I've installed kali linux on my lenovo g505s. I'm getting a black screen straight after the grub welcome message. I'm unable to use the command line. I've tried pressing the shift key, esc key, ctr+alt+f2, etc but to no avail.

Any help logging into a working desktop would be appreciated.

Thanks.

  • How did you install Kali? What directions did you follow? Commented Feb 24 at 3:04
  • Yes I installed Kali. I followed some directions from dotlinux.net. Because I previously had Windows 7 installed I used an older version of Rufus to create the USB flash drive. I have tried installing Ubuntu before and had the same problem. Commented Feb 24 at 7:24

Kali is specialized tool not intended to be installed or used as a "daily driver" and requiring some knowledge of Linux prior to being able to use well. I recommend you go back to Ubuntu in your Linux efforts, or choose another, friendlier distro. Especially if you're still having the same problem after doing so, update your question to reflect that. Did you try anything in Grub yet? Normally, after Grub you get a little bit of time as the OS loads; it doesn't go immediately from Grub to the Login screen. Commented Feb 24 at 14:23
