Craig Melton shared thisThis is very smart. Love it!Craig Melton shared thisStarting Q3 of 2023, Kicksaw will share 50% of our profits back with our employees. We’re incredibly proud of this achievement, but it wasn’t an easy feat. Hear from Kyle Morris, Kicksaw’s co-founder, and Brooke Arevalo, our Director of Finance, about why Kicksaw chose to go big with our profit sharing, how the program works, and what it took to make it happen. https://lnkd.in/gHRgGPpy

Craig Melton shared thisI'm working on the launch of a partner program, and I've had many conversations with experienced partner professionals in the past 2 weeks. Each of them in their own words has shared this same sentiment. Trust, and quality over quantity is a recurring theme. Thanks for sharing Marco De Paulis!Craig Melton shared thisAfter spending two full days with senior leadership, I was fascinated by this one term that came up MULTIPLE times. It came up when discussing customer retention, public speaking, team building, and more. It was TRUST. A prospective customer's level of trust in you as a potential vendor and your ability to execute and support them long-term. An audience's first impression of your trustworthiness, credibility, and experience. An employee's ability to trust that you can lead them through good and bad times and will help them grow and achieve their goals. And of course, in #partnerships, trust is the foundation that holds everything together and encourages investment and growth between your teams. The higher up the ladder you go, the more you will hear this term. I think it will also become increasingly important as we continue through rocky financial times where trust will trump flash and appearance. Something to think about for yourself as a professional, as a partner, and as a human.

Craig Melton liked thisCraig Melton liked thisAfter eight years as a founding partner at City Fund, I'm launching something new. Ed City Labs is an incubator, convener, and advising organization focused on catalyzing systems change across American cities and school districts. The work follows a through-line from my experiences first at The Mind Trust, then leading Education Cities, and now at City Fund: cities like Denver, New Orleans, Indianapolis, and Camden have shown what's possible when leaders commit to educator autonomy, system-wide accountability, and equitable access for every family. Cities that embrace this approach transition from top-down, bureaucratic school systems to more open and innovative systems of schools, giving families better options and driving stronger results citywide. The question is how to help many more cities get there. City Fund is a key driver of this work and is backing Ed City Labs with a seed grant. Ed City Labs exists because a few unsolved challenges are limiting how far and fast this work can scale. I'm spending the next several months in conversation with leaders across the field, exploring those challenges and designing initiatives I hope to launch later this year. More about what I'm exploring is at www.edcitylabs.org.

Craig Melton liked thisCraig Melton liked thisAll cultures have problems, they all have disagreements and fail with regularity. It’s the great cultures that leverage these to learn and improve. The great ones disagree with a foundation of security, belonging and safet between eachother. They passionately disagree on what beers to make, what events to host, and what to spend money on. Here are 3 rules to improving your culture at your brewery: - start right where you are, you have what it takes already in house, - create conversations, not top down mandates, and - there are no rules. -> Continually test, tweak and customize actions that reinforce a strong and health culture. Let go of outdated beliefs that great culture is only for certain breweries or that it’s magic. Culture is built by the actions you take together as a group. Start auditing your actions and commit to improving them. ~~~~~~ I am committed to provide incredible free value to all those in the brewery and craft beverage industry, here are two ways to keep up to date: - Subscribe to our newsletter for actionable insights each week: https://lnkd.in/eiqkg6K5 - Follow me, Jamie Schild

Craig Melton liked thisCraig Melton liked thisCulture is NOT the responsibility of HR. It's ridiculous to put that burden on them. They can have a tremendous impact on a great company culture, but they can't produce and sustain it. At small breweries and businesses, culture needs to be an asset not a liability. And to build it, it starts at the very top! And when I asked over 1,000 people what creates a high performing team, what makes them tick. The overwhelming majority pointed to leadership! So the burden is large for you leaders!!! Whether you are just getting going or been in the industry for year, being a great leader will set you apart. And will allow you to build a culture that crushes the competition. Here's two quickies to get on the right path: 1️⃣ How you treat people and what you choose to prioritize: Leaders who back values with actions instead of empty words. Does that high performing jerk get a pass? 😬 2️⃣ Leaders understand that sometimes tough decisions must be made for the health of the org. They choose to be happy and healthy. They choose their people. They choose together. This is how you sustain great company culture! How you stand out and survive as a craft beverage business. How innovation can take off. It's here! And it's not on HR. It’s on you. And don't feel like you need to go at this alone. I Love you all! And I'm here to help. Craig Melton liked thisCraig Melton liked thisWhat dysfunctions are holding your team back? There are 5 main ones and here are the questions to ask to see. It starts with the absence of Trust, the bottom building block - Do my team members feel psychologically safe and are able to be vulnerable? - Do team members openly share ideas and insights? - Do you know how to work with each other? The Fear of Conflict: - Is everyone in agreement in meetings? Or are the meetings passionate and differing opinions are encouraged? - Are disagreements viewed as a tool or as a power struggle? - Are problems discussed openly early on or do they lurk in the shadows? Commitment and the Lack of it: - Do team members truly understand team goals and strategy? And are they bought in? - Are they able to see how their day to day work enables the team to reach higher heights? - Are tasks and responsibilities consistently completed on time? Accountability Avoidance: - Is a high standard held for all team members? - Is the team ‘high performing’? Do high achievers fit in or stand out? - Are team members able to ‘ask for better’ from one another, or are they reluctant? Results focused on the individual vs Team: - Is the team more focused on personal success and recognition, or on achieving collective results? - Are decisions driven by the desire to achieve team goals, or are compromises between team members’ interests? TL/DR; The strength of a team lies not in its individual members, But in its cohesion, its trust, and its collective vision. Ask: Do we truly trust each other and do we put the team results ahead of our own? If no, there's work to do in creating a high performing team And unlocking incredible results at your craft beverage business! ~~~~~~ I am committed to provide incredible free value to all those in the brewery and craft beer (and beverage) industry, please subscribe to our newsletter for actionable insights each week: https://lnkd.in/eiqkg6K5

Craig Melton liked thisCraig Melton liked thisI grew up with a limiting belief that successful people were different, The ELITE came from the a different class than me. I doubted myself, I wasn't good enough. I didn't have what it took. I wasn't country club material. We were just blue collar folks. More comfortable with a shovel in my hand, then in an office. My perspective got flipped on it's head when I took a job with Veolia in NYC. I was sipping from a fire hose as I met experts from around the world On a transformative Water and Wastewater Project. Something happened here; An intersection: the experts vs operators. Experts, the elite engineers with PHD in their titles And the operators that worked in one of the worst environments I had seen, wastewater treatment facilities. The operators that had been beaten down and told their opinions didn't matter. And the experts coming up with solutions behind their desk and not fully listening to or understanding the actual issues and concerns of the operators. I related more to the operators and the blue collars even though I had my PE (professional engineering license). We were trying to drive down operating costs. We had identified significant opportunities, but couldn't get any traction. The experts ideas were falling flat. The project was in jeopardy. And here's where the magic happened for me... David ALEXANDRE, Rod Naylor, Gerald FitzGibbon, Jay Dearborn and Geoff Gage unveiled a different approach. One that brought out the best in both sides. One built on collaboration, that we were in this together. We were a team! One that encouraged vulnerability, Allowing both sides to say I don't know or I have a dumb idea, but there might be something you can build on? A system that changed my life. That has had over a $100M in documented impact on that specific project alone in NYC! That allowed me to go to Australia to train folks, to be on special teams that saved operations that were in trouble, To create handbooks for operations staff to leverage, and to build training programs for tens of thousands of folks. To quote Ruth from Ozark "I don't know sh*t about f*ck," but I know people. And I freakin love all types. And I know systems and how to listen. And thats why I started A-Bay. Moral of the story? We are all doing our best and we all have our faults, but believe in yourself. Find what makes you tick, listen, and enable those around you. It will surprise you over and over again. You have the ability to become Elite! “It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.” – Harry Truman

Craig Melton liked thisMy man Jamie Schild shares 5 tips to help you get the most out of your Ekos reports and guide you on the path to better budgeting for you brewery!Craig Melton liked thisBudgeting can be a B*tch Even getting the data out to start can suck. It's so simple to enter in data into software, but getting it out to budget can suck. Here are 5 tips to help get data out of Ekos Reports and get you budgeting more easily: ➡️ Find a report that is similar to what you want to pull out and copy it. For budgeting, we recommend starting with your volume sold out of each of your departments. To do this, copy the 'Sales - by Item Class' in EKOS to start. Then tweak the filters for the 'item class' you want, add in your cost centers, remove the other columns, and move 'item class' from 'group by' into columns. Using other platforms, simply export your raw data by day with details around product type (beer - Packaged vs cider kegged), volume, and by department or cost / profit center. ➡️ When adjusting filters, make sure to click that green check mark. This is a super frustrating one that I continually forget. Don't make the same mistake as me and hit that green check mark to finalize your filters whenever you edit them. ➡️ Make one change at a time and then preview the changed report This is especially useful when pulling in new metrics into a report. Add in one and preview the report. Often times, adding in the 'wrong' metric can cause the report to crash, not fun! In general, this is a good rule when testing out new things, one change at a time! ➡️ Move any ‘group by’ metrics to a column. The 'Group by' area is nice when looking at the report in EKOS, but awful for when you want to utilize your data for anything else. Take the metrics out of this area and get the data in more of a database format. ➡️ Click on a metric for additional functionality, including summarize. This is a secret I swear. I never knew this after running 1,000's of reports. This can allow you to change the unit of measure from Barrels to Gallons to Case Equivalents. Or from average to sum. We use this to move from transaction detail, to daily totals. The transaction level is too detailed for our budgeting exercise, but could be useful for analyzing time of day information. ➡️ Bonus Tip: Export as a 'csv' to use business intelligence tools and run advanced analytics with the data. Ekos is a powerful tool, but not a data analytics platform. Export data and utilize a much more appropriate tool to analyze, predict and formulate a budget with. What other tips would you add? Grist Analytics, The 5th Ingredient, Encompass Technologies, Brew Ninja, Next Glass, and Ohanafy, what are tips to help your users utilize their data more effectively? We only have the "how to" export data for our budgeting tool for EKOS, who wants to get their guide into our tool too? And we're building an incredibly powerful free budgeting tool and want more input into the tool, comment if you'd like to provide input. #breweryperformance #operationalexcellence #ekoshelp #budgetingforbreweries #budgetingmadeeasy
