Looking for relaxation and luxury? | Kimpton Aysla Mallorca

If you’re searching for a short trip that offers long lasting rejuvenation, look no further than Kimpton Aysla Mallorca. This boutique coastal retreat hosts a 5-star experience that still feels like a home-away-from home, thanks to its warm design, village-like resort design and welcoming staff. Monique Hall explores the property for Culture Trip.

Just a two and a half hour flight from London and a 25 drive from the airport in Palma, you’ll be in the calming embrace of the hotel in no time. The resort’s main goal? To champion relaxation - a desire evident throughout the resort, but most notably in its world-class spa, the only one of its kind in the whole of Spain (and the only other outpost outside of France).

Despite being part of the Kimpton hotel chain, the resort has its own unique style and feel, something that the hoteliers have clearly prioritised. An incredible level of design detail runs through the hotel, seamlessly merging local style and substance, right down to the hotel’s signature scent. My room was chic and warm, full of unique art pieces and inviting home furnishings. With a huge and wildly comfortable king-size bed and deep bathtub, it was sometimes difficult to leave my digs, but naturally, the hotel’s facilities were calling.

The Spa

Unravel at the resort’s spa, which is split over two floors. The state-of-the-art space features a pool, sauna, steam room, salt cave, and mud bathroom. For treatments, guests can visit the first-ever outpost of the renowned Maison CODAGE Paris spa, offering facial and body treatments ranging from 60 to 210 minutes. During my trip, I opted for a personalised facial.

As I lay on the massage table an immediate wave of zen washed over me. I’d love to be able to tell you what the therapist did, but the moment she started massaging my face with oil, I fell fast asleep - that’s the pure level of relaxation we’re talking about here. After the treatment, I floated down the spa hallway to a small relaxation room where a therapist guided me to create my very own face serum. This bespoke service was extremely thorough, taking into account everything from my skin type to my daily habits to craft a perfectly tailored formula.

As a London city dweller I chose anti-pollution ingredients and cranked up the moisturising levels, in the hope I’d return with something that would make me glow as much as the heavenly treatment.

Wellness

Kimpton Aysla has a gym and a timetable of fitness classes for its guests. I signed up to the Pilates class and enjoyed one of the best classes I'd ever taken. There are also multiple pools dotted around the property for you to get your lengths in. However if you prefer your exercise with a side of exploration, the hotel offers complimentary e-bikes, perfect for zipping down to the Playa Santa Ponsa beach and taking in the beautiful scenery.

If you’re feeling even more adventurous, tackle the Serra de Tramuntana on a cruiser bike. This stunning 90km mountain range forms the northwestern backbone of Mallorca and is UNESCO World Heritage accredited.

Food

The hotel’s main restaurant Saba Bar and Bodega blends Asian and Mediterranean flavours. On my first evening I was blown away by a chef’s table style experience where sushi, gyoza and bulgogi were freshly prepared in front of me.

I also sampled more traditional Spanish dishes during my stay, including classics such as padrón peppers, langoustines and one of the island’s delicacies, Sobrassada, served with a delicious slice of bread and slathered in honey (although I am told this is very much a personal preference addition). For more relaxed dining after a long day swimming and sunbathing, Zayt Pool Bar is the perfect spot. The restaurant prepares wood-fired pizzas and grilled meats and fish, including delicious freshly caught tuna. There’s also a delectable cocktail list available to work your way through.

Breakfast is served in The Orangerie, a conservatory style dining area. It was gorgeous to start the day on the warm terrace with a coffee.

As mentioned, the nearby Playa Santa Ponsa is super easy to get to by bike. There’s ample activities further afield too - I enjoyed a wine tasting at Finca Biniagual in the heart of the Binissalem wine-growing region. During my visit to the historic vineyard I sampled signature wines while nibbling on a selection of delicious Mallorcan tapas. A trip to Palma is also highly recommended; visit the many boutique shops and marvel at the city’s stunning Gothic architecture. Price: Lead-in rate is from 400 euros.
