Drew Smith, MBA shared thisA new adventure started about a month ago and I was too engrossed to post about it. I have joined ChristianaCare as the Chief Data & AI Officer. Honored, thrilled, nervous, pyched, I am all of it! ChristianCare is anchored in the simple and powerful values of Love & Excellence. Those are big, ambitious life changing words, and I see folks across the system work with those values at the center. I am humbled to do the same.

Drew Smith, MBA shared thisIf data leaders don’t use data to make decisions god help us all. And if data leaders don’t work to make good data, then there’s no help for anyone. Kidding of course…or am I ;-) More seriously here’s 5 reasons to take this survey 1. As Michael Butts mentions the core of it has been around for a while so we have the chance to work longditunally here and as a discipline in constant change, Data, Analytics & AI needs the long-term view. 2. Also the additions that Mike and the team Burtch Works will add will enable leaders to see with clarity changes at the C-level. Folks are increasingly creating multiple C level data roles, like a seperate CDO and CAO. Where does this happening across industry and size? Not for folks to blindly follow, but to spur thoughtful reflection. 3. Adding this into the leading publication in our space, CDO Magazine means more folks will see it. Don’t you want those folks to see your reality reflected? 4. Out of immense self-interest, I want folks to complete this so I can rely on it. 5. It takes less than 10 minutes.Drew Smith, MBA shared thisBurtch Works is thrilled to announce, alongside CDO Magazine, that we have entered into an exclusive partnership to launch the industry’s first annual CDO/CDAO/CAIO Executive Compensation Benchmark Report. This first-of-its-kind report is purpose-built for Data, Analytics, and AI executives and will leverage Burtch Works’ proven compensation benchmarking methodology to provide meaningful insights into: • Base salary • Annual incentives and bonus structures • Long-term incentive planning (LTIP) • Equity grants and executive compensation trends • Reporting structures and organizational influence • AI ownership and strategic enterprise accountability For more than 13 years, Burtch Works has been recognized as the leading authority in Data Science, AI, and Engineering compensation benchmarking. Our reports have become trusted resources for enterprise organizations, private equity firms, executives, and practitioners across the AI ecosystem because they are built from highly curated and specialized industry data sets. However, one request continued to surface from our community year after year: “Where is the executive benchmark report for CDO, CAO, CDAO, and CAIOs?” It didn’t exist. There was no authoritative industry benchmark dedicated specifically to AI and Data executives that incorporated not only salary, but also incentive compensation, LTIPs, equity participation, organizational scope, and enterprise influence. We knew that needed to change! Today, I’m excited to officially share that the construction of this important industry data asset is underway, with our inaugural report scheduled for publication in August 2026. As part of this initiative, we are inviting senior Data, Analytics, and AI leaders to participate in our confidential executive survey. Our goal is to build a meaningful and representative executive n-size that will establish a powerful annual benchmark for the industry. All survey responses will remain strictly confidential and will only be reported in aggregate form. Participants will also receive early access to the benchmarking insights prior to public release. If you are a CDO, CDAO, CAIO, Head of AI, Head of Analytics, or data and AI executive, we would greatly appreciate your participation. Take the survey ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ggfsztAC We sincerely value your support in sharing this initiative with your professional networks to help us expand participation across the industry. Together, we have an opportunity to create a meaningful benchmark that helps define the future of executive leadership in the age of AI. Special thanks to Steve Wanamaker, Anthony Losanno, Molly Baab, Douglas Llewellyn, Anita Matalia, EMBA, RYT, Derek Newman, Hussan Ali, MBA, Douglas Laney, Scott Nestler, Roger Moore, Ming-Long Lam, and the rest of the CDO Magazine and Burtch Works team for the vision and execution of this important research project. #AI #CAIO #CDO #CDAO #CompensationBenchmark

Drew Smith, MBA shared thisMy first #IPMI Healthcare IT Conference and the words that keep coming through as I reflect - genuine, engaging and thought provoking. The genuine desire by Nas Panwar and the team to make this conference valuable and enjoyable for everyone. The first panel, moderated by Sarah Richardson, featuring such immense experience in care delivery and tech (Pam Austin, MBA, PMP, CPHIMS, Lisa Davis, Lisa Johnson, Tanya Towsend) offered so much wisdom through that experience. One small example that led me to see an additional way to support teams even better was by leaning into this thinking, shared by Lisa Johnson, “IT must speak several languages fluently - clinical, finance…” Great to see so many Docs take the stage and ask, is the way we deliver care making the best use of tech/data we have? Michael Cui was hardly able to stay in seat as he spoke passionately that we must find a way to get everyone access to primary care, even if that means a radically new approach. Great panelists all around Elise Myers, J Gavin Helton, Jeanne Markland. Honored to share the stage with Chaya Venkata, MD, MBA and to share with the audience the criticality of connecting your AI initiatives to your organization's strategy and building systems for radical collaboration and relentless prioritization - an essential part of getting value from AI and getting out of pilot purgatory. The round tables were an excellent place where more folks shared more deeply about critical challenges in healthcare today. A prime example was the table Tracy Donegan chaired based on her experience around the challenges of meeting one of the most underserved and marginalized communities in our country in Compton. In environments like that genuine care and respect for the human are essential and so is creativity and tenacity. AI, was of course a through line and from the get-go “AI Governance” was tagged as essential. Thank goodness we had Khalid Turk MBA, PMP, CHCIO, FCHIME take that buzzword and make it tangible with clear definitions, targeted outcomes and a comprehensive framework that Khalid developed together with others at #TTIC. Shared with clarity and humility. Finally 5 more leaders across disciplines and delivery systems closed the days. Led by Midori Kondo, Pharm.D., MHA and titled “Strategic Alignment and Partnerships - Meeting the Pop Health Challenge.” Pop Health cannot just be fee-for-service with lower fees. Again a radical rethink is needed. I especially appreciated that no one was left off the hook - from government agencies, to docs and other providers, to internal IT shops and vendors and even some conference organizers (not IPMI, of course). Folks like Midori and Adrienne Martinez-Hollingsworth, PhD, RN, PHN, WAN, folks who start “good trouble” as the late John Lewis used to say are very much needed in healthcare. Nancy Beale, PhD, RN, NI-BC, FAMIA, Tracy Elmer, MS, CHCIO, CDH-E, RHIA and Manijeh ('Mani') Berenji, MD, MPH are in the camp as well.

Drew Smith, MBA shared thisGenerally I always pay attention when Jeff Goldman speaks because I know the knowledge comes from experience. This is not theoretical guidance, this is practical wisdom. Thanks CDO Magazine for sharing.Drew Smith, MBA shared thisEnterprise AI does not fail because of a lack of models. It fails because organizations struggle to operationalize AI at scale. In conversation with Donna Medeiros of Data Society Group, Jeff Goldman, VP, Enterprise Data Science at Procter & Gamble, explains how P&G structured its AI organization to move beyond experimentation and drive enterprise-wide transformation. The conversation explores: • Why P&G created its AI Factory model • How the company balances local business relevance with global AI scale • Why AI engineering became critical to operational success • How business-funded AI projects create accountability and measurable value • Why co-locating data scientists with the business matters ➡️ Read now: https://hubs.ly/Q04htFD40 #AI #EnterpriseAI #DataScience #AIGovernance #DigitalTransformation #AIEngineering #CDOInside P&G’s AI Factory: How the Global Consumer Goods Giant Balances AI Scale With Local Business RelevanceInside P&G’s AI Factory: How the Global Consumer Goods Giant Balances AI Scale With Local Business Relevance

Drew Smith, MBA shared thisSharing with out special shout to my friends in the Mitten, Detroit and Detroitish.Drew Smith, MBA shared thisOpen to early career opportunities in the Grand Rapids and Detroit areas! I’m excited to share that I’ve officially graduated from Calvin University with a degree in Business Analytics and a minor in Data Science. I’m currently looking for opportunities where I can combine business, technology, and problem-solving to help teams make smarter decisions and improve processes. I’m especially interested in Business Analyst, Data Analyst, AI integration, and business development roles. Through internships, projects, coursework, and daily life, I found that I genuinely enjoy thinking through problems, understanding how decisions impact outcomes, and finding efficient solutions that create real value. My experience at Calvin challenged me to think deeper about systems, people, and the bigger picture behind business decisions, and I believe that perspective can bring value to any team. I’m excited to continue learning, growing, and building my career alongside great people and organizations. If you know of any opportunities or would like to connect, feel free to reach out! #opentowork #businessanalyst #dataanalyst #AI #GrandRapids #Detroit #RecentGraduate

Drew Smith, MBA shared thisMad opportunities (as the kids would say when I was a kid) in Columbus for growth, development, networking and new perspectives.Drew Smith, MBA shared thisPls share - Central Ohio tech friends: mark the calendar now, because this next run of events is basically a love letter to everything that makes Columbus special. Only in Columbus can you spend one week talking cloud patterns with practitioners, another sitting in a movie theater with developers after a full conference day, and another surrounded by security leaders comparing notes on how to keep the lights on and the bad actors out. That's an absurdly good stretch of community. Here's the lineup: 🍻 TechLife Columbus Spring Fling - https://lnkd.in/gGFkNRCh Thursday, April 30 | 5:00–7:00 p.m. | Land-Grant Brewing, Franklinton The community glue event. No keynote energy, no overproduced stagecraft — just a laid-back kickoff to conference season with the broader Columbus tech crowd. 3rd annual, free to attend, exactly the kind of low-pressure, high-value gathering this city does so well. 🎬 Stir Trek 2026 - https://lnkd.in/gapr6c55 Friday, May 1 | 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. | AMC DINE-IN Easton Town Center 30 Eighteen years in and still one of the most delightfully Columbus things on the calendar. 1,500+ attendees, 50+ sessions across web, mobile, cloud, quality, security, design, and UX — capped with a private movie screening because apparently our dev conferences need a cinematic third act. 🚀 Ohio Tech Summit - https://lnkd.in/gWZeUhnf May 14, 2026 | Columbus A statewide gathering that zooms out and looks at the broader innovation economy. 5th anniversary, 750+ attendees, 40+ speakers, and tracks on Enterprise, Startups, and Talent. 🌩️ Cloud Nirvana Columbus: Practice, Patterns & Discipline - https://lnkd.in/ghvr2k94 Wednesday, May 20 | 2:00–6:00 p.m. | The Conference Center at OCLC, Dublin Very Columbus in the best way: practical, thoughtful, refreshingly light on nonsense. Focused on turning cloud and AI knowledge into consistent, scalable execution — the practices, patterns, and discipline that make it work in the real world. 🛡️ COISSA Summit 2026 - https://lnkd.in/gJW5dBeS June 8–10 | Hilton Columbus Downtown If security is your lane, this is your week. Ohio's premier infosec gathering — 1,500+ attendees, 100+ speakers, packed vendor hall, plus practitioners and leaders with strong opinions about identity, AppSec, governance, and whatever kept them up last night. What I love about this lineup is that it captures the full personality of Central Ohio tech. The builders. The defenders. The founders. The practitioners. The people who come for one session, stay for three hallway conversations, and leave with five new names in their phone. That's the good stuff. That's the real infrastructure Mark the calendars. Show up. Bring a teammate. Bring a friend. Bring the person who keeps saying they want to plug into the local scene.

Drew Smith, MBA shared thisAt 3 conferences (Becker's Healthcare, CDO Magazine and the Analytics Frontier Conference University of North Carolina at Charlotte) in the last months, folks were in full agreement that Data Governance is having a moment. More folks having data powered tools in their hands means more folks are seeing the ramifications of poorly governed data. Don’t miss this chance. Do lean into the problems that are getting surfaced. Don’t assume the old way will work with the new generation of AI. Do keep what works - collaborations with business and operational leaders, ruthless prioritization of core data and focus on outcomes. Don’t just repeat the same old message and don’t “rebrand” governance as a cheap trick. Do reimagine your program and do look for folks who have both been doing this a while and think critically about what is new now! Some of the folks I mean by this. Newly following and highly impressed by Eric Sandosham, Ph.D. Read his Medium stuff. Always going back to an OG, SCOTT TAYLOR Check out his LinkedIn and look at his Youtube Doing hyper relevant stuff right now Malcolm Hawker LinkedIn again and check out his latest book and his podcast I’m sure there’s more great folks out there. If there’s anyone you look to for inspiration in how to capitalize on this data governance moment, put them in the comments.
-
Drew Smith, MBA shared thisNo points on your #Becker’s bingo card if you had “how to leverage AI”. But before “how” make sure the WHY you leverage AI is fully connected to your organization’s strategic ambitions, accelerating the delivery of those ambitions and amplifying the impact. In a panel of leaders at Penn Medicine, Jefferson and Stanford, each WHY was clear in how they answered the question around the next area of AI focus for their orgs. (My interpretation below based on the awesome panel and what I know about these systems). Jefferson Health - dramatically reduce provider burden in a large diverse integrated system by “returning 10 million hours to clinicians” Stanford University School of Medicine - change healthcare (again) in one of the world’s foremost AMCs by “delivering precision health at scale” Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System - power to the patient across an amazingly diverse patient population by getting the right “AI in the patient’s hands”
-
Drew Smith, MBA shared thisThere are a few “rock star” CEOs in the healthcare game, and the line that immediately formed when Warner Thomas of Sutter Health finished his address at #Becker’s, proves that he is one. To me his message was both simple and powerful. Yes, headwinds outside our control exist, so mindset matters - “turn adversity into advantage.” * Intentional leadership drives strong decisions. * Strong decisions are executed through rigorous structure. * Rigorous structure embeds the decisions into the work of great people. * Great people do great work because you have an unwavering commitment to their development.

Drew Smith, MBA liked thisDrew Smith, MBA liked thisSuper excited to share that I joined JPMorganChase as Head of Applied AI, Payments and Global Banking. A few things that have stood out during my first couple of months: - Incredible Scale: The scale of JPMC Payments and Global Banking is hard to comprehend. Payments processes $10T+ a day, which is equivalent to the world's GDP every couple of weeks. Global Banking operates in 45+ countries with over $44T assets under custody. It's a massive surface area for impact and full of opportunity. - A proven AI foundation: Having been here for a couple of months it's clear why JPMC has been named #1 in Banking in the Evident AI Index 4 years in a row. Over a decade of heavy AI and technology investment, the company's intentional push in recent years, and the tone set from the top have come together to build an incredible foundation. - A results-driven culture focused on impact: Although the firm is a global leader across multiple businesses and there has been a lot of progress with AI and transformation, no one is satisfied and there are endless opportunities and interesting problems to solve. It's clear that we are way past AI adoption and the focus continues to be on driving significant business impact and change. If you're looking for a new adventure, we're hiring -- particularly across Engineering, AI, Data Science and Product. Excited for what's ahead...

Drew Smith, MBA liked thisDrew Smith, MBA liked thisI am deeply honored to have been recognized as the 2026 Nurse Executive of the Year by the The Wisconsin Organization of Nurse Leaders. This recognition represents far more than one moment in time. It reflects a long and storied nursing career, one that began long before I could have imagined where this profession would take me. From those early days of finding my place in healthcare, to becoming a nurse, to eventually having the privilege of leading nurses and healthcare teams, every chapter has shaped the leader I am today. I am especially grateful to Shawana Burnette DNP, RNC-OB, NEA-BC, CLNC, FAWHONN for nominating me for this recognition. Thank you for seeing my leadership, believing it worthy of acknowledgment, and taking the time to put my name forward. That means more than you know! As I approach three years of serving as Chief Nursing Officer at Aurora West Allis Medical Center, I am incredibly grateful to Advocate Health and Aurora Health Care for the opportunity to continue leading, learning, transforming, and serving alongside extraordinary people. Leadership is never accomplished alone. The outcomes we celebrate are made possible by nurses, leaders, physicians, team members, and partners who show up every day committed to our patients and communities. My career has taken me through many communities, challenges, victories, and seasons of becoming. Through it all, nursing has remained one of the greatest honors of my life. I received this award with tremendous gratitude, for those who opened doors, those who walked beside me, those I have had the privilege to lead, and those who entrusted me with the responsibility of leadership. A special thank you to Dennise Lavrenz MBA, RN, CENP for putting genuine kindness "in my briefcase" since the moment we connected! ❤️ What a journey. And I remain grateful for every chapter. ❤️ #NurseExecutiveOfTheYear #NurseLeader #ExecutiveLeadership #Gratitude #LeadershipJourney

Elkaar dus blijven opzoeken. #leiderschap #polarisatie #SERTopvrouwen #luisteren

Drew Smith, MBA liked thisDrew Smith, MBA liked thisMy career in Tech had a very humble beginning. Below is a letter noting the first promotion I ever received in my career. That’s right, making $8.25/hour, or just over $15k a year, represented a big promotion. It was a big leap up from the $7/hr that I was making in my first real job in technology. I had a masters degree, but I took a job working in a call center for an internet startup called AOL doing phone-based tech support. I could say I took the job because I had amazing foresight to predict the explosion of the Internet several years later. But that would be a lie. I took the job because I was desperate to land a position - any position - with a company willing to take a chance on hiring an immigrant on a temporary student work visa. I had sent out over 400 resumes for ‘real’ jobs after receiving my Masters degree, but only AOL would take a shot at hiring me, knowing full well that within a year my visa would lapse and I might be kicked out of the country. That didn’t happen. Instead, I worked my tail off. I took any special project that were offered. I covered other people’s shifts. I did as much overtime as they would give me. I had sone of the best metrics of anyone on the call floor - and there were literally hundreds of us in a giant warehouse in North Jacksonville. So in a few months, I got noticed by management. And I got promoted off the phones and into a desk job focused on building our agent knowledge base (the job in the letter). And I kept grinding. And a few months after that, I got promoted into an IT Project Management job at AOL’s headquarters outside Washington DC. And with that job, I was sponsored for an H1B work Visa, just weeks before my previous Visa would lapse. And that was my start in Tech. Answering tech support phone calls for $7/hr. Now I’m an author, keynote speaker, and a CDO. And in retrospect, I would change absolutely nothing about what I experienced. It’s all helped me to be where I am today, and for that, I’m eternally grateful. #careers #technology #focus

Drew Smith, MBA liked thisDrew Smith, MBA liked thisIt is hard not to write a post about the Callaway/Good Good Golf debacle/disaster(?). The two brands released an ad that portrays a man pushing a woman to the ground and then standing over her threatening her over a golf club. The backlash was swift, voluminous, polarized, and punishing. The apologies are bad. The more interesting part of the debacle was the efforts of groups like women's media brand The GIST and golf community Fore the Ladies, Inc. to rally women on social media to name their favorite women owned golf equipment and apparel company. A slew of small brands got exposure. While big golf brands like PXG (PARSONS XTREME GOLF) and Wilson Sporting Goods Co. responded showing their products well with clever riffs on sharing their drivers, the best response was from Zalea's Golf Co., a small business who is donating 20% of proceeds to a local domestic violence center. Well done Zoe Walker-Faure. NOTE on the Callaway/Good Good Golf disaster....There is a long form article brewing in me on how to attract young new customer to an "old" brand. (The founder of Good Good Golf noted that skit was a riff on the A24, Gen Z movie "Obsession")

Key takeaways include webside manners, raising the tide for rural health care, and the criticality of data platforms. Great conversation about how technology can expand access while strengthening the doctor-patient relationship. Watch the episode here: https://lnkd.in/g-zhs8Qt
