Sam Slover shared thisSuper excited to announce that Pinto is joining forces with SPINS, as we continue on our mission to build the product data platform that’s powering #personalization, #transparency, and more optimized product choices for today’s consumers. Since day one, we’ve been deeply passionate about helping consumers find the right products for their health and lifestyle needs (and being a partner to retailers and brands in solving that fundamental mission). I’m beyond thrilled to team up with Tony O. and the SPINS team who are kindred spirits in the space. Pinto started after I spent a few months tracking and manually recording the data on everything I purchased from a grocery store (yes, I really did that! 😂), and realizing that much of the data/information I was looking for was not readily accessible or structured in a way that could be personalized to different consumer use cases (the onus was left on the consumer to do most of the work). Fast forward, and we’re now solving this at scale across CPG and grocery. Big shout out to the entire Pinto team, investors/advisors, retail/brand partners, friends in the space, thought partners, NYU ITP, and everyone else who has helped Pinto on this mission. Onwards and upwards! 🚀🍓📊SPINS Acquires Product Intelligence Innovator Pinto; Doubles-Down as Product Intelligence is Set to Transform Innovation, Merchandising, and Consumer ExperiencesSPINS Acquires Product Intelligence Innovator Pinto; Doubles-Down as Product Intelligence is Set to Transform Innovation, Merchandising, and Consumer Experiences

Sam Slover reacted on thisSam Slover reacted on thisI know I'm a broken record, but Dorm Room Fund is magic because of our people. The The New York Times journalist Erin Griffith got it bang-on today: we stand on the shoulders of giants. And it's true again-- thanks to the DRF community, we've raised a ✨ very-over-subscribed new $50M fund✨, and 💜launched a new brand 💜, so we can keep backing the best student and recent grad/drop-out founders. As our people thrive, so does DRF-- 14 years in, we're lucky to count incredible founders, investors, and LPs in our DRF alumni ranks. 30% of our investors in Fund 2 are DRF alumni and their funds. And it's very on-brand that our most successful investment has been into one of our own-- Michael Truell at Cursor. Today we get an excuse to celebrate all of the amazing people that have made our success to-date possible, folks like Claire Smilow and Aryan Shah who joined as student investors and became investors in our funds. Folks like Josh Kopelman and Phin Barnes who dreamed up DRF in the first place and let us fly when it was time to go independent. Folks like Rei Wang, CeCe Cheng, and Chauncey Kerr Hamilton who shepherded us through our first iterations. Folks like Toni Oloko and Will M. and Kashish Gupta who let us invest in their companies. And people like Bill Trenchard, Ann Miura-Ko, Iris Choi, Hayley Bay Barna, Shane McAndrew, CFA, Lewis Hower, Ekwutozia Nwabuzor, Doug Bernstein, and Ben Cmejla who have helped hold the rudder at moments when things were not going quite so smoothly. Most of all, DRF works because the humans on our team care so very deeply-- so the biggest thank you to Madison Jacox, Conor Harbeck, the DRF student managing partners, and our student investors for making this magic machine so much fun to work on, every darn day. To the DRF Community: let's take a very brief, and very well earned victory lap today! And if you haven't applied to join the student investing team before Thursday's deadline, take this as your sign! #DRF4Life 💜 Article here: https://lnkd.in/gXiPKi5uCollege Students Flex Their Power in A.I. Sam Slover reacted on thisSam Slover reacted on thisAfter ten years at Acre Venture Partners, I'm stepping back. I loved working at Acre, and with founders who are changing global systems that are critical to humanity and the planet. Thank you to Lucas, Gareth, Sam, Maisie, Bill, Dave, Lynda, Jeff, Melissa, Wilson, and Kate for a decade of trust and partnership. Thank you to the founders who chose to partner with us and showed me what perseverance and commitment to a vision look like. And thank you to the LPs, co-investors, and industry partners who made the last ten years so rewarding. Acre was one of the first dedicated funds in food and agriculture, and it is in great hands. I'm rooting for the team and the portfolio. My conviction in the need for innovation in our food system is as strong as ever. More on what's next soon. In the meantime, I'll stay on as a venture partner. Please reach out to catch up or if I can be helpful.

New Fare Partners’ latest investment: we’ve led Farm To People's first institutional funding round, a $5M financing to support its next chapter of growth. 📣👩🌾 Farm To People is a Brooklyn-based online farmers market connecting consumers directly with local farms and food producers - and after 13 years of disciplined, bootstrapped growth, the business has hit an exciting inflection point with some impressive stats attached: → 90% YoY growth → 4x revenue growth over the past two years → 13,000+ monthly customers across NY, CT & NJ → 200+ farm and food partners within 300 miles of NYC → < 1% food waste → Returns roughly 50 cents of every retail dollar to its producers What Michael Robinov and Anina von Haeften have built sits at an intersection we care about and believe in deeply: better food meeting modern convenience. Consumers increasingly want to know where their food comes from, eat seasonally and support better food systems - but they also expect flexibility, technology and doorstep delivery. Farm To People has spent more than a decade figuring out how to deliver both. We were also fortunate to bring together an incredible group for this round, including Fred Wilson, Gary Hirshberg, Todd Lachman, Walter Robb, the Williamson family behind Forager Project, and David Barber. I’ve known Michael and watched this company evolve for nearly 13 years. It makes this one especially meaningful - and we couldn’t be more excited about what comes next. Congratulations to Michael, Anina and the entire Farm To People team. Read more about it on my Substack, linked in comments. And their The New York Times feature! Sam Slover reacted on thisSam Slover reacted on thisAfter 13+ years of bootstrapping, I'm excited to announce Farm To People's first outside investment, $5 million led by Elly Truesdell and Hallie Bonnar of New Fare Partners alongside a list of founders and operators I've admired for a long time, listed below. Read more in yesterday's The New York Times, linked in the comments. Farm to People was never meant to be a different grocery delivery company. It's infrastructure for a food system where a small farm can actually make a living. The Times put it as our ambition, and they're right: a new economy for small farms to succeed. That's what happens when the quality of the farmers market meets the ease of modern e-commerce. From my parents' studio apartment on the Upper West Side to a new 40,000 square foot warehouse coming soon in The Bronx, it's been a helluva ride. Thank you David Robinov for being a pioneer in the natural foods movement since before I was born and for making this all possible. And Anina von Haeften for your partnership and vision every day! To every customer, farmer, maker, driver, packer, buyer, and team member who got us here: thank you. And we're just getting started. If you want to build this with us, we're hiring. It's hard work. If you're ready to make an impact, reach out. Here's the incredible list of investors who share our vision of the future and inspire us: Gary Hirshberg (and Ethan, Alex, Danielle) founder of Stonyfield; Walter Robb former co-CEO of Whole Foods; David Barber of Blue Hill At Stone Barns; Fred Wilson (and Joanne & Josh) founder of Union Square Ventures; Martin Dolfi, Bill Schultz and Whitney Williams from Beliade Consumer Partners; Jean-Francois Jeff Déchant (and Felix Dechant, our COO, who makes FtP run every day); Jeff Sterrett & Jamie Sterrett; Stephen Williamson, John Charles Hanley & Daisy Bowes Williamson; Todd Lachman; Tom Gellert & Andrew Gellert; Sam Slover; Jeff Samberg; Gabi Lewis; and more. Thank you Jacqueline S. for sharing our story with the world.

Sam Slover reacted on thisBig news for Salsify today: Cinven has agreed to acquire us! I couldn't be more excited. I first met the Cinven team (Danny Garin and John Cuyulis in particular!) most of a year ago and have gotten to know them well. They are great cultural fits to the team and company we've worked so hard to build over the last 14 years and are wonderful spiritual successors to the great board that's lead us this far. Thanks to all the people who got us here. First: to all current former employees. We've been listed as a "great place to work" in just so many lists over the years, and without great people to build great product and work with great customers, none of this would have been possible. "Teamwork makes the dream work" as they say. Thanks also to David Skok and Michael Skok for investing time in us even before they invested money, and for supporting us the entire journey! To Tricia for always taking my "peak stress" calls; invaluable to me. And to the rest of our existing board which has supported us through both good and challenging times, with more generosity than we could have expected: Mike, John, Bill, James, Mike, Vishnu, Arun, John, Alison. I'd work with any of you again without hesitation. A lot more yet to build. Onwards and upwards!Sam Slover reacted on thisToday, we announced that Cinven, a leading international private equity firm, has agreed to acquire Salsify. For 14 years, our mission has been the same: Help brands manage and share accurate, up-to-date product content with the retailers who sell it. Today that means supporting more than 2,000 brands, syndicating more than 750 million products across over 2,600 commerce destinations for more than 70,000 users worldwide. We're excited because of the depth of specific experience Cinven brings to the table. They have deep experience backing software and consumer brands through their next stage of growth, a strong North American track record, and a European team that knows the CPG and retail landscape our customers operate in exceptionally well. That's exactly the kind of partner that helps us invest faster in the platform our customers depend on. This investment is about accelerating what's already working, including how we help brands stay accurate and visible as commerce becomes more automated and agentic. We’re excited about this next chapter — one where we accelerate into new geographies and customer segments, invest further in product innovation, and unlock even more value for the customers we serve. We'd like to thank Danny Garin, John Cuyulis, Maxim Crewe, and Carol Yu at Cinven - we are looking forward to this next phase with you! The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the coming weeks. Sam Slover liked thisSam Slover liked this🛒 📣 While we lean hard into consumer food, we also invest in transformational technologies impacting grocery / food / bev. We've been lucky to be part of the incredible build at Augmodo since early 2024, seeing their tech and approach as incredibly high potential. Their founder Ross Finman does a great job distilling what their tech and leverage of AI can do. Picking up a cereal box in a grocery aisle is the same technology as picking up a wrench on a factory floor. Both require a computer to understand a person, a hand, an object, and the physical space in real time. Augmodo captures this perspective seamlessly and what we saw as former operators is how effective this would be using hardware and tech that's frictionless for the operational needs of retailers. We are so proud to be early and ongoing supporters of Augmodo as they become a leader in egocentric data, AI that sees the world through the user's eyes. Congrats to Ross Finman and the team for closing their latest round! – led by TQ Ventures - at a $350M valuation. We’re thrilled to invest for a third time in this business as they continue to tackle some of the biggest problems in retail. Been a while since I posted here. Sat down with the Seed Club team to talk about what we're building at my new venture, Ultramarkets, why prediction markets break traditional perps models, and why conviction should matter more than capital. A few things we covered: - Why binary markets need a fundamentally different approach to leverage - Why real trades on Polymarket beat synthetic exposure every time - How human attention on world events becomes a yield source for LPs - The infrastructure vision: leverage as a layer, not a product If you've been watching prediction markets grow and wondering what the financial infrastructure looks like on top of them, this one's worth 28 minutes. https://lnkd.in/e_fFP4hz

TechCrunch covered the trend. Let’s talk about the truth behind it. A few hard truths from actually being in the trenches of this “venture zombie” work: 1. The work isn’t diligence, it’s reconstruction: - Early-stage VCs optimize for potential. - Hold-forever investors have to optimize for reality: broken systems, misaligned teams, faulty pricing, shaky GTM, and unfocused products. 2. You have to rewire founder psychology, not just cap tables: - Most “zombies” aren’t dying from lack of opportunity, they’re dying from the residue of venture conditioning: chase TAM, ignore margins, hire ahead of PMF, optimize for the next round. - Evergreen acquisition requires un-teaching bad habits and re-anchoring operators to fundamentals: cashflow, unit economics, customer retention, and repeatability. 3. The arbitrage isn’t cheap price, it’s time preference: - VCs need velocity and outliers. - Evergreen buyers need durability and cash yield - That mismatched time horizon is where the real value surfaces. You’re not betting on a future markup, you’re betting on transforming a company into a compounding asset. 4. Most people underestimate the operational drag: - Turning these companies around means stepping into the weeds: rebuilding finance, revamping GTM, fixing data infrastructure, restructuring teams, restarting product discipline. The “ton of work” is literal. 5. The winners will be operator-centric, not capital-centric: - The capital structure matters. But the real moat is the operator bench behind it. Funds that treat these acquisitions like PE-lite won’t survive. The ones that bring real hands-on turnaround muscle will. This shift isn’t about buying zombies, it’s about accurately assessing how much value gets trapped in early-stage companies that were built for a venture world that no longer exists. https://lnkd.in/gpSjtUaJ

As a pre-seed/seed investor, what should I do with this whole "triple, triple, double, double is dead. Just do 0 to $100M ARR in N months deals" trope being told everywhere? We have limited data to work with at seed. And it's not that I am managing a $B growth fund that can schmooze into late-stage rounds of these point-in-time outliers. Besides serving the LP fundraising narratives of large, cross-over franchises, what use is this podcast/X hockey-stick flex for early-stage investors?

USVC, our public venture fund, is up 10%+ in the last few weeks We also completed our first tender offer a few weeks ago, buying back everyone who wanted out Here's a quick FAQ for people wondering exactly how all of this works before the upcoming Anthropic IPO: -- USVC is a public tender-offer fundwith exposure to some of the top private technology companies Anyone in the US can invest in USVC with as little as $500 and get exposure to companies like Anthropic, OpenAI, Mercury, Supabase, Mercor etc. (Portfolio: https://usvc.com/portfolio) -- When you invest in USVC, you receive shares at the current NAV (net asset value) price This NAV is marked to market daily as companies in the portfolio have updates Right now, SpaceX is a public position (that we bought when they were private) and SPCX moves our NAV If we do a good job of investing & the startups gain value, the NAV of the fund moves up Every quarter, we aim to make 5% of the overall fund available for investors to "tender out" aka get their shares bought back We successfully completed the first tender a few weeks ago -- Our strategy at USVC: 1 - We aim to back some of the best early stage managers investing in new companies being created today We believe the most successful startups are yet to be built 2 - We get exposure to some late stage technology companies (frequently, at a discount) -- We charge a management fee of 1% and no carried interest If you include all fees, including underlying fund management fees, the fund's net expense ratio is capped at 2.5% annually The gross ratio is higher, but expense limitation agreements are in place above 2.5% -- Do you have any questions I can answer? Happy to have an open dialogue about all things USVC And as always, you can read our prospectus and disclosures here: https:// usvc.com/docs before investing

Monochrome Capital is proud to be investing alongside Slow Ventures, Blitzscaling Ventures, and Jim Messina in Ando - a significant increase in our stake following the initial pre-seed check we wrote to help get the business off the ground in 2024. I’ve spent a significant portion of my career in the "pre-AI" era of logistics digitization - from the early days of Uber to working closely with Paul Wellons at Jyve. While we solved massive problems back then, the frontline workforce was often left behind by the technology meant to manage them. Having seen Paul’s leadership firsthand at Jyve, we knew early on that he was the right person to tackle the 'last broken supply chain': labor. What is Ando? They are building the world’s first AI infrastructure for the global hourly workforce. By using high-accuracy demand forecasting and intelligent staffing tools, they match the right people to the right shifts at the right time - turning a chaotic scheduling process into a precise, stable system. As our industry moves toward an AI-driven future, I am especially focused on what happens to blue-collar and hourly workers. I’ve always believed a "win/win" is possible where optimization for the employer also means better, more predictable lives for the workers. Paul is charting that course responsibly, and I believe Ando will lead to better outcomes for everyone involved than a world without it. Excited to continue our partnership with this additional financing! #FutureOfWork #AI #Logistics #HourlyWorkforce #ResponsibleAI #VentureCapital
