Unbreaking is an enchantment that gives a chance for an item to avoid durability reduction when it is used, effectively increasing the item's durability.
The probability of a tool breaking after a number of uses with different levels of this enchantment. Some lower durability materials may last longer than higher durability materials with some enchantment levels.
For tools and weapons, there is a 100%÷(level+1) chance that using the item reduces durability, which means that the item has a 50%/66.66……%/75% chance of not using any durability. On average, tools last 2/3/4 times as long.
For armors, there is a 60%+40%÷(level+1) chance a use reduces durability, meaning each durability hit against Unbreaking armor has a 20%/26.66……%/30% chance of being ignored. On average, armor lasts 1.25/1.3636……/1.428571428571…… times as long. Technically, only level below 0 of Unbreaking can lower the reduce-durability chance less than 60%.
When durability is reduced by multiple points, for example, when hooking a mob with fishing rods or getting blown up with TNT, Unbreaking is applied for each point of decision of actual reduction.
