Sending HTML email, via PHP form

Question

I am trying to send my website visitors and email with some directions and tips before they show up to my studio via PHP form mailer. ( i am simplifying some of the form fields )

However the HTML formatting is not working correctly.... did i not declare the mime type of charset correctly?

You're not even using the $headers variable. Plus you have an unmatched double quote $message2 = "<html><head></head><body> I would suggest using one of the fine, free mailer classes, e.g., PHP Mailer, Swift Mailer. — webbiedave

There is a lot of random junk that needs to be done to an email to send correctly. I generally tend to outsource all that responsibility to a pre-packaged class that exists in the wild, something like http://swiftmailer.org/

Maybe someone else would have a better class to offer.

This looks more managable, than what i was trying to do. Question... in the ->setFrom(array('[email protected]')) variable, how can i set this to pull the data entered in the "email" field?

->setFrom(array($_POST['email'])) should do the trick... unless I am misunderstanding you. It may also work to just do ->setFrom($_POST['email']), without the array. However, it may be a good idea to validate the posted email as a valid email address before you try to plug it into the object like that.

I swear by the PEAR Mail_Mime package. It's simple and powerful.

PEAR: Mail_Mime

//Basic mail headers

$mime = new Mail_mime("\r\n");
$mime->setTXTBody("This is a test");

$headers = $mime->headers($headers);

$mail_obj =& Mail::factory('smtp', array('host' => 'mail.domain.com', 'port' => 25));
$mail_obj->send($headers['To'], $headers, $body);
