Dan Keough shared thisEarlier this week, I had the opportunity to attend the fourth and final session of the Insure Your Future (IYF) Program, hosted at Athene. My youngest son, Mark Keough, is having a rich internship experience at The Mutual Group, which also allowed him to experience the IYF program this summer. This session featured an Innovation segment where BrokerTech Ventures and the Global Insurance Accelerator were also highlighted. We are fortunate to have two of the strongest Insurtech Accelerators located right here in Greater Des Moines (DSM). Congratulations to Michael Gould for creating such an impactful program for young talent to engage in our industry, and to Jim Lewis for all of your support of the Insurtech ecosystem!

This event focused on outreach raising awareness for the amazing non-profit organizations we have in our community. Serving on the WYP board allows me to work alongside passionate professionals and organizations dedicated to strengthening our community. Being able to open our doors and host the event at Holmes Murphy added a personal highlight to a fantastic day of connection and impact. Dan Keough liked thisI actually enjoy the pressure that comes with speaking on live television. There are no re-do’s or second chances. You have to come prepared and be very succinct with your commentary. When I get asked about the skills that matter most for those just starting out, I always say one of the most important skills to have is the ability to communicate effectively. You will be an incredible asset if you can communicate with clients, coworkers, and partners in a meaningful way. Building relationships, engaging with clients, conveying a particular message, and negotiating all come through excellent communication skills. It may not be easy for most and will likely be very uncomfortable to develop, but it will be worth it.

Dan Keough liked thisDan Keough liked thisLast weekend, my daughter, Isabella, and I jumped over the fire and crossed the finish line of the Spartan Race in Palmerton, Pennsylvania. It was my second Spartan. It was her first. I expected another race, but I did NOT expect a course like Palmerton. If you've ever done it, you know it's a different kind of challenge. The climbs were relentless. It rained. No, it poured. The barbed wire crawl went uphill. Every obstacle seemed to ask just a little more than I expected. Somewhere during the race, I realized how much it mirrored this season of our lives. For me, it's been a year of change, reinvention, and learning to embrace opportunities I never imagined. For Isabella, it's the beginning of her next chapter as a college graduate, pursuing her dream of becoming a physician. We're standing at different places in life, but we were climbing the same mountain. Sometimes life gives us a harder course than the one we trained for. We don't get to choose the terrain. We don't get to control the weather. We don't get to move the obstacles. We only get to decide whether we'll keep going. The race was never about the medal or the swag. It was about sharing an experience we'll remember long after the finish line. The first Spartan taught me I could do it. The second one reminded me that while we may be climbing different mountains in life, the people beside us make every step worthwhile. #Leadership #Resilience #Growth #SpartanRace #Family #PersonalGrowth

Please keep in touch.Dan Keough liked thisThis summer, I had the opportunity to participate in the Insure Your Future program while interning with EMC Insurance Companies. It was one of the highlights of my internship and gave me a much deeper understanding of the insurance industry. Throughout the program, I attended leadership sessions where industry executives and professionals shared their insights on topics ranging from innovation and emerging technology to leadership and the future of insurance. Each session provided valuable knowledge and a new perspective on the industry. One of the best parts of the program was connecting with fellow interns from insurance companies across Iowa. It was a great opportunity to build relationships, expand my network, and learn from others with a shared interest in the industry. A big thank you to Michael Gould and everyone involved in organizing Insure Your Future for investing in the next generation of insurance professionals. What an amazing summer it has been!

During their visit, they received a behind-the-scenes tour from our government relations team – including an exclusive visit to the top of the golden dome - and enjoyed lunch with Iowa State Representative Bill Gustoff, who shared valuable insights about government and public policy. Thank you to Representative Gustoff, Sydney Gangestad, Jacob Schrader, and Stephanie Kiel for sharing your time and helping create a memorable experience for our summer associates – Lucy Brooner, Antonio Chavez, Randy Davenport, Maxwell Kretschmar, Colin Payton, Megan Reese, and Melissa Richards.
