Todd Lachman posted thisSovos Brands was grounded in an insight – challenger brands were gaining share from the largest brands in the store. However, large consumer products companies were built to grow billion dollar brands, not scale challenger brands. It was clear to me that that there was an opportunity to create a new company to unlock the growth potential of smaller, on-trend brands. Sovos Brands was built-for-purpose with the talent, capabilities and culture to acquire, integrate and grow one-of-a-kind brands - highly differentiated and authentic, with delicious, high-quality products, all supporting a premium positioning. If Large CPG was Food 1.0, Sovos Brands would be Food 2.0. We started with our simple vision and six people working out of my house in 2016. Through courage and a fair amount of sweat, the idea became a reality with our first acquisition in early 2017 in partnership with Advent International. I am incredibly proud that we built a company from scratch that delivered over $1 billion in annual net sales; was consistently one of the fastest growing food companies of scale; grew the Rao’s franchise 10X since acquisition to $775M in sales; and delivered double-digit growth every quarter since we went public in September 2021. Last week, we closed the sale of Sovos Brands to Campbell's for $2.7B, delivering a 92% return from our IPO price. I am even more proud that we created a company where people were excited to come to work; a company that strived to be horizontal versus vertical; a company that championed courage, tenacity, candor, and an obsession with growth. And a company where everyone could bring their true authentic selves to work every day. Building Sovos Brands over these last seven years has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and remarkable experience. I am incredibly proud of all that we accomplished together, which would not have been possible had it not been for our employees, business partners, Board of Directors and Advent International. I want to personally thank my incredibly talented Executive Team – Chris Hall, Kirk Jensen, Lisa O'Driscoll, Risa Cretella, E. Yuri Hermida, Isobel Jones, Tom Lee, Katie Gvazdinskas, and James Potter; my mentor and Board Chair Bill Johnson, along with our dedicated Board of Directors - Jeff Case, David Roberts, Valarie Sheppard, Neha Mathur, Tamer Abuaita, and Mala S.. I also want to thank my children Kyle, Paul and Isabella along with my wife, best friend and trusted advisor Christine. Their love has fueled me and kept me grounded. Serving as the CEO of Sovos Brands has been the ride of a lifetime. While I look back with pride about all we have accomplished, I have strong confidence in the future. The business is in the talented hands of Mark Clouse, Campbell’s, and the many Sovos Brands employees that joined their team. I look forward to seeing the next chapter of growth for our brands.

Todd Lachman shared thisI’m thrilled to officially welcome Birch Benders to the Sovos Brands portfolio today. Birch Benders is one of the fastest growing pancake and waffle mix brands. With its better-for-you product line, which includes organic, keto, and paleo offerings to name a few, the brand fits perfectly with Sovos’ mission to acquire and build a portfolio of one-of-a-kind brands that bring consumers delicious food for joyful living. With this acquisition, we are now over 600 employees, and in seven large categories – sauces, yogurt, frozen entrées, pancake & waffle mixes, frozen waffles, soups, and pasta. We can’t wait to take the Birch Benders brand into its next chapter of growth, and bring these delicious products to more households across America. Welcome to the team, Birch Benders. #sovosbrands #deliciousfood #joyfulliving

Todd Lachman shared thisLong before the phrase ‘essential worker’ became tied to COVID-19, our employees working on the front lines were already the heroes of our industry. In my article, Essential Gratitude, I thought it was important to recognize these heroes, and also to explore the question of what actions and behaviors have become essential. #sovosbrands #essentialemployees #cpg

Todd Lachman posted thisAt Sovos Brands, we’re grateful to work in an essential industry and be able to lend a helping hand to those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe we have a responsibility to show up for our communities, and are doing so in the best way we know how -- by sharing our food, and bringing families together over meals, even as we practice social distancing. We’ve been working with our brands to develop creative ways to give back to our communities, whether that’s through product donations, giveaways for essential workers, or financial contributions to nonprofits. Rao’s Homemade recently launched #Sauce4Cause, an Instagram Live cooking series in partnership with Jersey Cares to provide meals for families in need. Other projects in the works include a Rao’s partnership with iHeartMedia and De'Longhi Americas North to give away a month’s supply of Rao’s + a De Longhi convection oven to twenty essential workers; and noosa is making yoghurt donations to the Poudre School District to serve local families, with more programs to come. From the first responders on the front lines, to the moms and dads juggling work and homeschooling, we salute all of you, and thank you for letting us provide the delicious food to feed you along the way. #sovosbrands #deliciousfood #joyfulliving

Todd Lachman liked thisTodd Lachman liked thisI’ve been relatively quiet on Linkedin since I stepped down as CEO of Levi Strauss & Co. — but I’m back! Here’s what I’ve been up to. I’m in my third year of teaching the marketing required course to first year MBA students at Harvard Business School. I also sit on several boards: HP, Pinterest, E.L.F. BEAUTY, and lululemon Athletica. And I’ve spent the last couple of years writing a book. Safe to say, I like to stay busy! But I didn’t get here alone. I had mentors and colleagues who taught me how to build a team, run a business in a financially disciplined way, take calculated risks, and so much more. To me leadership comes down to serving others — helping people do their best work and creating the conditions for them to succeed. Sharing more here is one way I hope to do just that.

Todd Lachman liked thisTodd Lachman liked thisIt's been a few weeks, but the incredible feelings are still with me...one of the best business events I've ever been a part of in over 40 years of work: CarGurus Take our Parents to Work Day in Boston. Three highlights for me: 1-being able to share with 250+ parents what a special culture we have, and how much better we seek to be in the "How" we get our work done. 2-the good fortune of being able to tell so many parents of our great staff members how special their sons or daughters are, how much they've contributed to our success, and and how proud we are to be their teammates. 3-by far the most important, was being able to introduce my mom, Mugs Zales, to staff members and guests, and to tell them that my biggest learning in life in how to treat people comes directly from her parenting. At almost 91, she had as much energy meeting the team and parents as anyone in the room. How fortunate that Jason Trevisan and the Parents ERG planned such a meaningful day-so grateful.

Todd Lachman liked thisTodd Lachman liked thisI make a practice of rereading my journal toward the end of December. It's a way for me to reflect on the past year, recognize the milestones I’ve hit or missed, and double down on my purpose and goals for the year ahead. What stands out as I look back on 2025? It's this: RRA Artemis' groundbreaking year-long women CEO accelerator program is working. How do I know? During the program’s first cohort, one in four women moved into materially expanded roles, including stepping into a public company CEO role, enterprise CEO position, or promoted to a bigger role in the C-suite. And we’ve only just gotten started. At a time when the number of women leading Fortune 500 companies - or the equivalent in Europe - has stalled at around 10%, Artemis is proving that change is possible. People often ask me, ‘What's the Artemis difference?’ Here’s what I say: We help women create their own roadmap, on their own terms, with their leadership purpose at the heart of it. Specifically, we help them avoid what we call “management by stealth, that exhausting practice of hiding who you really are in order to get ahead. We teach them how to amplify what they're already doing effortlessly and brilliantly that correlates with the highest-performing CEOs. It’s an intense experience that builds on our firm’s expertise in CEO succession and leadership development, and involves an unparalleled team of academics, coaches, and consultants who are deeply invested in the future of leadership. The world doesn't need more leaders who all think the same way. We need leaders who can navigate through today’s rapidly changing business landscape. A recent RRA survey found that 74% of business leaders believe their organizations will cease to exist without fundamental transformation. That means leadership must transform. https://lnkd.in/gKyMVRMv As someone who has been advising companies on CEO and board leadership for decades and thrives on problem solving, I know this moment is an opportunity to strengthen the future of business and organizations everywhere by opening the aperture of what breakthrough leadership looks like, today and tomorrow. Our vision for Artemis remains audacious: Double the number of women CEOs at public companies in the next five to 10 years. After year one, I'm more convinced than ever we'll get there.

Todd Lachman liked thisTodd Lachman liked thisAs I reflect on 2025, I have been reminded of two "truths" in building a business: 1) People and Culture are everything! When you have that right, it's builds so much confidence and you can truly enjoy the ride! I am so thankful for our team at Pet Honesty, every person truly cares about each other and is passionate about our mission of helping pet parents help their pets live happier and healthier lives, so they can enjoy more moments together! 2) Your products must be delicious and effective. You can't ever cut corners on product quality or ensuring you have the absolute best formulation. Consumers must LOVE your products, if they do, they will be your biggest fans and recommend your products to others. Every successful brand I have ever worked on put people and products as top priorities. I couldn't be any more energized to start 2026 with our team at Pet Honesty and continue the journey to building something truly special! #pethonesty #thehonestdifference

Todd Lachman liked thisTodd Lachman liked thisLast Friday, I was honored by Progressive Grocer as their 2025 CPG Trailblazer. What a moment! This acknowledgement was so meaningful to me because it honors my very deliberate intention to create my own path that was first, right for my family and then right for my career. I was asked to share remarks with the accomplished audience of talented leaders and reflected on a few key leadership lessons: 1 - When we are afraid, especially, when we’re afraid, we must bet on ourselves. 2 - Great leadership isn’t about being the smartest person in the room, it’s about asking good questions to bring out the brilliance in others. 3 - People won’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. The surprise of the night was getting to bump into and spend time with Sandy Douglas who I was privileged to work for during my time at Coca-Cola who actually taught me point number 2 about asking good questions. What was most thrilling for me was to get the opportunity to publicly thank my wonderful husband R. Amadeus Mason and 3 adult children, Jaedon Mason Hailey Mason Chelsea Mason who all flew to Orlando to support me - they’ve been such an integral part of my journey and an important part of my “why”. And now I’d like to thank the amazing Lipton Teas and Infusions Team that I left in July, especially, those who were with me during that first eventful year, Nathalie Roos Ruben Pannevis Pierre-Andre TERISSE Bruno LAINE Karen Owen Taisa Hansen Wendela van Uchelen Gareth Mead Abhiroop Chuckarbutty Farheen Salman Amir Dedrick Harris Matt Bilbrey Sean McDermott Ali Talhouni Michael Labanara Alexander White Amy Nemeth Carol Harris Ginger Cherny, MBA Marc Holzapfel Jase Cowart and our dear partners James Sommerville OBE Julie Lawless and Noel Cottrell. Thank you for challenging me, trusting me, supporting me, and inspiring me - it was absolutely an honor to work with you. 🙏🏾 My hope for all of you is that you continue to make a fantastic impact blazing your own trails.

Bev-alc’s biggest courtroom battles are setting the agenda for 2025—from Fireball to jalapeño tequila. ⚖️ Lab-backed class actions target Diageo’s Casamigos and Don Julio over alleged adulteration, while a separate suit says the 21Seeds deal was undercut by plans for Casamigos Jalapeño. 🍹 A judge also allowed a Fireball malt-labeling case to proceed, and unsealed figures in the FTC’s fight with Southern Glazer’s allege independents paid 12%–67% more than chains. Add a $100M receivership at Uncle Nearest and fresh class actions involving Boston Beer and Constellation, and the litigation map for suppliers, distributors and retailers is shifting fast. 📉 https://lnkd.in/gGQs47ja #BevAlc #Spirits #Beer #ClassAction #Tequila #Distribution #FTC #Whiskey

GENERAL MILLS SELLS MUIR GLEN TO VIOLET FOODS Violet Foods, a portfolio company of Amphora Equity Partners, has acquired Muir Glen from General Mills. Financials undisclosed. General Mills acquired Muir Glenn in 2000 to expand into organic foods. The company divested Food Should Taste Good in 2023 and its North American yogurt business ($2.1B to Groupe Lactalis in 2025). Amphora is a F&B specialist PE firm launched in 2025 by two Brynwood Partners veterans and has been moving aggressively in the tomato category acquiring Don Pepino and Sclafani from B&G Foods Inc.. Another deal on the wave of CPG conglomerates shedding smaller, mature assets while PE firms capitalize on these carve-out opportunities. Similar PE carve-outs are: - General Mills selling Helper and Suddenly to Eagle Family Foods for $610M (2.60x sales) - Conagra Brands selling Chef Boyardee to Brynwood for $600M (1.33x sales) - B&G Foods acquired College Inn & Kitchen Basics for $100M for 2.2x ebitda

The U.S. beer industry is at a turning point. For nearly two decades, the playbook was simple: raise prices annually, protect margins and rely on brand equity to carry the category forward. That model worked… until it didn’t. Today, we’re seeing the consequences across the industry: - Declining volumes - Retailers prioritizing velocity over margin protection - Consumers becoming far more value-conscious Beer has always been an accessible beverage – something meant to be shared at barbecues, concerts and ball games. But over time, repeated price increases pushed the category further away from that core promise. Now the industry is facing a structural reset. In a new piece published by The Beer Connoisseur, I break down: - Why the era of automatic price hikes has ended - What retailers are prioritizing in 2026 resets - How consumer behavior around alcohol and affordability is changing - Why the next cycle of beer growth will be driven by brands that restore balance between price and value At Outlaw Light Beer, we are seeing this shift firsthand as retailers increasingly prioritize brands that can drive real volume and connect with today’s consumer. The industry’s next chapter won’t be defined by pricing power. It will be defined by relevance, accessibility and fairness. ➡️ Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/g3N5bt8C #OutlawLight #TivoliBrewing #BeerIndustry #ConsumerTrends #RetailStrategy

The Protein Boom Continues to Evolve Consumer demand for protein remains strong - and is maturing. Major beverage brands like PepsiCo are responding with innovative offerings such as Muscle Milk, Propel, and Starbucks Coffee protein-enhanced lines. As the category evolves, the focus is shifting from simply highlighting grams of protein per serving to showcasing how these products can deliver real health benefits. Functional formulations - often featuring fibre, key vitamins and minerals, and electrolytes - are driving the move toward precision wellness and personalised nutrition throughout the day. Protein continues to be a top health priority across all demographics - regardless of age, lifestyle, or life stage. According to the latest Innova Market Insights survey in the US, protein is fuelling innovation not just in beverages, but across a broad range of categories including meat and dairy, meat substitutes and dairy alternatives, ready meals and side dishes, sports nutrition (https://lnkd.in/gBNXBx9i). Plant-based proteins are leading the way, thanks to growing consumer interest in healthier, more sustainable options. These ingredients are being used both as enhancements and as complete replacements for animal proteins in plant-based, vegetarian, and vegan products. One standout? Lupin protein isolate - offering exceptional health benefits, leading sustainability credentials, and excellent functional and sensory properties. The U.S. wine category is shrinking. Bonanza Cabernet keeps growing anyway. That's worth looking at if you're in any business where the category is moving against you. U.S. wine sales fell roughly 6% in 2024 (SipSource). Wine Intelligence (acquired by IWSR) forecasts volume dropping at -2% CAGR through 2027, faster than the -1% pace from 2017 to 2022. Regular wine drinkers aged 21-34 fell from 29% of the base to 23% between 2019 and 2023. The board decks all have the same sad category chart right now. And then a $20 Cabernet from the Caymus Vineyards family just keeps taking share. According to Impact Databank, Bonanza launched at 131,000 cases in the U.S. in 2020 and has added 60,000 to 80,000 cases every year since. Double-digit volume growth. The category was falling the whole time. We dug into how. Four things stood out. 1. They priced against the occasion, not the shelf position. Bonanza lives where a weeknight steak dinner lives. Around $20. The slot was crowded but no one held it with real winemaking credibility behind them. Silicon Valley Bank's 2025 State of the Wine Industry report found the top quartile of premium wineries grew revenue 22% in 2024. The value-with-credibility window is open. Has been for a while. 2. They borrowed trust rather than building it cold. Chuck Wagner's name is on it. Decades of Caymus equity, spent carefully on a value tier without pulling the flagship down with it. That's genuinely hard to do. Heritage brands tend to hoard the halo or blow it. Bonanza did neither. 3. They dropped the rules the buyer never cared about. No vintage on the label. No single appellation. They blend across California lots to hit a consistent taste profile every time. Wine people were unhappy about this. Buyers at Costco Wholesale and Total Wine & More were not. The person grabbing a bottle on a Tuesday just wanted it to taste the same as last time. Bonanza built for that person. The consistency thing is probably the most transferable idea here for anyone building a consumer brand outside wine. 4. Supply structure did the real work. Multi-region sourcing means they buy fruit where the value sits each year. Cost structure moves with the market. A Napa-only brand at that price can't follow. The wine world sells vintage variation as romance. The grocery shopper reads it as inconsistency. Bonanza picked a side and moved on. A declining category and a growing brand at the same time. It's not rare, actually. For any team staring at a flat or shrinking market: the category number is an average. Find the occasion that wasn't priced for. Use trust you already have. Ignore the rules your customer never knew existed. What brand in your category is pulling this off? Drop it below. If this is useful, follow me on LinkedIn. We do this regularly across growth, transformation, and value creation. #WineIndustry #BrandGrowth #MarketStrategy #ConsumerInsights

Searching for growth? General Mills has announced plans to boldly go after the over 55s in their quest to increase volumes. While much of CPG chases 18-45s or the latest wellness fad, General Mills is placing its bets on three under-the-radar, high-leverage consumer groups: - Adults aged 55 +, who account for nearly half of U.S. households and have enormous spending power. - Consumers using GLP-1 medications (up to 12%+ of U.S. adults), who’re eating less but seeking more protein, more functional nutrients, smaller portions. - Hispanic shoppers, where General Mills plans to ramp up innovation and engagement by ~40% in FY26. This move takes product renovation in new directions - redesigning products and formats to match how people now live, eat and feel. They’re innovating for smaller households (smaller pack sizes), higher-protein need states, functional nutrition and not just indulgence. And this isn’t an isolated move. It’s part of a broader CPG reboot as the absence of growth looms.
