Delion is a non-playable character in Final Fantasy XIV. He is the founder of the newspaper The Thavnairian Truth, a news tabloid that promotes conspiracy theories. Delion plays a major supporting role in the Hildibrand Manderville quests.

History[]

When Hildibrand Manderville's soulless body went missing, Nashu Mhakaracca found Delion and asked him for help. Delion introduced himself to her and the Warrior of Light while asserting a completely inaccurate reporting of the Final Days. He noted seeing a shady Au Ra flee with a large bag and suspected that man kidnapped Hildibrand. The Warrior of Light followed his lead and encountered the kidnapper preparing to give Hildibrand's body to Dr. Lugae. Delion witnessed the rescue of Hildibrand and his subsequent alien abduction immediately after.

Some time later, after Nashu found a lead on Hildibrand, she approached the Warrior of Light and Delion to explain she believed Hildibrand was on the Moon. Delion, eager for proof of his conspiracy theories, was excited to travel there. Upon arrival, he was shocked by how advanced the Loporrits appeared to be yet relieved that they did not seem to pose a threat. When the party found Hildibrand, they met his companion Pupu. Delion helped Pupu and Hildibrand find a missing Hildibrand clone, meeting Godbert Manderville along the way. Upon returning to Thavnair, Delion confided in the Warrior of Light that he no longer believed the Loporrits were evil, but had misgivings about Pupu. He ran after Hildibrand to continue pursuing his next story.

Delion informed the Warrior of Light that Hildibrand had found a lead on the whereabouts of Pupu's missing friend near Palaka's Stand. During the investigation, Delion met the Gentleman of the Undead and was delighted to learn he read the Thavnairian Truth. Upon investigation, it was a case of mistaken identity: the mysterious figure was that of an undead Mandragora. In the confusion of the search, Brandihild, a flawed Hildibrand clone, was created. Brandihild suggested cross-referencing alien sightings reported in the Thavnairian Truth with Pupu's travels to narrow down the possible locations. The group followed the lead to Garlemald, where they met with a Garlean soldier who recalled shooting down an unidentified flying object. They located the crash site, but only found small pieces of scrap. The group was forced to put the search on hold to rescue Nashu, who was abducted by Dr. Lugae. Returning to Thavnair, the group continued looking for leads.

The group was further sidetracked when Pupu got sick with one of Etheirys's illnesses. Delion aided Hildibrand in finding ingredients for a cure. They were approached by a black market dealer, but Delion noted his prices were extreme. Following Pupu's recovery, and yet another attack by a vengeful Dr. Lugae, the group decided to travel to Old Sharlayan for answers. They made their way to Labyrinthos. While the rest of the group was questioning the workers for sightings of alien craft, Delion sought proof of his conspiracy theories. He was delighted to meet a Sharlayan gleaner who read the Thavnairian truth. The gleaner also gave more details on a UFO sighting. The clue lead them back to Radz-at-Han. Without any more evidence to go on, the group took a break to explore records from a Manderville family heirloom, which Pupu identified as an alien recording device. They learned that the Mandervilles are an alien-Etheriysian hybrid, which would explain their reality-defying physical feats. Later, Delion confided in the Warrior of Light that he had misjudged the Sharlayans, though he still thought Pupu was a threat.

Delion continued to help Hildibrand by questioning people in Yedlihmad on the identity of Pupu's captor and learned of the merchant Vanhudi. Before they could continue, the Warrior of Light once again had to fight off Dr. Lugae, this time with the help of Godbert and Julyan Manderville. Delion accompanied the group to confront Vanhudi, but had to retreat as the Warrior of Light fought the primal Asura. Delion witnessed the reunion between Pupu and his friend, though his friend was vengeful over the entire planet after being mistreated by Vanhudi. Pupu and Brandihild convinced the friend to make peace with the people and Delion discussed with Godbert about the latter's heritage. Delion was shocked to learn that at some point a Manderville was adopted, making Godbert and Hildibrand not alien hybrids. Delion thanked the Warrior of Light for helping him see the truth and debunk the conspiracy theories before running off to investigate the Manderville's superhuman strength.

Personality[]

Delion is a paranoid conspiracy theorist. He appears to think that anything alien, or those interacting with aliens, have ill intent towards the planet, including the Loporrits, Sharlayans, and Pupu. This leads him to create all sorts of theories regarding recent events, no matter how ridiculous they seem to others, such as the Final Days. Delion has a hunger to find what he believes is the truth, overriding any apprehension he may have about confronting his supposed enemies. Unlike most conspiracy theorists, Delion is not so singleminded in his beliefs that he would not change his views. Instead, after seeing things for himself, he discards his conspiracy theories. Delion apreciates people who read his newspaper, which proved helpful in improving his view of the Sharlayans.
