Arts Grants for Queens: Flushing Town Hall will award artists and arts organizations based in Queens to produce arts and culture projects to be presented in the borough in order to enrich and enliven the community. Selected individual artists will receive $5,000 while organizations can receive anywhere between $1,000 - $7,500. GO Queens Grant: Flushing Town Hall will award forty-six $20,000 grants over two-years to Queens-based performing arts and culture nonprofit organizations with annual operating budgets under $250,000. These unrestricted funds can be used for General Operating Support (GOS) to help the granted organization grow. 📅 Submit by December 1st, 2026 at 5PM ET. sonia park reposted thissonia park reposted this🔄 Today New York City Economic Development Corporation announced the launch of the Circular Construction Hub at MADE Bush Terminal, a new partnership with Our Temenos designed to help New York City test what it takes to scale circular construction. The Hub is a one-year pilot focused on the storage, redistribution, reuse, and resale of construction materials, creating a pathway to keep valuable resources in circulation rather than sending them to landfill. One of the most exciting aspects of this work is that the Hub will allow us to learn by doing - it's intentionally structured as a minimum viable system of infrastructure to collect real world data on material flows, storage needs, utilization rates, transactions, and market demand to understand what infrastructure will support projects implementing circular strategies. Since launching NYCEDC's Circular Design & Construction Guidelines, we've been hearing consistent feedback from industry partners: if we want material reuse to become commonplace, we need the supply chain connections that make it practical for project teams to participate. The playtest starts on October 12. If you are interested in being part of the inaugural cohort, please sign up at birda.day! Your feedback and commentary will help shape the game experience for the public. And if you have a parent, family member or friend who is super into birding or getting into birding (we all have one or will eventually become one...) please feel free to send birda.day to them. This game is designed for bird enthusiasts and we are working with a renowned ornithologist (a scientist who studies birds) who is our advisor. 2 years ago I left Snap Inc. because I loved working with game studios so much that I went and got a whole Master's degree in Game Design at NYU. sonia park reacted on thissonia park reacted on thisGreat to be part of the launch of the third round of the Nyc Economic Development Corp NYC Mass Timber Studio, which this year is focused on accelerating housing development. I joined a terrific group of industry and City partners for a discussion on what it will take to build the #workforce and #supplychainecosystem needed to scale mass timber in New York City. One of my biggest takeaways from the conversation was that scaling mass timber is about much more than the material itself. It requires an ecosystem around it: a workforce with the right skills, strong partnerships across industry and government, a supply chain that can support greater adoption, and financing and delivery models that allow projects to move from one-off examples to something repeatable. I was particularly glad to bring the financing perspective to that conversation. Through NYC’s #C-PACE program, eligible projects can access long-term financing for energy and sustainability improvements, including financing for eligible #embodied-carbon measures. That creates another tool for project teams considering lower-carbon building materials and approaches, including mass timber, and is a great example of how financing can help turn innovative design and construction strategies into viable projects. That connection between policy, project economics, and private capital is a major focus of my work at the @NYC Mayor’s Office of Climate & Environmental Justice. It was great to have the opportunity to discuss how financing tools like C-PACE can be part of the broader ecosystem needed to advance more sustainable buildings in New York City. Thank you to NYCEDC, and especially Nicole Spina, Gizem Karagoz, Annaliese Tucci, and Sam Jung, for bringing together such a thoughtful group and for inviting me to be part of the conversation. Looking forward to seeing what this next cohort brings.

sonia park reacted on thissonia park reacted on thisAt Gotham Foundry’s Climate Week symposium, NYFIC and Gotham Foundry co-presented the third session, “Turbocharging the New York Innovation Pathway from City to State,” exploring what it takes to bring new materials from the lab to the market. Product & Marketing Director Susan Easton opened the session with an overview of NYFIC’s work connecting New York’s farms, researchers, mills, manufacturers, designers, and brands. She highlighted the grants and shared resources helping promising materials move beyond individual pilots and into a stronger statewide textile supply chain. The panel, moderated by Maria Gotsch of the Partnership Fund for New York City and Kelley Kizzier of the Bezos Earth Fund, brought together Stephanie Downs of UNCAGED Innovations, Emily Laurilliard of Empire State Development’s NYSTAR division, sonia park of New York City Economic Development Corporation, Aradhita Parasrampuria of Cellsense, and Dr. R. Helen Zha, PhD, NYFIC Associate Director and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Associate Professor. Together, they explored the steps between a successful material pilot and a product that can be made at scale: manufacturing partners, the right funding, brand adoption, and stronger connections between New York City and the rest of the state. Thank you to Theanne Schiros, Gotham Foundry co-director and NYFIC consortium member through FIT, for co-developing the session, and to our moderators and panelists for a thoughtful discussion about building New York’s sustainable textile economy.
