Gabi Lewis shared thisExtremely excited to unveil our first major packaging refresh since launch! More clarity, more characters, more consistency, and a lot more blurple. Huge thanks to Fred Hart and team for the amazing work 💜Gabi Lewis shared thisSeven years ago, Magic Spoon was four flavors of cereal and a crazy idea: that maybe grownups deserved fun breakfast, too. Today, we’re cereal. Treats. Granola. Oatmeal. A whole pantry of childhood favorites, rebuilt for healthy grownups. It was time we looked like it. This week, we’re unveiling the first major evolution of the Magic Spoon brand since we launched. Meet the new look of Magic Spoon. We’ve refreshed everything, from our packaging and colors to the way our growing family of products shows up together, creating one cohesive, colorful Magic Spoon world across everything we make. And because a glow-up shouldn’t just be skin deep, we made our cereal even better, too. Now with fiber, plus the high protein, low carb, and 0g sugar you already know us for. It’s the biggest change we’ve ever made to Magic Spoon. And somehow, it feels more like us than ever. 🪄🥣

Gabi Lewis shared thisExcited for this conversation with Elly Truesdell and Gary Hirshberg next week!Gabi Lewis shared thisSo excited for this chat with Gabi Lewis. He’s one of the smartest people in #CPG and has seen it all - from his underage days at Deloitte, stint at Bridgewater Associates, then going on to co-found two companies: EXO Protein and Magic Spoon. I was especially impressed by Gabi when I launched EXO Protein, his and Gregory Sewitz' cricket bar company, in 2014 at Whole Foods Market. A few months later the global Quality Standards team removed them from shelves to undergo a more thorough protein audit, losing a major retail partner and revenue stream. Gabi didn’t miss a beat (never held it against me!) and went on to build EXO Protein out across channels to an exit. He was early in building expertise with influencers and affiliate channels. And the growth at Magic Spoon is a testament to how adept he and his team are at navigating an ever-changing #omnichannel world. Lucky to have Gabi as an advisor to New Fare. And cannot wait for this conversation with none other than Gary Hirshberg, who I could write a whole separate post about! May 30th, 2024 at 4pm ET. Gabi Lewis reacted on thisGabi Lewis reacted on thisMagic Spoon just unveiled a sleek new look. The refreshed packaging features a more cohesive color system, flavor-focused visuals, and unified callouts across its various product lines. Founded as a better-for-you cereal brand in 2019, Magic Spoon is now a functional food platform offering a wide variety of products, including oatmeal, protein bars, granola, and toaster pastries. Gabi Lewis and Greg Sewitz are the co-founders of Magic Spoon. HighPost Capital led an $85M Series B investment in the company in 2022. Other investors include Siddhi Capital, Coefficient Capital, Constellation Capital, and Carter Comstock. Refresh by Fred Hart.

Gabi Lewis reacted on thisGabi Lewis reacted on thisAnd for my next magic trick - a delicious redesign of the entire Magic Spoon portfolio! Ta-da! What started as a cereal renaissance back in 2019 has transformed into a protein portfolio with 5 incredible product lines (and multiple sub-lines) across several different aisles. As Magic Spoon expanded with each new product line, more variables were introduced into the design system, resulting in a fragmented portfolio that lost some of its magic. So we reimagined the portfolio architecture from the ground up, developed a cohesive color system that creates huge impact at shelf, an easy to navigate communication system, brought appetite appeal to the forefront, all while keeping the iconic assets and essence that make Magic Spoon such a beloved brand. The new designs are rolling out now at retailers like Target, and we couldn't be more exited to share the full case study in a months time. As with all things, it takes a village and we had a team of amazing creative partners to thank, in addition to an awesome and trusting client team. So stay tuned for more insights into the work, and grab a spoon. You're bound to get hungry.

Gabi Lewis reacted on thisNothing like adding more magic, to Magic Spoon. Super grateful for the trust and partnership of Gabi Lewis, Gregory Sewitz and the whole MS team as reimagined their entire portfolio design strategy, unifying the brand and creating even more impact at retail. Fundraising often appears chaotic, when it lacks structure and intentionality. Travis Kalanick, understood early on that successful seed rounds are not driven by chance or emotion, they are built as disciplined systems. He broke down seed fundraising down to principles, which remain highly relevant today: 1️⃣ Treat seed fundraising like a sales pipeline, not a passion pitch. Set up structures for meetings, follow ups, referrals, and closes. Keep pitches between 5 to 10 minutes. Clarity and competence beats charisma, and scrappiness builds trust. 2️⃣ Relentlessly prime the investor network. Go to events where investors gather and capital resides. Warm intros beat cold ones. Every meeting should lead to one or two referrals. 3️⃣ Seek to always close by forcing decisions. Ensure every conversation ends with clear next moves. Request for circumstantial commitments which moves the investor from interest to intent. 4️⃣ Pick advisors like co-founders. Advisors should invest. Quality outperforms quantity, and their capital merges motivation and effort. A trusted, steady second brain is critical to navigate the fundraising journey. 5️⃣ Credibilty is critical, and investors dislike dishonesty. Name your strengths and weaknesses. Show you’re thinking into the future. Clarity builds confidence, and wise mitigation beats false assurance. 6️⃣ Urgency wins rounds, as time works against you. Create real urgency through effort and short processes. Keep updates brief and directional. Build momentum intentionally through hustle. 7️⃣ Secure one credible lead investor quickly, as social proof reprices immediately a strong lead commits. Request for terms, and push the conversation from interest to action. Second term sheets creates FOMO. 8️⃣ Maintain control as you push to a close. Deliberately herd investors, as visibility of demand builds confidence. Don’t allow term drift, and hold the line under pressure, until capital hits the bank. Early-stage capital isn’t raised by perfect decks or good storytelling. It’s raised through speed, structure, and disciplined execution. Clarity forces speedy decisions. Urgency and momentum creates conviction and FOMO. Continue selling until capital is in the bank. If you’re raising (or planning to), stop romanticizing it. Design the process. Run it like a system. Close with intentionality. Question for founders: What part of seed fundraising do you think is most underestimated and why?

Why do fundraising teams still rebuild board reports from disconnected pipeline notes? Managers, advisors and boards need a clear view of outreach, meetings, interest, diligence and commitments without relying on manual status collection. A shared record can also prevent different advisors or team members from working with conflicting versions of the same investor status. The Reporting Burden This gives stakeholders a clearer view of progress while reducing the reporting burden on the fundraising team. RAISE connects commitment tracking, activity feeds, shared notes, notifications and reporting around the live mandate. From Activity to Insight The platform is designed to monitor soft and hard commitments and produce investor reporting from the underlying pipeline activity. For Investors The investable idea is not simply faster outreach. It is an intelligence layer built through live execution. RAISE is raising capital and looking for investors. See company website https://raiseplatform.eu and then DM me for more info. Could one live record improve both fundraising execution and board oversight?

Over the past few years, fundraising has become significantly tougher, especially for smaller funds. This, unfortunately, is the case even for VCs delivering solid returns. In my recent Crunchbase piece, I talk about how emerging managers can survive (and even thrive!) in a challenging fundraising environment. I discuss why the process today is more about familiarity than performance, and highlight places where managers should look for capital that others ignore. Check out the full column via link in comments. Curious to hear from other managers who have recently raised successfully. Which part of this rings true?

Monochrome Capital is proud to be investing alongside Slow Ventures, Blitzscaling Ventures, and Jim Messina in Ando - a significant increase in our stake following the initial pre-seed check we wrote to help get the business off the ground in 2024. I’ve spent a significant portion of my career in the "pre-AI" era of logistics digitization - from the early days of Uber to working closely with Paul Wellons at Jyve. While we solved massive problems back then, the frontline workforce was often left behind by the technology meant to manage them. Having seen Paul’s leadership firsthand at Jyve, we knew early on that he was the right person to tackle the 'last broken supply chain': labor. What is Ando? They are building the world’s first AI infrastructure for the global hourly workforce. By using high-accuracy demand forecasting and intelligent staffing tools, they match the right people to the right shifts at the right time - turning a chaotic scheduling process into a precise, stable system. As our industry moves toward an AI-driven future, I am especially focused on what happens to blue-collar and hourly workers. I’ve always believed a "win/win" is possible where optimization for the employer also means better, more predictable lives for the workers. Paul is charting that course responsibly, and I believe Ando will lead to better outcomes for everyone involved than a world without it. Excited to continue our partnership with this additional financing! #FutureOfWork #AI #Logistics #HourlyWorkforce #ResponsibleAI #VentureCapital

If your fundraising round feels slower than it should, there is a common “responsible” move that often makes it worse. Founders sense hesitation and decide to clean things up. They renegotiate SAFEs. They adjust governance. They restructure the cap table. From the founder’s perspective, this reduces risk. From the investor’s perspective, it introduces movement. And investors do not like underwriting moving targets. In the middle of a round, stability matters more than optimisation. I wrote about this in today’s HealthVC. If you are actively raising, this is the phase where sequencing matters more than effort.

Can fundraising teams detect a stalled process before silence becomes the strategy? The forwardable lesson is that long sales cycles need an early-warning layer, not simply more activity at the top of the funnel. The system is designed to recommend action, not merely record that progress slowed. The Long Cycle RAISE combines mandate scoring, allocation signals, trigger detection and pipeline intelligence to surface issues earlier. The Warning Layer The workflow can track investor stage, relationship activity, soft commitments, hard commitments and risks around the target process. The Waiting Problem The company is addressing a process that managers already understand and repeatedly need to solve. RAISE is raising capital and looking for investors. See company website https://raiseplatform.eu and then DM me for more info. Is faster feedback more valuable than faster outreach in institutional fundraising?
