I've downloaded a 200MB file from Google Chrome. It took fairly short time for the download to reach 100% (a couple of minutes), but when it reached 100%, it stays at 100% for a long time before saying that the download is finished and renaming the file extension from .crdownload to the real extension of the file (in this case .zip). Why does the download go fairly quickly before reaching 100% and then stay at 100% for a long time?

Perhaps your anti-virus is checking the file?DavidPostill– DavidPostill ♦2016-08-19 10:37:35 +00:00Commented Aug 19, 2016 at 10:37

@DavidPostill I don't have any anti-virus (I know, it's not safe, but it's not my computer so it's not my decision)Donald Duck is with Ukraine– Donald Duck is with Ukraine2016-08-19 10:46:08 +00:00Commented Aug 19, 2016 at 10:46

We have similar issues, but I don't believe it's any anti-virus program. The download freezes for a much longer time than it would take to do a scan.UncaAlby– UncaAlby2019-10-10 21:01:52 +00:00Commented Oct 10, 2019 at 21:01

Chrome itself is scanning/checking the files.
See:

36I wonder why they don´t display "Scanning for virusses" after completion, instead of acting like the download doesn´t work. It´s confusing for the userMarian Klühspies– Marian Klühspies2019-02-17 17:29:33 +00:00Commented Feb 17, 2019 at 17:29

5Bonus question - why does it refuse to start new downloads while scanning one just finished?aaa90210– aaa902102019-05-30 09:31:48 +00:00Commented May 30, 2019 at 9:31

1@MarianKlühspies I agree that it's erroneous behavior. On top of being confusing, it can take quite a long time on older computers.Hellreaver– Hellreaver2019-11-14 16:59:39 +00:00Commented Nov 14, 2019 at 16:59

Pretty sure this is a bug of some sort in newer versions of Chrome. My computer is definitely not old, and it takes a few minutes sometimes!Dan– Dan2019-11-30 23:24:10 +00:00Commented Nov 30, 2019 at 23:24
