Jonathan Schulhof shared thisJamie Dimon, Jim Farley, Gretchen Whitmer, and Michigan Central came together at Newlab to meet our member companies and brainstorm initiatives to rapidly scale critical technologies. The conversations were inspiring and actionable. We are very enthusiastic about the road ahead.Jonathan Schulhof shared thisThe United States needs to expand domestic production of critical components and advanced manufacturing capabilities to protect our long-term economic and national security. Our main barrier in achieving that aim is not the availability of technology or capital, but in coordinating the market around investable opportunities. Newlab, JPMorganChase, State of Michigan, Ford Motor Company, and Michigan Central are launching Michigan LIFT, a first-of-its-kind public-private platform that brings together billions of dollars in industrial demand, private capital, and state resources to accelerate the commercialization of critical technologies that can address critical supply chain gaps and expand competitive production capacity in Michigan. Jonathan Schulhof reposted thisJonathan Schulhof reposted thisNewlab is launching in the United Kingdom in partnership with the Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) to support commercialization of critical technologies to industrial scale. ARIA was created in 2023 by an Act of Parliament to fund breakthrough R&D in underexplored areas to catalyze new paths to prosperity for the UK and the world. They empower scientists and engineers to pursue research that is too speculative, too hard, or too interdisciplinary to pursue elsewhere. Once those teams hit the boundary between research and real-world outcomes, ARIA taps a selective group of Activation Partners with the commercial and technical experience to support translation of research to industrial scale. As part of the newly announced Activation Partner cohort, Newlab will connect critical technology ARIA-funded research teams with manufacturers, testbeds, regional industry partners, and investors to move promising prototypes towards real-world industrial applications. Newlab and ARIA aim to shape a repeatable model for translating critical research at the intersection of cutting edge science and essential industry; enabling new technology to scale, expanding strategic industrial capabilities, and building long-term economic value for the UK. The partnership is the first step for Newlab to expand our commercialization model across the pond, while strengthening the UK’s long-term industrial competitiveness and economic resilience. Jonathan Schulhof shared thisDistributed compute that can lower electric bills for home owners, help finance T&D infrastructure, dynamically balance grid load, and avert costly power hungry data centers… a groundbreaking solution. Go Arch and team!Jonathan Schulhof shared thisDiana Olick has the story on XFRA in this morning’s CNBC Property Play. XFRA unlocks speed to power by tapping into available, underutilized grid infrastructure in homes, bringing benefits to homeowners and hyperscalers alike. Jonathan Schulhof shared thisToday is my last day at New York City Economic Development Corporation. I leave confident that my team is firing on all cylinders, and that our programs are thriving. We engaged startups, investors, corporations, non-profits, academia, and government partners to research and build innovation ecosystems that serve the public interest. We induced private support to multiply our public funds. And we established lasting institutions and programs that will offer entrepreneurship and employment opportunities to countless New Yorkers for many years to come. Thank you to the myriad stakeholders that have joined our efforts. With an enhanced perspective on the accelerating pace of innovation and on the power of public-private partnerships, I am returning to the private sector. To my colleagues and team: You have been a joy to work with and I am immensely grateful for our time together. I will root for your continued success. Farewell. https://lnkd.in/eKkNv8Md

Jonathan Schulhof shared this185,000 small businesses are the bedrock of New York City's economy, and therefore central to our AI Nexus strategy at the New York City Economic Development Corporation. That's why we partnered with Plug and Play Tech Center to develop and scale practical AI solutions that will benefit small businesses across the 5 boroughs. To shape program development, adoption, and follow through, Daria Siegel and Melissa Lent-Lume assembled an incredible roundtable of leaders from across New York City to learn and brainstorm. Jonathan Schulhof liked thisJonathan Schulhof liked thisLast week, New York City selected Partnership Fund portfolio company it's electric to help build out the city’s permanent curbside EV charging network. Today, during New York Climate Week, we had the chance to talk about what it takes to turn an idea into into infrastructure that can scale. At Newlab’s New Climate Futures, Partnership Fund President & CEO Maria Gotsch joined It’s Electric cofounder Tiya Gordon, New York City Department of Transportation, the NYC Mayor's Office of Climate & Environmental Justice, and Climate Innovation NYC for a conversation about electrifying transportation in a city as complex as New York. “It's Electric is exactly the kind of company we target for investment. It's solving both an infrastructure problem and a civic problem.” It’s Electric’s story is a good example of what collaboration across the public and private sectors can unlock. It's Electric was born in Brooklyn and is working alongside government to to bring curbside charging to neighborhoods across the five boroughs with a solution specifically built for our city's density and communities that are traditionally overlooked. And there’s more to the story behind how they got here. Forbes took a deeper look this week at It’s Electric’s journey, the company’s approach to building urban charging infrastructure, and the investors backing its growth — including the Partnership Fund. https://lnkd.in/ggKSYDNw Congratulations again to the It’s Electric team — and thanks to everyone working across the public and private sectors to help move this project from an ambitious idea to infrastructure New Yorkers will actually use. #PartnershipFund #ClimateWeek #Infrastructure

Jonathan Schulhof liked thisClimate week is more than just the Green Economy businesses. The industry is male-dominated across many main sectors with significant opportunity jobs that offer upward mobility, yet women lack equal representation and access. Trades and construction exemplify this issue, with about 3.5% of workers being women. This conversation isn’t about salary negotiations; it’s about power dynamics rooted in gender role perceptions. If you're hiring, exploring a career pivot, or simply want to learn more about where the green economy is headed, this is worth your time. From September 21–23, the Green Jobs Pavilion is bringing together employers, workforce organizations, industry leaders, and job seekers for three days of career exploration, networking, and hands-on learning. Jonathan Schulhof liked thisJonathan Schulhof liked thisAs anyone who has asked me for career advice over the past forty years knows, I’ve always recommended they start by trying to get a job at New York City Economic Development Corporation. What a gift to be able to finally follow my own advice. After my last government tour as First Deputy Mayor, I figured I was done with public service. But then I got a call. How could I pass up another chance to come back and be a part of that? I get to do the work I love for the city I love, a chance to be part of an administration deeply aligned with my own values at a time when so much that I care about is under threat, and to be on a team committed to changing the direction of our public discourse. Now, it’s not an easy time to be in any kind of government, but local government has the special challenge — and opportunity — of delivering far more kinds of services to people than any other level. We need action that builds our economy through growth and through inclusion, because growth without inclusion is a recipe for instability, just as expanding inclusion without growth is a tall order for any locality. And at EDC, it's why we're working to prove that these two ideas — economic growth and economic justice — actually go hand-in-hand. That’s what we mean when we say we’re in a new era of economic development for New York City. I am so happy to have a chance to be a part of it.

Definitely recommend reading the recently released "Climate Capital Reset Project" report, by friends Will Coleman Daniel Firger Bill Tarr and Builders Vision. I wrote about it, and some key lessons in light of recent dramatic events, in my latest Forbes column. I've been investing for more than two decades and I've never seen such a significant market shift so quickly. This is not a time for more-of-the-same from climate investors and capital allocators. Dramatic events call for dramatic shifts, and those who adapt too slowly will fall by the wayside. https://lnkd.in/ekbY69Hp #climateinvesting #privateequity #venturecapital #capitalallocators #wealthmanagement
