Key Takeaways
- The Dallas Cowboys remain the world’s most valuable sports team, despite not appearing in a Super Bowl for 30 years.
- NFL teams dominate overall valuations, while NBA franchises post some of the fastest growth rates.
This visualization ranks the most valuable sports teams in the world in 2026, highlighting both long-established dynasties and fast-rising franchises. It also shows how financial success does not always align with on-field results.
Values are shown in U.S. dollars and include year-over-year percentage changes. The data for this visualization comes from Forbes.
The Cowboys Lead—Even Without Recent Titles
The Dallas Cowboys top the rankings at $13.0 billion, making them the most valuable sports franchise in the world.
Notably, the team has not appeared in a Super Bowl since the 1995 season, when it defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite this long championship drought, the Cowboys’ brand power, national fanbase, and lucrative sponsorships continue to drive unmatched financial success.
| Rank | Team | Value (Billions) | League |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Dallas Cowboys | $13.0 | NFL |
| 2 | Golden State Warriors | $11.0 | NBA |
| 3 | Los Angeles Rams | $10.5 | NFL |
| 4 | New York Giants | $10.1 | NFL |
| 5 | Los Angeles Lakers | $10.0 | NBA |
| 6 | New York Knicks | $9.75 | NBA |
| 7 | New England Patriots | $9.0 | NFL |
| 8 | San Francisco 49ers | $8.6 | NFL |
| 9 | Philadelphia Eagles | $8.3 | NFL |
| 10 | Chicago Bears | $8.2 | NFL |

| 14 | Washington Commanders | $7.6 | NFL |
| 15 | Los Angeles Clippers | $7.5 | NBA |
| 15 | Miami Dolphins | $7.5 | NFL |
| 17 | Houston Texans | $7.4 | NFL |
| 18 | Denver Broncos | $6.8 | NFL |
| 18 | Los Angeles Dodgers | $6.8 | MLB |
| 20 | Real Madrid | $6.75 | La Liga |
Combined, NFL franchises account for 13 of the top 20 teams (65%), including the New England Patriots, who will face the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX on February 8, 2026.
NBA Growth Fueled by Star Power and Ownership
NBA teams show some of the fastest valuation growth on the list. The Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks both exceed $9 billion in value, reflecting the league’s global reach and star-driven appeal.
The Los Angeles Clippers, valued at $7.5 billion, are owned by former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, whose investment in a new arena and aggressive spending has helped boost the franchise’s worth.
Notably, the Lakers and the current World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, share the same ownership group, underscoring how cross-sport portfolios can amplify brand value.
Soccer’s Global Reach, Limited Representation
Real Madrid is the only soccer club to make the top 20, valued at $6.75 billion. This is notable given soccer’s global popularity and the presence of superstar athletes, including Cristiano Ronaldo, the highest-paid athlete in the world. It also reflects how the sports business is far more developed in the United States.

How MLB’s Ballparks Compare by Age
Key Takeaways
- Fenway Park (1912) and Wrigley Field (1914) are the only major league ballparks that opened before 1960.
- Wrigley is 48 years older than third-oldest Dodger Stadium, which opened in 1962.
- Nineteen of MLB’s 30 active ballparks opened between 1990 and 2009, a two-decade wave that reshaped the league’s ballpark landscape.
Baseball venerates its old ballparks, even as it has replaced almost all of them. Fenway Park and Wrigley Field have both hosted Major League Baseball for more than a century, while most of today’s venues arrived decades later.
The list comes from MLB, which dates each park to its first regular-season major league game.
How MLB Determines a Ballpark’s Age
MLB ranks each ballpark by the year it hosted its first regular-season major league game, rather than simply when the building was constructed.
For Wrigley Field, those dates are the same. It opened in 1914 as Weeghman Park, home of the Chicago Whales of the Federal League, two years before the Cubs moved in.
Tropicana Field and Sutter Health Park are different. Tropicana Field was built in 1990 but did not host its first MLB game until the Rays debuted in 1998. Sutter Health Park opened as a minor league ballpark in 2000 but did not host MLB until the Athletics arrived in 2025.
The table ranks all 30 active ballparks, 29 in the United States and one in Canada, from oldest to newest. Parks share a rank when they have the same opening year.
| Ballpark Name | Location | Year Opened | MLB Team | Years old |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fenway Park | Boston, MA | 1912 | Red Sox | 114 |
| Wrigley Field | Chicago, IL | 1914 | Cubs | 112 |
| Dodger Stadium | Los Angeles, CA | 1962 | Dodgers | 64 |
| Angel Stadium | Anaheim, CA | 1966 | Angels | 60 |
| Kauffman Stadium | Kansas City, MO | 1973 | Royals | 53 |
| Rogers Centre | Toronto, ON | 1989 | Blue Jays | 37 |
| Rate Field | Chicago, IL | 1991 | White Sox | 35 |
| Oriole Park | Baltimore, MD | 1992 | Orioles | 34 |
| Progressive Field | Cleveland, OH | 1994 | Guardians | 32 |
| Coors Field | Denver, CO | 1995 | Rockies | 31 |
| Tropicana Field | St. Petersburg, FL | 1998 | Rays | 28 |
| Chase Field | Phoenix, AZ | 1998 | Diamondbacks | 28 |
| T-Mobile Park | Seattle, WA | 1999 | Mariners | 27 |
| Daikin Park | Houston, TX | 2000 | Astros | 26 |
| Comerica Park | Detroit, MI | 2000 | Tigers | 26 |
| Oracle Park | San Francisco, CA | 2000 | Giants | 26 |
| American Family Field | Milwaukee, WI | 2001 | Brewers | 25 |
| PNC Park | Pittsburgh, PA | 2001 | Pirates | 25 |
| Great American Ball Park | Cincinnati, OH | 2003 | Reds | 23 |
| Petco Park | San Diego, CA | 2004 | Padres | 22 |
| Citizens Bank Park | Philadelphia, PA | 2004 | Phillies | 22 |
| Busch Stadium | St. Louis, MO | 2006 | Cardinals | 20 |
| Nationals Park | Washington, DC | 2008 | Nationals | 18 |
| Citi Field | Queens, NY | 2009 | Mets | 17 |
| Yankee Stadium | Bronx, NY | 2009 | Yankees | 17 |
| Target Field | Minneapolis, MN | 2010 | Twins | 16 |
| loanDepot park | Miami, FL | 2012 | Marlins | 14 |
| Truist Park | Atlanta, GA | 2017 | Braves | 9 |
| Globe Life Field | Arlington, TX | 2020 | Rangers | 6 |
| Sutter Health Park | West Sacramento, CA | 2025 | Athletics | 1 |
The median ballpark opened in 2000, making it 26 years old in 2026. Three active parks opened that year: Daikin Park in Houston, Comerica Park in Detroit, and Oracle Park in San Francisco.
Only Five Ballparks Are Over 40 Years Old
Fenway Park has hosted major league baseball for 114 years and Wrigley Field for 112. Behind them are Dodger Stadium at 64 years, Angel Stadium at 60, and Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City at 53. No other active MLB ballpark is 40 years old.
The gap between the top two and the rest is striking. Wrigley is 48 years older than Dodger Stadium, a span longer than the entire lifetime of every park built after 1985. Shea Stadium makes the contrast even clearer: it opened in 1964, half a century after Wrigley, and was demolished in 2009 to be replaced by Citi Field.
The teams playing in MLB’s two oldest ballparks are also among its most valuable. CNBC valued the Cubs at $5.25 billion and the Red Sox at $5 billion in March 2026, ranking them third and fourth in MLB. Only the Yankees and Dodgers ranked higher, and both also appear among the 20 most valuable sports franchises in the world.
Most MLB Ballparks Opened From 1990 to 2009
Nineteen of the league’s 30 active ballparks, or 63%, opened between 1990 and 2009. Seven debuted in the 1990s and another 12 in the 2000s, beginning with Rate Field on Chicago’s South Side in 1991 and ending with Citi Field and Yankee Stadium in 2009.
Oriole Park at Camden Yards, which opened in 1992, helped set the template for many of the parks that followed. By 2009, the two-decade construction wave had reshaped most of MLB’s ballpark landscape.
Just Four New MLB Ballparks Since 2010
Only four purpose-built major league ballparks have opened since 2010: Target Field in Minneapolis in 2010, loanDepot park in Miami in 2012, Truist Park in Atlanta in 2017, and Globe Life Field in Arlington in 2020.
Sutter Health Park is a different case. The regular home of the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats, it began hosting the Athletics in 2025 as their temporary home. The A’s are scheduled to play there through 2027, with an option to remain for 2028 if their new Las Vegas ballpark is not ready.
That makes Sutter Health Park the newest venue in the ranking by first MLB game, but not by construction date. The ballpark opened in 2000 as Raley Field, 25 years before the Athletics arrived.

Spain: Home to the Giants
The two most valuable football clubs in the world are both based in Spain.
Real Madrid CF (€8.1 billion) is the world’s most valuable club by enterprise value. Its longtime rival, FC Barcelona, ranks second at €6.7 billion. Both teams play in La Liga, the highest level of the Spanish football system.

| 20 | 🇮🇹 SSC Napoli | 0.3 |
Real Madrid and Barcelona stand well ahead of their closest Spanish rival. Atlético Madrid ranks 11th globally at €2.2 billion, meaning Real Madrid’s enterprise value is more than three times larger.
The two clubs’ global fan bases, commercial reach, and long histories of success have helped turn the El Clásico rivals into two of football’s most valuable businesses.
England: The Premier Football Teams
Spain may be home to the top two clubs, but England’s Premier League accounts for most of their closest competitors in enterprise value.
Of the world’s 10 most valuable football clubs, six play in the Premier League: Arsenal (€6 billion), Liverpool (€5.1 billion), Manchester United (€4.7 billion), Manchester City (€4.5 billion), Chelsea (€3.7 billion), and Tottenham Hotspur (€2.3 billion).
England’s strength extends beyond the top 10. Aston Villa (€1.9 billion) and Newcastle United (€1.3 billion) also make the global top 20, giving the Premier League eight clubs in the ranking overall.
The Most Valuable Football Clubs in the World
Beyond La Liga and the Premier League, Europe’s most valuable teams include Germany’s Bayern Munich (€6 billion) and France’s Paris Saint-Germain (€4.2 billion).
Italy’s most valuable club is Internazionale Milano at €1.6 billion. Inter Milan ranks 14th worldwide and is known for its high fan attendance. Other Italian clubs in the top 20 include Juventus (€1.2 billion), AC Milan (€1 billion), and SSC Napoli (€339 million).
A single Portuguese club makes the top 20: Sporting Clube de Portugal (€394 million), based in Lisbon.
The ranking also highlights the scale of the gap between Europe’s biggest clubs and those near the bottom of the top 20. Real Madrid’s €8.1 billion enterprise value is roughly 20 times Sporting CP’s €394 million and nearly 24 times Napoli’s €339 million.
