDigitalEconomist
