Blake Thomas liked thisBlake Thomas liked thisWith just a little less than a month until I start my final year at Clemson, I have been reflecting on what an amazing summer I've been having! This May, I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad with Clemson University through its faculty-led program: Entrepreneurship in Spain. Throughout the trip, we had the opportunity to travel all across Spain, including Pamplona, San Sebastian, Bilbao, Madrid, and Seville. During our travels, we had the opportunity to visit businesses from startups like Bizi Cycle Tours | Boutique Cycling Experience and Mad Disc Golf to innovative companies like KIMUA GROUP, business incubators, olive oil producers, wineries, and family-owned businesses. Each visit offered a different perspective on entrepreneurship, teaching me lessons I look forward to applying this upcoming school year. Beyond the business visits, this experience challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, embrace a new culture, and build friendships with an incredible group of people. I'm returning to Clemson with a broader perspective, new inspiration, and countless memories that I'll carry with me long after this trip. A huge thank you to the Clemson faculty, Lori Tribble Trudell, Chad Navis, and Bill DiNardo, who truly made this trip incredible, valuable, and special in every way. I am so grateful to be at a University with so many amazing opportunities, faculty, and students; Spain was an experience I will never forget!

Wow, we truly hit the jackpot with these two. Lucy and Cami are hardworking, caring, funny, dependable, flexible, and always eager to learn. They fully immersed themselves in entrepreneurship and made a lasting impact throughout the summer. They especially shined as day staff during our Residential Entrepreneurship Camp, where they guided and encouraged their high school teams all week and helped lead them to winning pitches! Lucy and Cami, thank you for continuing the high standards our interns have set and for supporting the mission of the Brook T. Smith Launchpad. You will always be part of the Launchpad family, and we cannot wait to see all that you accomplish next!

Blake Thomas liked thisBlake Thomas liked thisThe Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) is the largest annual convention of researchers, pharmaceuticals, academics, and patient advocacy groups in the world and NDSS had the honor of being the only Down syndrome organization to exhibit at the conference earlier this month! 🙌 We were honored to be joined by colleagues and self-advocates from Down's Syndrome Association of the UK and were delighted to see Dr. Beau Ances, a frequent collaborator with NDSS, receive the deLeon Prize in Neuroimaging for his work in Alzheimer’s disease research. We’re pleased to share that attention on Down syndrome-associated Alzheimer’s disease (DS-AD) has increased dramatically in recent years, as DS-AD was the topic of “featured research” panel presentations, several “developing topics” sessions, and more than 80 research posters. 👏

This on-site role will help shape the visual identity of merchandise for one of the most iconic brands in sports through the development of original artwork and management of product concepts from design through production. The Manager, Merchandise Creative Design will lead the development and execution of high-impact creative initiatives across multiple product categories. This role is responsible for overseeing project workflows, fostering collaboration across teams and ensuring every design reflects the Club's commitment to excellence and attention to detail. In addition, this individual will mentor designers, establish creative priorities and partner closely with both product development teams and suppliers to deliver extraordinary merchandise experiences. Smith Launchpad, has received a second-year grant from the Milliken & Company Charitable Foundation! This generous increase in funding has helped support the expansion of our week-long residential high school entrepreneurship camp from 50 to 100 students. The program is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, build lasting connections, and inspire them to explore new possibilities for their future. We are also thrilled to welcome numerous accomplished guest speakers who will share their experiences, insights, and expertise throughout the week. We are excited about the impact they will have on our students and the inspiration and opportunities their stories will create. Together, we are investing in the next generation of South Carolina’s entrepreneurial leaders.

Blake Thomas liked thisBlake Thomas liked thisDays 16 of Clemson ENT in Spain gave students the opportunity to learn from two outstanding businesses that are preserving tradition while innovating for the future. We began the day at Basilippo Oleoturismo , a multi-generational olive oil hacienda outside of Seville. Students learned about the history of the family farm, the olive oil production process, and the challenges and opportunities of operating a business rooted in generations of tradition. It was a fascinating look at how family businesses balance heritage, quality, and long-term stewardship while adapting to modern markets. Later, we visited BarroAzul Gestión Cultural Cerámica, where the owners shared their passion for preserving and promoting one of Seville’s most recognizable artistic traditions. Beyond creating beautiful ceramic works, they are actively working to educate visitors about the history, techniques, and cultural significance of Sevillian ceramics. Their commitment to both craftsmanship and education demonstrated how entrepreneurs can create value by preserving and sharing cultural heritage. One of the highlights of the visit was that students had the opportunity to paint their own ceramic tiles to take home—a hands-on experience that gave them a deeper appreciation for the artistry, skill, and history behind this centuries-old craft. What connected both visits was a common theme: Entrepreneurship is not always about creating something entirely new. Sometimes it is about honoring the past, preserving traditions, and finding innovative ways to share them with future generations. A huge thank you to the owners and teams at both businesses for welcoming our students and sharing their stories.
