Margaret Molloy shared thisIs doing an MBA worth it? It’s a question I get asked a lot. As with many questions, the answer is: it depends. Today, LinkedIn published its #LinkedInTopMBA. Here’s my story, in case it helps someone making the decision. I was a first-generation college graduate from a wonderful, but not famous, university. I had immigrated to the US and was determined to build my career here. I had a job I loved. I was working hard. I was ambitious. But I was also beginning to understand something. Hard work could take me a long way. But hard work alone wasn’t going to give me everything I needed. I looked around at many of the people I admired in business and noticed they had two things I lacked: Access and exposure. They had access to people, ideas, opportunities, and networks that I simply didn’t have. And they had been exposed to different institutions, industries, leaders, and ways of thinking. I could see the gap. I also knew no one was going to close it for me. If I wanted to accelerate my progress, I needed to put myself in a place that would expand both my world and my sense of what was possible within it. For me, that path was an MBA. I saved, applied, and was accepted to Harvard Business School. The program challenged me. Going to finance classes sometimes felt like traveling to another planet. It also helped me recognize my strengths. Making meaningful contributions in leadership and marketing classes came much more naturally. I found a study group with complementary skills and very different lived experiences, and we figured it out together. I graduated with more than a degree. I left with: - A “bat phone,” a network I can call on for guidance, perspective, and friendship. - The confidence to express my views in boardrooms and on stages around the world. - Training that helps me approach almost any question from a strategic perspective. - A brand association that opened doors and supported the reputation I wanted to build. Was the MBA worth it for me? Absolutely. But I don’t think “Is an MBA worth it?” is the most useful question. The better question is: What access and exposure do you need to get where you want to go? For me, the MBA was the answer. For someone else, it might be a new role, a mentor, an international assignment, a professional community, or simply finding a way into rooms that currently feel out of reach. So before you invest in the degree, identify the gap. What do you need to see? Whom do you need to learn from? What rooms do you need to enter? What possibilities do you need to be exposed to? Then find the path that gives you access. For me, the MBA opened up a world I wanted to be part of and showed me that I could belong there. Margaret Molloy shared thisWhat happens when you invite a gifted storyteller, social researcher, and writer to talk about her work? We laughed. We reflected. We were inspired. This week, I hosted a #WomenwithAmbition evening with Íde B. O'Carroll, PhD to mark the launch of her new book, "Thirty Years of Change Through Women’s Eyes: Ireland, 1993–2023." We honored the lives of #GloriaSteinem and #DollyParton and acknowledged the importance of a “broad church” in feminism and social activism. We discussed how dramatically Ireland changed between 1993 and 2023, from economic transformation and legislation enabling divorce, abortion, and marriage equality to the decline of the Catholic Church’s moral authority. I asked Íde about the role women played in bringing about change in Ireland, and how that social change, in turn, shaped their lives. Our conversation wove individual women’s stories into the broader story of women’s social progress in Ireland. Íde highlighted the importance of education, access to employment, collective support, institutional frameworks, and male allyship. She spoke about the extraordinary impact of women’s groups organizing around issues such as divorce and domestic violence, and the power of resource sharing, training, and mutual support. Íde also brought to life some of the women featured in her book. Mary Banotti’s story took her from single parenthood and cleaning hotel rooms to 20 years in the European Parliament, where she advocated on issues including domestic violence. Her story underscored the power of evidence-based advocacy and male allies such as Garret FitzGerald. And change wasn’t driven only by famous figures. Women in communities such as the Aran Islands organized around fishing rights, reminding us what ordinary women can accomplish through collective action. What I loved most about the evening was the energy of authentic intergenerational sharing. When curiosity and wisdom met, inspiration followed. Thank you to everyone who joined us. The crisp morning air danced with the dreams of the millions of us who called New York home. The chorus of commuters, a cacophony of voices, reveals our place of origin; our hustle demonstrates we belong to our chosen city. Little did we know that our lives were about to change forever. Patrick H. always carries a camera. That day, he recorded what he saw. This documentary is a poignant reminder of why we should #NeverForget. Margaret Molloy shared thisB2B marketing is not a monologue. It’s a chorus. It always has been. A new EMARKETER report by Kelsey Voss sheds fresh light on just how much those outside voices now matter to buyers and to AI systems. A few findings: - Personal profiles on LinkedIn have a 63% higher engagement rate than company pages. - User-generated platforms and review sites supply 62.5% of AI citations. - LinkedIn ad exposure is associated with 46% higher paid search conversions. This is useful since 77% of B2B marketers plan to increase paid social investment over the next 12 months. More spending may or may not help. The bigger question is: Are the right people seeing it and saying useful things about your company? Your brand isn’t shaped solely by what your company publishes. It’s also shaped by what customers, employees, experts, peers, and other credible voices say about you. The chorus has always been there. I’ve happily built a career, a family, and a life in New York. Yet I’m deeply curious about the women of my generation who made another choice and remained in Ireland. That’s why I’m thrilled to interview social researcher Íde B. I shared that Club Tia is hosting a styling suite in collaboration with Ireland Fashion Week, and how rental can work alongside traditional retail as part of a brand's broader strategy. I also came away with some great insights from Aimee Hazeldine on commercial strategy and retail relations, a really valuable perspective to add to the mix. Thank you to Ireland Fashion Week and Siobhan Whelan for having me involved, it was such a lovely day spent with brilliant people. The idea came from a gap I knew well. As a former executive on the leadership team of one of Silicon Valley’s most recognizable companies, I thought I would naturally see opportunities to invest in the next generation of technology companies. That wasn’t how it worked. Outside the occasional angel investment in a company started by a friend or colleague, opportunities to invest were hard won or structured in ways that were too opaque to get comfortable with. Promising companies were raising capital, but those rounds happened inside closed networks I didn’t have the time to uncover. The vast majority of my friends and colleagues were in the same position. When I met Guy Oseary of Sound Ventures in 2025, I learned that the problem extended well beyond my own circles. At the intersection of Hollywood and Silicon Valley, Guy heard the same question from household names again and again: how did he hear about these companies, and how did he get the opportunity to invest? Physicians don’t simply retrieve information. They understand context, weigh uncertainty, exercise judgment, communicate risk, and take responsibility for the care they provide. The future shouldn’t be AI versus physicians. It should be physicians and patients using AI responsibly to make care better.
